I am 47 years old and when I was 16 I remember helping my friend and his dad put tile In a bathroom screwing osb to a wall, then adding chicken wire to the osb. We then put concrete on the wall and made sure it was perfectly flat. From my understanding that bathroom still stands today bone dry no leaks. All this red guard and Kerdi board was not available or used back in the day.

I'm 201 years old and when I was 8 I remember helping my friend and his dad tie bamboo leaves to make a shower wall in a bathroom, tieing the leaves together to form a patchwork. We then draped that over a few peices of wooden branches that we'd chopped earlier to make sure we had a perfect enclosure. From my understanding that bathroom still had the original bamboo leaves. All this OSB, chicken wire and concrete was not available or used back in the day.

Very nice video. do you leave a space between the base of the Kerdi board for the wall and the lip of the tub flange or does it just rest on top of it ? Thank you!
@schlutersystems13 жыл бұрын
Hi there, when KERDI-BOARD is installed above the tub flange, apply KERDI-FIX to the tub flange and spread using a small notched trowel. Then install the KERDI-BOARD directly to the KERDI-FIX so it is resting on the lip of the tub flange. Please feel free to contact our Product Support team directly if you would like to discuss your project in more detail. 800-472-4588 (US) or 800-667-8746 (Canada). Thanks!

Bold move at 3:20 to use a Sharpie to mark the KERDI-BOARD for that kneewall... while marking all over the brand new tub. 🤣 The line might be covered in this application, but typically it would probably be better to use a pencil or non-permanent marker of some sort. Details matter... especially if a pro is doing a job for a customer and has a reputation on the line. At the end of the job I'd hate to rely upon a thin bead of white caulk to hide permanent marker! 🖍 🛁

Are you able to use the schluter "all-set" mortor instead of unmodified for bonding kerdi band to the board?
@schlutersystems117 күн бұрын
Yes, you can use an unmodified thin-set or ALL-SET to bond KERDI-BAND over KERDI-BOARD.

How do you seal with the band where it meets the drywall at the edges? Does the band extend past the kerdi board or does the edge of the band line up with the drywall line?
@schlutersystems14 жыл бұрын
Hi Ceeloc, KERDI-BAND and thin-set can be used to join the KERDI-BOARD and drywall or drywall mud and tape can be used there. Whichever you prefer or is easier for you is fine. Hope this helps.

Hello, can the Kerdi band be taped, mudded and painted at the Kerdi to drywall transition? Or is there a recommended finish for that area? Thanks!

Yes, you may mud and tape over the KERDI to Drywall connection.

Like the idea of Kerdiboard, but I would not build a knee wall out of it. Best to make a framed wall, then put Kerdi over that. Also the reason to use cement to patch the screws is because a self-adhesive glue patch would leave air pocket around the screw and that is bad for tile support.

I can't find any info. regarding vapor barriers behind Kerdi board if the tub back wall is an exterior wall in a cold climate. Any recommendations?
@schlutersystems12 жыл бұрын
Hi David, Exterior walls generally have a vapor barrier in place already and it is fine to add the KERDI-BOARD on to the studs of the exterior wall as well. There is no concern with having the two vapor barriers. If you do not already have a vapor barrier on your exterior wall, you can discuss with a local codes office to find out if one is required. Hope this helps!

Tile expert Sal Diblasi says to bring the kerdiboard to the tub deck to avoid movement and tile cracking. Who is right?
@schlutersystems13 жыл бұрын
Hi Jonathan! KERDI-BOARD can be installed directly to the tub deck or onto the flange. Either way is fine, as KERDI-BOARD is dimensionally stable. A movement joint such as DILEX-AS or DILEX-BWA could also be used to address movement. Hope this helps!

Shouldn’t the board be over the tub lip and not on top of it?
@schlutersystems12 жыл бұрын
Either way is fine. KERDI-BOARD can be installed flush with the tub flange or over the tub flange leaving a minimum space of 1/4" (6 mm) between the board and the tub deck. Remember, when KERDI-BOARD is installed above the tub flange, apply KERDI-FIX to the tub flange and spread using a small notched trowel prior to installing KERDI-BAND.

it is always recommended to use 'unmodified' thin set. Yet schluter thin sets (such as AllSet) for use with all kerdi products 'are modified'. I find this confusing.
@schlutersystems18 ай бұрын
In general, latex-modified mortars dry very slowly through the open joints in the tile covering. Schluter’s modified thin-set mortars have been specifically formulated to set and gain strength in a time-frame that fits typical installation practice, even when sandwiched between Schluter membranes or boards and porcelain tile. So, developing our own setting materials has given us the ability to guarantee consistently positive results. You can check out the Thin-Set Facts page of the Shower Installation Handbook for complete details.

There is a reason, I just forgot because I use what they recommend - The price is about the same.
@AD-fd9vz3 жыл бұрын
There a video where they explain why but ill do a short version for you: They offer a warranty with unmodified thin set because they show consistent result all the time. They cant do the same with modified thin set because they dont know what in these product as they dont know how it will react to their product. So you could use modified thin set but dont expect them give you a warranty if it fail. For the difference in price i would definitively go with the unmodified.

Kevin Miles 2 guys stood on it. Do you see what you wrote. Do you know the difference between the stresses that standing on something and pushing on something would have. You can stand on 2 eggs vertically, you can not stand on them horizontally. I said fell over so the weight and the forsee would be pushing sideways and it would snap the foam. Foam is not strong that way. Especially the way he built it here.

Schluter products are overrated and overpriced. Also followed mixture procedure of their All set cement and found out that the wall membrane did not adhere to the mold resistant drywall consistently. I couldn't take a chance expecting this membrane to support wall tiles. Schluter warranty is only on paper. They squirm out of honoring their warranty by finding excuses. All contractors with years of experience I spoke to stay away from Schluter products.
