She shouldn't have taken a different route, that was out if the way. (There could be a lot of variation within the route.) Some of the students might have honestly, after multiple tellings and nature of how they were questioned, thought that the bus driver treatened to crash the bus. It is however very possible the dus driver said something along the line of or with the meaning, "Settle down and stay in your seats you're being a distraction." I recall my parents saying, "sit down, you're being a distraction. You could cause an accident." Parents should have the opportunity to ride the school bus and see what it is like with 30 or 40 or more childern misbehaving let alone doing seriously dangerous things like having their arms and heads out the window. Or climbing over the back of the seat. Or launching pencils with a rubberband. Or leaning over the set to hold the student in front of them around the neck. Children are amazingly creative and when misbehaving can be very distracting. EDIT: Also a busdriver should never leave students on the bus unattended.

yes i know kids lie and tell their parents that their teacher or busdriver is mean causing the teacher or busdriver to face severe consequences, like being fired, or if a kid lies about being sexually abused by the teacher/busdriver, they will both be put on the registered sex offender list even when falsely accused and nowadays it's best to believe the busdriver along with the kids because the kid's lives are at stake by a mean or abusive or dangerous busdriver.

Big News day!! I can remember trips on the school bus back in the day...my sincere apologies to the bus drivers! This sounds like a cranky bus driver overwrought by a bus load of excited noisy kids. Here's a couple of points where I think i can put enough doubt in your mind to change your thinking (maybe I'm reaching):: One. The bus company will have a policy about traveling directly to a destination without detours for personal shopping and I presume they had inducted the substitute driver so they would be aware of them. If not then I think the bus company has a problem. Two. Telling children "to behave and settle down otherwise I'll crash the bus" could be read two ways. One as a threat (which young children would have naturally concluded as they process language literally at that age) or two as an implied safety warning which aught to have been communicated like "it's dangerous for me to drive when you're being noisy and distracting me, it might cause me to crash the bus, so settle down and then we can go" . Can we be absolutely sure what was said was meant as a threat or a warning? Three: If it cannot be a warning - can we be absolutely honest whether the threat was intended as a real threat and likely to be actionable or was it one of those spontaneous brain farts - a throwaway line from a moody overwrought driver, have we all not had times like these as a parent? Four. Children do lie but generally only do so for their own preservation. Here the boy talks about the conduct of the driver and I think we can absolutely rely on it to the extent he is able to communicate his perception of what happened. The question really was he capable of accurately perceiving the all participants behavior during the episode to give us what we'd need to judge the drivers response to the situation. Five. It's important for parents and teachers and the rest of us, not to blow up these issues in front of the kids. You'll end up traumatizing them and they'll become incredibly fearful and risk adverse - that's not the kind of people they want to be. Six. The tape aught to have worked. Why was it not working? Again the company /school is accountable to the kids and parents for making sure this stuff is always fully operational.

@@cierradunham4296 actually, they are very safe. We had a bus rear-ended by a strung-out crackhead acouple of years ago. The bus was going about 35, getting up to speed on a speed limit 60 road and was rear-ended buy a vehicle going approximately 115-120 mph. The students on the bus were checked out in the hospital, spent the night at home, and were all at school the next day. The design of the bus and the way it absorbed the impact saved their lives. The crackhead wasn't so lucky. What is not safe is having each child seat-belted in a seat and expecting a driver to figure out how they're going to release and rescue 45 plus students with a bus that is potentially on fire. School buses and their seats are designed to protect students when they are riding in the seat properly. Seat belts are more of a false sense of security in this case.

Let me say this...Not all school bus drivers are perfect. Example: I worked for a school dist. for 33 year and have seen a lot of bad stuff and great stuff from school bus drivers. There was a driver of special needs children that took the kids to a park. lined them up along the outside of the bus and started doing some sort of chanting, she was trying to rid them from being possessed by the devil. A school bus driver years ago was witnessed saying watch me destroy that teenager in his sports car and she proceeded to turn off her street and driver right over the top of my friends TR3, breaking both his arms and legs. Then the creepy pedophile driver who was told by the dist. to choose to leave or be charged. Now this guy I found a year later working at a daycare with very young children. I of course talked to one of the other helpers asking why did they hire this sex offender and told them why he had to leave the school dist. Be good parents and get to know the drivers of your children. You can't always trust what a school dist. says about them.

I have a bus story. So my oldest is on the autism spectrum. he was upset one day because the bus driver wouldn't let him out off the bus to wait for his cab (The bus wouldn't take him all the way home so the bus would take him to a certain point and then a cab would take him the rest of the way home), And this caused him to have a meltdown because he was freaking out because the bus driver wouldn't let him off And he thought that he wasn't going to be able to get home. Then the bus driver threatened to call the police on him instead of trying to calm him down and redirecting him which caused him to kick at the bus driver cuz he was trying to get away At some point the bus driver ended up basically taking him to the ground and choking him. My son had nail marks all over his neck and his neck was bleeding. When I asked to press charges, the police told me I could not press charges because the bus driver was elderly and was just defending himself And that my son was the first to get aggressive. . I told the police that defending himself would be properly restraining my son or holding him in a way that he can't harm anyone or harm himself. This bus driver decided to choke my son and that is not self defense. I was livid!!! I called the school and told them that if they did not fire the bus driver then I was going to get a lawyer and sue. What baffles me is why they would put someone on a special needs bus who doesn't know how to properly handle special needs kids! 🤦🤦🤦 The school ended up taking care of the issue.
