That was hilarious to see the Orion in the middle of 6 enemy mechs in the first game and not being a priority, lol. I guess the Orion isn't a scary looking mech... big, ugly, and asymmetrical = unattractive = nice plus in mwo :-)

I like how you are not stressing the firepower skills and showing off the other skill trees. Some people for get about mobility, and that is when they find out just how deadly LRMs can be.
@joekehr42697 жыл бұрын
Well, that was very entertaining! :-D Thanks! Just a little comment on your initial overview: The tree and the percentages are a bit abstract. If you point out the actual armor points and specifically the bonus (+26 for CT armor, +22 for side torsos, etc.) this would really drive the point home. Particularly if you put it in perspective (unleveled Dire Wolf has about the same CT armor?). I mean - in your recent video on the Atlas the central point was: 111 CT Structure (while having only 15 points more CT armor than this 75t-Orion build). Also, thanks for pointing out the screen shake thing! Most people are not really aware that of the extent of those skill nodes (although they are usually forced upon you by the structure of the tree and I'd skip them if Speed Retention wasn't more useless).

I wanted to use an Orion IIC for a long time and finally got one. Thanks , that building is a beast ! Talk about close range heavy weaponry and endurance... It really made me go easy on the current event. Better use it now before it gets nerfed ! Though I don't own one, it seems Gargoyles are back. Saw some guy pulling over 1100 damage with a GAR-D, close range weapons too. With the new skill tree, maybe it could get covered on one of your future videos.

There is an interesting effect if you put 8 points on the rear STs, it only takes away one point from the front and the max armor jumps from 81/86 to 82/87, FYI.

The Orion IIC has armor quirks for at least half a year and still has :-) One of the few reasons to use it over a Timberwolf. (10 vs 15 fixed HS) Orion has more tonnage because of the smaller engine. Timberwolf has higher hard points though.
@arsarma18087 жыл бұрын
If he's going over 81 and has more armor, and you can put at least 4 heat sinks in that engine, the Orion IIC is just a better mech.

Really love your videos and I wish you all the best for your plans to go yt fulltime. I wonder if you are willing to do a short how to video for the skill tree because I gotta admit that I struggle a bit in understanding it. There are so many "currencies" that are involved in it. There are XP, SP, HSP, HXP whatever that all might be. I had to take a 6 months break from the game because I've become father. Yesterday I finally made it back into the game but was overwhelmed by the amount of data to process so to say^^ A litte bit of help there would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

Btw...how are we going to model up the new Gear/Tech/Mechs going forward? I've heard rumors that Smurfy has stopped playing the game, so will the new Tech get updated on his site? I think it'll be pretty hard to play this game without Smurfy because I LOVE theory crafting. :) Like for instance, can I outfit my Atlas with a Light Fusion Engine and then stick in an Ultra AC/20 and 3 MRM20's? :) I'm hoping yes.

I think the skilling of the armor/structure tree is a little exaggerated. The upper right part only bears 4 good skills (armor and structure) and 5 bad or "not so good" skills imo (Shock absorbance, casing). I would take the ams overload in the middle (yes, absolutely useless) to be able to skill the lower right side of the tree (5 good skills out of 7 overall). I would also leave the far left side unskilled ( 2 good skills out of 4 = 50% ratio = bad). One might consider casing a good skill or "half a good skill" of course". Just a thought... With the spared SP one could skill other stuff like target retention or seismic sensors (!!!) for example. Those come in handy if you are brawling sometimes :). I know.... Mr.Smartass on tour.... sorraaay! Can't help myself. I might be wrong. Don't hate me please :D
@Ishlacorrin7 жыл бұрын
Just a note, if you skill into more internal structure but not the anti crit casing then you die really fast to LBX and Machine Guns the second you lose your armour. TBH the whole tree (except AMS O, and maybe Shock A) is worth the points.
@michaelheld76017 жыл бұрын
Can someone please figure out how casing decreases critical hit chances overall and then tell Baradul so that he can make a video that i can watch? :D Totally get the idea. I just can't tell how deep of an impact casing has atm because i don't know what these numbers are actually saying.... "There is a 25% chance of causing 1 critical hit, a 14% chance of causing 2 critical hits, and a 3% chance of causing 3 critical hits (for a total of a 42% chance of any sort of critical hit)" SRC: www.reddit.com/r/mwo/comments/13wica/how_crits_work_according_to_pgi_authoritative/ So how does casing exactly(!) translate into crit hit chance?? There are multiple options to do the math now.. and even if it works in the best kind of ways: if they come with LBXs or MGs, i am somewhat doubting that 8 out of 8 (instead of 4 out of 8 on my tree) will protect the components efficiently... And what is " Seismic Sensoer +100"???? Meters? Percent?? Inch?? Soemwhat half of +200?!? (wasn't it 240m radius before?) Is UAV duration in seconds? How much is standard UAV range these days?? How many "strategic strike No. of shells" are coming down if i don't skill??? Someone please let me know :).

@bonzwah17 жыл бұрын
Beetamus Maximus i mean what people "always say" are clearly based on the gamestate prior to the skill tree haha. so its a bit nonsensical to judge what was said before based on what you are witnessing now. that said, we will see how the skill tree plays out over on the IS side. maybe there will be a brawler of even greater magnitude arriving soon. and once the tech update arrives complete with inner sphere light engines, lbx 20, uac 20, etc. the game state will change drastically again.
@VanBurenPhilips7 жыл бұрын
I play way more IS than Clan, so I'm not sure. I always wondered why we didn't see more clan brawlers in faction play, because their brawly weapons are perfectly capable, a lot lighter and no hotter - some of the guys I played with said it was because they didn't have the armour/structure quirks. Even so, the Orion IIC and Highlander IIC were bloody great at it in the old skill system (just two examples I own, I'm sure there are more). Having played every type of build except LRM boats in all of the IS Orions and IICs... it pains me to say it, but the IIC is significantly better.

Zeus 5S with STD 315, 3 LPL and 3SRM4 (with better spread than clan srm4+A). You can basically perma fire the 3LPS at midrange, and you have crazy +30 CT and +20 side torso quirks. Got 1460 with it today. Or you can go AC 10 + 3 SRM 6+A and 3 ML, also a beast. Or you can go full tryhard and play a battlemaster laservomit poke build and deal 70 dmg alphas while exposing 1% of your frame, and I assure you you'll never complain about IS ever again.

@ChurchAutoTest7 жыл бұрын
I've found that, between the potato LRMers, slightly increased armor on most mechs, and the extra ammo you carry, my damage numbers in general are up a bit across the board. I've only skilled 3-4 of my favorite mechs to play until new tech comes out and one is a LBX10, 6 SPL Huntsman and I had a 3 game stretch yesterday where I did 773, 1142 and 1225 dmg. The last two being my best dmg ever in that mech by far, and 1225 being my best dmg ever, in any mech, let alone a 50 tonner. The sad part is, I still lost 2 of the 3 matches by at least 5 kills.....
@zarcon57507 жыл бұрын

did clan really need a buff? i thought there was a reason they didnt get quirks
@bonzwah17 жыл бұрын
joe bab apparently the IS quirks are still there. they just scale with the skill tree. so IS mechs, to my understanding, that had armor and structure quirks before get much higher percentage bonuses from the skill tree. this orion iic looks crazy but i believe people are gonna start whipping out some tanky mofos from IS side soon. i think what pgi ended up doing in this game is that they made structure and mobility preferable over firepower for most situations. what this does is increase time to kill across the board which many people have been asking for. it also does something really cool for laser vomit and gauss ppc builds. increasing time to kill generally nerfs peaking builds compared to brawling builds. those peaking builds can try to spec into firepower to try to reduce time to kill on their opponents but by forgoing defensive stats they heavily decrease their own time to kill which sorta accentuates their strength while also accentuating their weakness. we'll see how this plays out but in theory this is perfect design philosophy. no build should be one size fits all in this game. and builds with clear strengths need clear weaknesses. i think this will go a long way toward nerfing laser vomit and gauss ppc but only time will tell. its a complex game and this community doesn't min max much so it might take some time for the meta to shift even if the gamestate favors something else
@gfarrell807 жыл бұрын
Increased time to kill makes lower firepower light mechs close to irrelevant.
@bonzwah17 жыл бұрын
lol i hope so, then maybe pgi will be forced to look at their horrendously irrelevant information warfare system, and maybe start adding and buffing utility items for light mechs to carry. like I wish flamers were more flexible to use, I wish allied sensor data provided damage bonuses (perhaps gated by the skill tree) which would create a scenario where light mechs spotting and bringing narc and/or tag would be able to assist teams without lrm's, and ecm would provide more tangible defense on the front line protecting allies from damage bonuses in direct fire engagements. light mechs shouldn't be providing personal damage. thats silly. 35 ton mechs shouldn't be doing damage remotely comparable to 50 70 and 100 tons mechs. what they should provide should synergize with their speed and size.
