At the end of the 1800s, the Danish King, Christian IX and his wife, Queen Louise, married their six children into the dominating European royal families and Christian IX became known as "Europe's Father-In-Law". Today, his descendants are to be found all over Europe.
These are their stories, stories of power, love, triumph, tragedy and honour, recounted through interviews and never before published letters, photographs and home movie footage, by over 30 members of the European royal family.
Anecdotes handed down through generations give insight into a Europe ruled by 'dynasty politics' where arranged marriages created alliances between countries.
Episode 5 - Shaky Thrones
Christian IX's 17 year-old son, Wilhelm, is proclaimed King of Greece and soon after anointed as George I. He marries the 16 year-old Grand Duchess Olga of Russia and their descendants end up sitting on the thrones of Greece, Romania, Yugoslavia and Spain.

Mana Phamonmareerut Quite likely an Empath, you also are most certainly highly Empathetic. Be aware of your heightened ability to Feel others truths and realities, don't assume everyone has this skill, and be responsible for protecting yourself from those whom enjoy using your good/positive energies - by manipulating and sadistically abusing you for the desired to "drink the energies of your stress and suffering", aka as Vamps. I have always admired King Konstantin and Queen Anne Marie , both lovely people , I remember when they became engaged , I lived in Copenhagen, it was quiet a sensation and a surprise to the Danish people at the time since Princess Anna Marie was only 16 years old but one could tell they were very happy together. It is clear that they are still very happy and this was a good match. I love seeing pictures and video's of them and the entire Danish Royal family, I love the charming and warm tone of this video.

God, the Greek people can't really make up their minds for the first half of the 20th century, can they? I can't imagine the pressure the royal family must have been under for generations being booted out and taken back in suddenly. You could never really feel secure like that. Marie was a hoot, I've always liked her. Prince Michael of Greece tells the funniest stories. Constantine and Anne-Marie looked gorgeous when they were younger, and she's still so regal now. Greece would probably be better off with them in charge nowadays, but it's probably too late.

Too late for Greece as they are in the determined stranglehold of the European Union - the EU that in talks with us in 1972 (UK) said we should join to stop wars breaking out in the EU + Quite funny we have escaped from the (after paying 40 billion to leave the club - whoever heard of paying to leave a Club) EU but it's still squabling and starting wars dragging others into it aka Ukraine.. We were dragged into wars before as when the Germans invaded Poland. We've not long since paid back reparations. I hope they don't do. Second referendum as there re moves afoot to doctor the figures as they did she. Ireland said no go EU & they forced another vote doctoring the outcome. We have so many migrants that want to stay in Europe the figures won't need doctoring ..... Peace out ☮️ SW England 🇬🇧

The moment I saw the Romanian Royals (King Michael, Queen Anne and the current Queen Margarita) I teared... These people are uncommonly special, fully devoted to their country and nation... So was Queen-mother Helen as well... Romania needs something new, that could make it stronger and that could guarantee better education and prosperity amongst the Romanian people... Romanians are in large number willing to restore the monarchy, but it is very hard since many of them haven’t understood yet how important it was for my country and how important it could be again.. The lies they’ve been told during communism are now very visible, since many still refuse to believe that King Michael was the poorest in the exile amongst all the other exiled kings and queens in Europe... The communists framed his abdication and partition from Romania. They embarked him and his mother on a very long train who was supposed to have carried all their riches... a very fake widespread lie. But I am hopefully and optimistically looking forward in the future that Romania will once again embrace the idea of being a kingdom. Long live Her Majesty, Queen Margarita of Romania! 🇷🇴

I love King Constatine II! Extremely handsome. I feel bad for he and his wife losing everything. I know how that feels. I had no idea what a fickle country Greece was. It seems that they were never content with the person THEY elected to rule, They needed a country of ''bigger power'' to keep their silly asses in line. What a MESS!!!!

the Greeks never elected a monarch! they were given Otto of Bavaria at first, kicked him out when he refused to give a democratic constitution and then the great powers of the time imposed a 17 year old danish prince as the King of Greece

Well as a Dane, who watched the English Royals and all their scandals, snobbery. I actually get why some are feed up with it. In other hand, I have a hard to find any negative about our Danish Royals. I do see some balance, they are opened minded and outspoken. I dont envy them, even Frederik the crown prince had a hard time accepting his fate and I get it. They do have a fine role as a rolemodel and they do a great job. The critical part are the media and magasins, they are heavy in making into a snob club. BS everything on what is happening in the Royals. That is the pathetic part. Am I a Royalist? Dont know, got nothing against the Danish Royals, on a objectiv stand, is it better to have none? Without any role models? Tricky question and have no answers. Especially when they do such a good job in this open outspoken way. One thing though a true Democracy have a horisontal pride organisation form, not vertical dog pack. Which today seems becomming more centralized and more vertical for each year. With out the Royals influence. When they comes down to earth as they do, kinda give the impression of that flat horisontal organisation form. The symbol of the Lions pride. Would rather have our Royals than a General dictator.

The royals should not be role models for anyone, that's not why they exist - they are representatives of their country.

There are no such people as 'English royals'. England is not a sovereign country. They are the BRITISH royal family and despite your curious comments about 'scandals and snobbery' they are much respected and admired as revealed at the death of Queen Elizabeth and the accession of King Charles. Interesting that you have this idea of the greater openness of the Danish monarchy as against the British. Try being a researcher or academic and try and get access to royal archives in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. They are largely closed whereas the royal archives at Windsor and the vast range of the royal collections are much more available and transparent in their dealings. Britain remains in every sense the worlds premier monarchy.
