I've seen the computer recommend that h3+g4 idea a lot against the Scandi when they try to pin the knight and I never understood why it was so strong. But seeing Danya absolutely obliterate the game 3 opponent with it makes it clear why the computer recommends it. Just beautiful to see it in action by an actual human.

Mostly cause the scandi by principle is not very healthy, white needs to play as energetically as possible to "punish" Qxd5-Qa5 losing a tempo
@lingtao969
@lingtao969 6 ай бұрын
It's one of those openings where white can only get an advantage by breaking typical opening principles; e.g. many thematic ideas include a quick Ne5 and the h3-g4 stuff as you mentioned
@E8oL4
@E8oL4 6 ай бұрын
@@lingtao969 Yeah, sielecki recommends to do exactly that in his e4 course. But I still struggle to find those ideas in games (or their follow-up). Mainly because I think I tend to avoid these ambitious moves in favor of stable, positional play :l I don't like facing the scandi tbh

1. e4 e5 "Okay, so he goes e5. Now a lot of people here would just lazily develop the knight to f3, but we actually have a move here that poses a lot of practical problems for black and is borderline winning for white. The move is Ke2, and do not worry I will explain this more thoroughly after the game. Now you might look at this position and say, "isn't this weakening our king and blocking in our pieces?" And while that may be true, you guys need to start thinking long term. In the endgame, it will be a huge advantage to have our king activated in the center. Furthermore, black has no threats here. he is not going to checkmate us any time soon, the king is perfectly well defended on e2. Now he does have a nasty little defensive resource he can try here, let's see if he finds it. Wow, Ke7 he finds it. Now guys, I don't wanna hear any baseless accusations, we will check with an engine after the game. It's not unthinkable that a 1500 finds this move and no, black has not equalized, we just need to play clinically to secure.

video suggestion: Not crushing the Andrew Hong opening with neither black or white and why I have (not) changed my opinion about talent. my 2 cents: if chess wasnt about opening and pattern memorisation mostly, you'd have crushed brandon. but since you were new to the (inferior) opening, you were still at a slight disadvantage because you couldnt do what you do best: put in the work and be prepared. another take would be: this early in the game, even an engine might get it wrong. but i highly doubt it.

Danya is so respectful to opponents who are clearly cheating, like the guy in game 2. That’s one of the strongest 1,000 ELO players I’ve ever seen. I know he crumbled at the end, but a true 1,000 would’ve never kept it that close for that long. What people often forget is that most cheaters don’t play the top move every time. They throw in engine moves at key moments.
