The job of the guards and horses is to entertain the "ignorant tourists" for a while, after which the tourists can go and spend lots of their lovely money at other tourist attractions.

doubledee9675 - I disagree. These are men and women serving their country. They are not there to be abused - seen it. Pawed on - seen it. Flipped off - seen it. Babies shoved almost in the horses mouth for a photo - seen it. Look at all these videos, you’ll see it all. It’s a total lack of respect for military personnel.

An hour is a long time to stand in one position. Try it! The guards on foot at Buckingham Palace and other places don't stand that long. They swap places regularly. For an animal it's even harder. They naturally tend to be moving unless they're asleep. The stupid tourists are the biggest problem there.

i was looking to see if anyone else noticed the horse just hams for the camera and wants to nuzzle all the people that come to it. its loving attention no doubt. but they are in fact, giant machines with souls, im so afraid of them unless theres a fence between us because i know they spook easier than i do and thats scary. i once was on a horse as a teen that bolted down the road and into a 4 lane road. i had no idea what i was doin and literally threw myself off him once he hit the road cause i thought we were going to die. i have a HUGE amount of awe and pure respect for them. as ive gotten older, i see them for the beautiful, perfectly designed creatures that they are and im learning to not be so afraid and try to connect with a few, and it was so rewarding. my heart grew 50 sizes when they didnt stomp me or eat me. That was the impression that I got too. I suspect that it was not the flag itself, but rather, the tall whippy rod it was on. It looked like a schooling whip! And although these horses are well handled, schooled and cared for, they are imported from all over Ireland. Early handling is not always as it should be. Horses are very forgiving but they have very long memories.

I've heard horses described as one-ton cats with wooden feet. No lie detected there. I was on a nice, relaxing trail ride as a pre-teen, mounted on a saddlebred I'd considered my 'brother from another mother' and a deer flew across our path with the speed of light. This four-legged babysitter juked sideways and was 200 yards into the woods before I knew what had happened. How I stayed in the saddle I cannot say to this very day. I think he knows I've forgiven him.

The horses shouldn’t have to deal with the lack of common sense as they seem to have to minute by minute…in this one for example, horse is spooked, dumbass with selfie stick filming and proceeds to follow it into the courtyard as it’s going back into the box…courtesy is also gone as well, I’ve seen little to no acknowledgment to the soldiers, a simple thank you wouldn’t hurt, it doesn’t matter that they can’t say anything back…

That's a beautiful horse! A bit big for my duffel bag but maybe with a bit of tamping he would fit. Of course, I'd need another duffel bag for the guardsman...ship them both to Indiana. Treat the guard to some Hoosier hospitality for a couple of weeks, get a collar for the horse and have the dogs teach him how to bark. If the police have any questions we can say the horse is just a big Irish Wolf hound; that should work. Then we could ship them back to London with an adventure to tell! Sigh! Not likely to happen but a nice fantasy...

@@Sharon-bo2se Never will so keep the horses away from them .Like children really you tell them to steer clear of the open fire but they don't so you install a fire guard. Keeping the fire away from the child not keeping the child from the fire. Semantics really. But whatever people shouldn't be allowed to touch the horses.

I find it astonishing that these stupid people with their selfie sticks, backpacks, pushchairs, & small children think it’s appropriate to approach these magnificent horses prodding & poking at them & being totally oblivious to the fact it’s an animal that has feelings, can get upset & they still don’t move away !

These horses are not ill treated. Maybe civvies should go to Knightsbridge barracks and find out how they are treated. Also horse guards, instead of assuming these horses are treated badly. Maybe the CO could give you a guided tour or explain to you how the horses are treated.

When u hold your hand out flat to a horse, it thinks you have a treat. If these isn’t one, the horse is disappointed, confused, & frustrated. Know your animals, & if you don’t, don’t mess. Keep away from the horses!

These are working animals just the same way as guide dogs and sniffer dogs are. It’s fine if people want to look and take a photo from a reasonable distance but touching the horses and posing with them should be off limits.

Either put up a well- thought -out boundary or Stop the custom of the mounted guards and yes, even the ones who are on foot , of having to have close contact with the public. Let them do their drills protected much better in some way. Keep more police nearby and stop permitting the public so close to the palace for any reason

Why do horses get scared so easily????? Because they hear twice as well as a human. And can distinguish sounds from different directions. We miss many things because we don't hear them. Horses sometimes hear the fleas coughing. And since they are flight animals, they get scared easily. Trust in their people makes them self-confident and strong ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
