The name Stresemann for these Pelikan pens originally is not referring to the color of the pen, but only to the stripes. So all striped Pelikan pens irrespective of the color are in fact called Stresemann's. The first striped pen that was called Stresemann by the general public (not by Pelikan) from 1950 in fact was green (model 400, later also in brown). Of course Herr Stresemann only wore the grey striped trousers of his official Cutaway, and combined this with a more easy going jacket so that he did not have to change his cloth between the private office and the official moments. To honor the man (he is also a Nobel peace prize winner) , the suit and the public association of the striped pens with this name, Pelikan officially called some models also Stresemann themselves. These are all in grey, the M405, 805 and 1005, and all are in silver trimm.

Good golly, Stephen. I really do like the classy (and classic) look of this pen. A tortoiseshell finish would be even better. I dearly love my M800 Renaissance Brown model and would love to have an M1000 tortoise finish, but I really can't justify another expensive pen. I can still drool while you review them though! So, THANKS for that at least! ps: put my vote in for a return of your Greek(?) orthodox chant intro! It is missed.

I really like the looks of the Stresemann, both the choice of material, the body finish and the nib finish. Despite it being a heavy investment even for the 400-model, I might eventually get one.

Ahhh Pelikan m1000 is indeed a great pen. I have black with gold trim, and it's wonderful (broad nib too!). I dont know why, and it'a totally personal, but I prefer Pelikan more than MB 149....it's too much of a "look at me I'm expensive", which for me is a maaasive distraction. The M1000 nibs are completely brilliant, a slight bounce, which is a joy to write with. Also, its practical to clean (carefully!). Thank you for your very insightful review 👏

I have the M 1000 in the green striped version with an 18K/750 two tone nib in M. I would describe the nib as very to super flexible and I also use the fountain pen like a flex nib. Not only does it make for a beautiful typeface, but it's really fun to write with. I am surprised and amazed at the same time, because there is such a noble nib with the flex of the historic gold nibs of the 40/50s in modern writing instruments are almost never offered. I was able to get this fountain pen cheap and it should actually end up as a collector's item in the showcase but the handling despite its optical size and this nib have made this Pelikan my desk fountain pen because it's just fun to use it.
@andrewtongue70845 жыл бұрын
Of course, this is a subjective matter - in terms of finish - personally, I like the Stresemann stripes - I own the M805 version, as well as a black M1000 ( a model I would dearly like to see in the red/black stripe). The silvered accents have always been appealing, vis-a-vis the gold finish. Certainly, I've seen this model for less than the stated 625.00 euros (this is in the UK - I'd never purchase this pen from the States, primarily because they over-inflate all their Pelikan models in terms of price). As to buying this pen (now), not sure that I would, in spite of the aforementioned appeal to same, & with the advent of Great Britain exiting Europe, I am waiting to see what the exchange rates will be in that respect. As a man with large hands, this is an ideal pen size to use, & similarly, I am a Pelikan devotee - in both vintage & modern versions, tho' the earlier models are the primary attraction for me. Superlative overview, Stephen - Thank you as always, cher college !! :D

Thumbs up!

Having been somewhat fortunate to grab up a M250 after some adjustments it writes well enough. The Pelikan pens want a soft touch and only permit so much flourish before skipping. See In your video some of the same handling issues I’ve been experiencing. The nib does occasional snap even when not much pressure is applied. Definitely like the 1005 though doubt I’d spring for that before seeking something with actual flex abilities. Enjoy your videos and have picked up a few things...that serenity blue is fantastic!

I have the M805 Stresemann and the M1000 green stripe models, both with problematic fine nibs. I think the M1000 looks much classier in grey, and I prefer the size of it compared to the M805. Call me weird, but I don't like the oversize nib and wish it had a #6 instead. The excessive softness makes me uneasy and I prefer the more firm feel of the smaller nib. I don't think the price is out of line if you can get it without the VAT, and I ordered my M1000 on Fountain Pen Day for €390. I agree about the needed color variations with the M1000.

Of all fountain pens I own or tried, the Pelikans never failed or let me down. From their vintage 140s to the 1980s Silvexa to the M200/400/600/1000. They are 100% reliable, the nibs are perfect and (sorry to say) compared to Montblanc they are much better quality (all my MB's went to repair and MB is charging A LOT for repair!!). If I could have only one fountain pen for the rest of my life, it would be a Pelikan M600 or M800 (or a TWSBI Swipe with a 1,1 stub nib if the budget is a matter).

Thanks in advance for answering this burning question. \ Mike
@sbrebrown4 жыл бұрын
I don't see why it wouldn't be legal :-). I haven't had issues with the ink: there is an orange component to it, so you can, depending on how well the cap closes, a bit of nib crud on the nib and feed, but that's harmless and it washes off easily

@penarbor5 жыл бұрын
@@herrkeks8509 I heard about the new delay. I pre-ordered it way back in February when vendors started accepting pre-orders (I got a F, Pelikan M is way to broad for me). Considering Pelikan's track record, I was not expecting such delays but alas. I am waiting for it with bated breath and it is really difficult when other manufacturers are also releasing some nice new pens. The only thing that's helping me hold my breath is that unique nib, the writing experience is awesome.

Pen Arbor I’ll also get the F nib for the M1005, but I might get one from the 800 series in between. I’m looking towards a B nib. I write in a single row of 5 mm grids and I’m wondering if this would still be possible with a B nib. I don’t have any issues doing that with my M nibs (Faber-Caste Grip 2011, Kaweco Supra) and since there is still some room left, I hope a B nib will still be fine. Thanks for the review. I have to say I haven't been impressed with Pelikan fountain pens and this one doesn't do anything for me either. Perhaps it's because I'm used to my Sailor pens and I'm expecting a quality that is different than that of a Pelikan pen. I found their nibs to be faulty at times. Sometimes over polished, like you said. And some mediums that I have tried just won't go as smooth when moving the nib from one direction to another. And at that price range I believe my money is better spent buying pens that are better in quality. Especially having a better nib. What is your opinion about this?
@WouterZtube5 жыл бұрын
ExiledExia I've got four sailors. None wrote great out of the box. All had some issues and needed smoothing. I've got a whole flock of Pelikans and none ever had issues. I restored 5 vintage Pelikans, some over 70 years old, and they still perform beautifully. If that isn't quality, then what is?
@ExiledExia5 жыл бұрын
WouterZtube very strange. I have never had problems with my Sailors. I have tried a few Pelikans and a friend of mine owns a m800. He has the same issues I have. Really strange that you have problems with your Sailors. Which versions do you have if I might ask?
