My luthier said that the scala perfecta is like a Chinese cello varnished in Cremona, he said it is better to save for a master instrument from Edgar.

Having worked with many luthiers, I will use a premium Chinese bransd as an example : to my latest knowledge, all "Jay Haide" cellos arrive in El Cerrito pre-varnished, with fingerboards set. Not to say that Guangzhou cellos are not quality - they are! - but the top of the line Jay Haide cello does not compare to any Scala Parfetta. I have sold and played both - Edgar's cellos play like Italian cellos, Haide cellos play like Chinese cellos, not even a Ming. To my best knowledge, Jay Haide cellos do not come from Guangzhou "in the white", neither are those cellos from an artisan European workshop. Leohart and Russ both use the same German supplier, where they fit the fingerboard and varnish them in house, yet a Leohart plays like a German cello, Scala Parfetta plays like an Italian cello. One day in the future, I will attend Musc China conference in Shanghai (the largest one in the world, larger than musikmesse) and reveal some "industry secrets" that will support all the aforementioned.
