I think that’s my biggest problem with the game. I don’t mind having lots and lots of different materials needed for things. That’s rather interesting. But I wish we got the materials while we were doing other stuff, you know, as rewards for playing the game. But instead, getting materials is the stuff we do, so there’s no reward at all. Just mindless repetition of miserable tasks.

Thanks for the update: have you tried it in silent running? Apparently if you have a ship that can stay silent while the hacking limpet does its thing you don't get bothered by the cops ..

Way late but I just confirmed today that Silent Running works. Just turn on Silent when you fire the Recon limpet and don't disable Silent until the hack timer is done. I was making a similar guide to this one for my player group so I added that ... nothing else significantly different from D2EA's video here (I link to it in fact) but near the beginning I show the Silent Running bit and I added links to other scannable ships in the description. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZeydmV7ibKkmLM

Worked ... mostly. Any idea why they attacked? Anarchy system? Check (BD-17 5832). Research ship? Check (Bowman-class Researcher). Hack succesful? Check. Instant aggro from all the ships near the station? Check. My little DBX proved it's ability to run FAST (I don't even carry weapons on it).

So I'm here doing the research about Megaships, so thank you for the video. My mission was to “Infiltrate the megaship data link” a "Threat Level 0" mission. But as I got closer to the uplink, I came under fire from the other ships in the area. My shields only lasted a few seconds so I boosted out of the area but was already down to 45% hull. They did not follow. Once my shields recovered I tried again but was quickly attacked again as I got closer. Your video suggests scanning Megaships should only be done in Anarchy systems. So it is possible my mistake was to scan another part of the ship ( a gun turret ) while looking for the Uplink. I'm in a high security system. So starting to make sense now. I'll update this if I work out what I did wrong.

Ship has moved to HIP 21918 now on 5th plant/moon from the left. You get a bounty now as it’s not an anarchy system.

He never did show how to find megaships in anarchy systems. I can find lots of megaships in eddb, but none of them are in anarchy systems. Would have been nice to try this, but can't.

He did kind of mention how to do this at about 5:30 but you don't need eddb. After scanning the ship to get it's flight plan you just check your galaxy map to find out whether any of them are anarchy (have to set the filter for anarchy systems). Then you just have to wait for the megaship to move to one of those systems (not all of them move of course). They move every few weeks. If you Google "Canonn Research Group megaships" you should find a list of a whole load of megaships - hopefully that'll be helpful.

@D2EA - Do the surrounding ships give any data when scanned? And do they give any materials when destroyed? In other words, is it worth getting involved in the fighting going on around the science vessel, scanning all theses ships as well as scanning the science vessel each time we board-hop?

You can. They should give data when scanned and drop materials when killed. However i'm not sure for effective it would be. But since we are in a anarchy system i don't see anything that should prevent you from doing that.

what is weird is that after i hack it with the recon limpet i dont immediatly get the data like you. instead the data breaks of and floats like normal material and i have to manually pick it up with the cargo scoop. i dont get nearly enough data either

Hi. I just tried this method with a mega ship in an Anarchy system. This method you describe does not work as of today...5th December 2019. I think you should re try your method, since its now impossible to achieve, due to the system police attacking you as soon as you deploy the recon limpet!! I was using my unarmed explorer Asp and lost the ship! Now we need another method!

it works in December 2019. You'll get a bounty but you have several seconds to scan the ship, scan the data port and attach a limpet to it before the system authorities show up. log off before they start shooting, repeat process

Will you get detected if you run cold?

@@erbalumkan369 if your ship runs cold enough you won't get detected. Also if you're far enough from the attached limpet, I can't remember how far your beer to be, you also won't get detected. The DBX with clean drives is perfect for that. But I would much rather have the largest recon limpet controller (5A+) available in larger ships to speed up the process, and just get the bounties. By the time you get the bounty, you already got the data and you have 20+ seconds to log off and log back in to repeat the process before authority vessels even get close to you.

I really wish FDEV would nerf this friggin grind crap - it would be much more fun if you had more unique materials spread out where you travel for them and some better exploration game play then this davs hope, scan this, collect that logout, log in b.s. - it really ruins all the hard work they have done in other area's of the game - the game could be improved a massive amount by just eliminating this stupid grind stuff.

Is exploitation cheating? This depends on how you look at gaming. For old era nerds, this is cheating ; and we dont do that. We wont enjoy ourselves or the game if we do that because we dont play the game for WINNING, ACCOMPLISHING NO MATTER WHAT.. This is simply a respawn bug. For new era nerds, this is very normal to do it..exit game/enter game 378 times and spend 12 hours in their chair with the same expression on their face, expoliting a respawn bug and ENJOYING IT. The new generation has the ethical values no better than a jellyfish.
