There are disappearances that are mysterious and seem impossible and are fascinating for that reason. But then there are others that are fascinating for a different reason. These are the cases that are so horrifying once solved that it almost seems as though it would have been better if the case was never solved at all. Almost. Two of the stories in todays video are exactly that. As always viewer discretion is advised.

What angers me most about Omar’s case is the family only found out because a greedy family member decided to finally tell folk what had happened, he didn’t do it out of the kindness of his heart, he kept this secret hidden and only revealed what happened because of money. They never cared that he was a prisoner, just only spoke out because of greed.

So in Maura's case, that cadaver dog goes crazy in the corner of the abandoned house that used to be owned by a possible suspect and the cops dismiss it as "ah, probably just smelled some droplets from an old nosebleed or something" and leave it at that?! 7:02 It's so frustrating when people don't pay attention when their pets are clearly trying to tell them something. I've heard of several cases of people being kidnapped or murdered, and their pets knew where they were and tried to tell their families, but they either ignored this behavior or dismissed it as the pet just acting irrationally. Your pets have much better senses than you do and can detect things you don't. If they want you to follow them and look at something, FOLLOW THEM AND LOOK AT IT.

I highly recommend Media Pressure: The Untold Story of Maura Murray, a podcast hosted by her sister released on the 20th anniversary of Maura’s disappearance. Its the family’s way of regaining control of the media narrative of Maura’s case which has been covered dozens and dozens of times now since the explosion in popularity of true crime content, does a complete deep dive into the ENTIRE investigation, as well as who Maura really was and what her family has endured for the past two decades. AND hopefully bring forth the legitimate, tiny tips that can finally solve her case and bring her home to her family, even if it is only her remains. It still breaks my heart for her family, and after so much external speculation I was really grateful that this podcast brought it right back to the source material and humanised Maura again, even though her family telling hers and their story is pretty devastating because it’s no longer ‘characters’ in a story about a famous mystery, it’s REAL PEOPLE, which is a very sobering change if you’re a consumer of a lot of true crime content or have watched other documentaries on Maura’s case before.

Regarding Maura Murray, there was a show about her on the ID channel. They mentioned either a sock, or some type of rag (I can’t remember exactly) in her car’s exhaust pipe that the responding officer had found. It was speculated that when she stopped to buy the alcohol, someone had tried to sabotage her car by trying to block the tailpipe. This would cause the car to run terribly and eventually stop the engine. It was quite possible her assailant followed her after leaving the store and then “played hero” when she crashed into the ditch. I’m surprised you didn’t mention that, but a great video nonetheless. Keep up the great work bro 👊🏼

That "Self-Proclaimed Psychic" was Sylvia Browne, a woman who spent decades acting as a psychic on a variety of TV shows and radio programs, and she also claimed to have helped solve over 100 criminal cases with her psychic abilities. One of the worst bits about her career as a fraudster is that the Amanda Berry case (she and two other girls were kidnapped by Ariel Castro) ISN'T the only time where she told a grieving family that their kidnapped relative was dead when they were actually alive. In 2002 (two years before Amanda Berry was kidnapped) an 11 year old boy named Shawn Hornbeck was kidnapped while out riding his bike. His parents later on went onto "The Montel Williams Show" where Sylvia Browne told the parents that Shawn had been murdered by a tall Hispanic male with dreadlocks who had been driving a blue Chevy Impala made in the late 1950's. Sylvia also gave some details about where the body had been buried and how he had been murdered. In 2007 the police were investigating the kidnapping of 13 year old Ben Ownby when they happened to discover Shawn Hornbeck still alive. Both Shawn and Ben had been taken by Michael Devlin, a white man who had been driving a white pick-up during both kidnappings.

@@gloriafeliciano8922 Absolutely! Back in 2010, the "Skeptical Inquirer" magazine published a study that looked at 115 kidnapping and/or murder cases where Sylvia Browne made predictions/claimed to have solved them. The researchers compared her predictions with what had actually been revealed later on as the police investigations continued. There was not a single case of the 115 where Browne had been right. In fact, of the 25 cases out of the 115 that had been solved, Browne was completely wrong in ALL of them. With the other cases that were still unsolved, there was no evidence that supported her claims. There were a ton of cases where Sylvia Browne falsely predicted that a missing person was still alive when in reality they were dead, which in my opinion is just as cruel as claiming someone who was alive was actually dead. There were also cases where she claimed a missing person had been murdered when in reality they had died in an accident. In 2004 she said that a 19 year old named Ryan Katcher who had gone missing in 2000 had been murdered, and that his body had been dumped "in a metal shaft". However, in 2006 his body was discovered in his truck at the bottom of a lake near where he was going to school and all the evidence pointed to him accidentally sliding off the road during winter in the middle of the night and drowning. Sylvia Browne doesn't seem to have cared at all about how her fake claims affected people during her career as a psychic, along with the various TV shows that were more than happy to let her make up shit on TV if it made for good ratings.

It's always surprising to me when Slovakia gets mentioned on the internet, as I feel like not a lot of people know we exist. Thank you for covering this mystery! The Tribeč Disappearances (and Walter's case in particular) are relatively well-known in Slovakia, there is even a book and a movie about people trying to uncover the mystery (although it is a fictional story), which popularized it a few years back.

I actually messaged one of my really good friends right after watching the video because she and her now-husband both emigrated to Australia from Slovakia and it does seem like no one covers Slovak cases, when we worked together customers would think they were being nice and ‘culturally sensitive’ saying ‘speciba’ to her from hearing her accent, EVERY TIME it happened I could see her jaw flinch as she smiled and let it go because uhhhhhh no, not everyone with an Eastern European accent is Russian 🤦🏼‍♀️ She’s really proud of her heritage, she absolutely made ME want to visit Slovakia (and I have a LOT of free accommodation and tour guides who’d love to have me thanks to her friends and family), I actually learned some Slovak from her, our Facebook comments to each other seem REALLY odd to her friends since we call each other koza and krava as our personal-affectionate-inside-joke-insult and have done for decades, but out of context her Aussie friends obviously don’t know the translation, and her Slovak friends are like, why are they insulting each other?!? 😂 When they had kids, she and her husband taught them Slovak as their first language at home as well because they knew that from TV, living in an English speaking community, and especially as soon as they went to preschool, English would be their dominant language but it’s really important to them that their kids know Slovak so they can communicate properly and easily with their extended family who are mostly still living in Slovakia. Lastly, I’m sorry about what the film ‘Hostel’ decided to depict your beautiful country and people as. I can’t wait to go there, I’ve been planning my next European venture for some time to go back to Italy for a month, spend a month in Malta with my OTHER best friend’s family since she’s Maltese and I need to go to Gozo, and then back to Austria, Switzerland, then to Poland, Slovakia, and St Petersburg for the FIRST time. I’ve had an obsession with Russian history my whole life, especially WWII Leningrad, but… unfortunately I think I’ll have to delay my trip until things are a BIT less concerning to visit St Petersburg as a lone western woman, especially if you-know-who gets a second term in the US presidency. Slovakia is on my bucket list though ❤

@@sookieb_88 What a nice and well-thought-out comment, thank you! Slovakia definitely has both great and bad things about it just like most countries, but I hope you'll really enjoy your eventual visit! It's actually not as uncommon to run into tourists here as one might think, which does make me happy! And yeah, considering the current situation, it would be best to wait before making the St Petersburg visit... let's just hope things become better rather than worse! Oh and regarding Hostel... it is actually one of the VERY few horror movies I saw in my life, and it was awful lmao. And the depiction of Slovakia was laughably bad. So thank you for mentioning it, it gives me hope when I see that people do not let that movie prevent them from visiting here!

Would Rudolf Diesel, the inventor of the eponymous diesel engine, count for this series? On September 29, 1913, the 55 year old Diesel boarded the SS Dresden, and was last seen alive around 10:00 PM. He was considered missing for about 10 days, until a (very badly decomposed) body was found in the English Channel, and through the use of personal effects identified by his son, were confirmed to be his. This would mean that his disappearance has technically been solved, but it’s unclear if he was murdered or commited suicide

The first story reminds me of the tragedy that happened to Natascha Kampusch, a story from Austria if I'm not mistaken: she was locked up in the basement by her own father for over a decade. It gets worse than that but I'll leave it here...
@mommy2libras
@mommy2libras 2 ай бұрын
You're thinking of Elisabeth Fritzl, whose father basically built a dungeon apartment under their house and held her there for 24 years. He r*ped her repeatedly over the years, having her give birth 7 times to his children, alone, in a dim, badly ventilated, cramped area, even creating one of them himself right there in the house when it died shortly after birth. Natasha Kampusch was also kidnapped but it was by a stranger and he held her for 8 years.

You mixed up two stories, both from Austria and both horrofying. Natasha Kampusch was kept for 8,5 years by a man she didn't know. Elisabeth Fritzl was kept for 24 years in a basement/bunker by her father, Joseph.

@@lesanimaux4416is Elizabeth the one where her father was the father of her kids, the mom lived upstairs and didn't know her daughter was alive in the basement, and was eventually freed cause one of the kids was so ill that she talked her father into letting her take the kid to the hospital so he didn't die like the other one did?
@lesanimaux4416
@lesanimaux4416 2 ай бұрын
@@jamieweatherwalk2752 I believe so, yes. Joseph made Elisabeth write letters to avoid suspicion and he even left one of the babies at their own door so he and his wife could raise the kid as their own, for some reason. As for Natasha, she gained her abductor's trust over time and made her escape when she found he left a gate unlocked. The abductor unalived himself when he realized she got away. Natasha later purchased the property and tore it all down. She is thriving, such a brave woman.
@CaleebTalib
@CaleebTalib 9 күн бұрын
@@lesanimaux4416I think tearing it down is cool but imagine not even doing that just living in the house out of spite. Or at least build a new house right on top. Apathy is the true opposite of love and living right on top where your captor unalived himself would go pretty hard and a true disrespect to them. Obviously not everyone feels that way but I think it’d be pretty metal.

My theory is that Walter agreed to some kind of shenanigans, something people wouldn't approve of. He set himself up with a story that would allow him to disappear without needing to explain his whereabouts to his family and job. He went willingly but was probably captive during the time. If his wounds were so bad, he had to be cared for--whoever it was didn't want him dead. I think he was set free, rather than escaped. Walter's acquiescence would keep him quiet. Part of mental control is making the person feel like they will also be implicated if crimes are revealed. So what was it? Secret murder cult? BDSM games? One possibility was mystic rituals. As an example how serious people take things sometimes, in Britain before WW2, one of the new witchcraft traditions sacrificed a volunteer in an effort to prevent war. Walter might have volunteered for an endurance ritual of some kind, to try magically influence the world and keep his home safe. In a Christian community, his action could not be spoken of without being ostracized. Like the delusional Omar in Algeria, Walter might've believed he was still being affected.

@@Badficwriter Of course, but I'm from Czechia (former Czechoslovakia) and this "lights" are from very old stories, not even attached to witchcraft, but it is some kind entity. It's sometimes called "bludička". I don't know how to translate it. Stories about it's in legends and fairytales, very often it go like this: man are going through the dense forest in night, and suddenly see lights. He thinks, maybe cottage it's here, and go after the lights, but they are moving far and far from him, he follow and suddenly he find himself in swamp, and fight for life. Pray or talisman can save him. Or lights jump on man's back, and if he make it alive, he is burned and scratched (exactly what happened Mr. Fisher). I can believe or not, but when I camp and spent night in forests, I'm aware both bears and mythological creatures.

Wow! I've heard some strange stories on this channel and many others but, that story about WALTER sent me for a loop! If that doesn't send shivers down a person's spine then nothing will! It's downright terrifying to even fantasize about what could have possibly happened to this man. When they spoke of him cowering under tables and such upon hearing the slightest loud noise it immediately reminded me of the scene in the movie _"Fire In The Sky!"_ about the supposed alien abduction of Travis Walton. Yes it was just a _movie_ , and the script writers took a lot of liberties with Travis' account of what he said happened to him, and re-wrote much of the alien probing scenes and the ending so as to make the movie much scarier and profitable...etc. That's just the way Hollywood works, and why they have to say "BASED on a true story" ...etc. But the way they made the "movie version" of Travis Walton react after he was found again and during the welcome home scene when he cowers under the table, is obviously very reminiscent of the state of WALTER in this story. So it truly makes you wonder what in the PITS OF HELL did he go through to turn him into a terrified lunatic who couldn't function or speak of anything that happened to him no matter who asked or how hard they tried. And for his case files being destroyed only makes it so much more intriguing!
