The part about how writers cannot write a character more intelligent than themselves reminds me of the Big Bang Theory. It's a show about intelligent people but it's made for those of more modest intellect, and its caricatures of intelligent people are absurd and ludicrously stereotypical. I've even seen Jordan Peterson address it and point out that the evidence overwhelmingly supports a positive correlation between intelligence and social skills, not the opposite (this doesn't invalidate what Schopenhauer says at all by the way - you can have social skills and still have a massive penalty to socialization due to the envy of your lessers).

Awesome! I was a professional astrologer and found that merely suggesting that change itself would be required to reach the goal proposed by the querient, would offend many deeply. I got in the habit of asking clients how much truth they cared to hear, to gage quality and quantity of response. Also kudos for comparison to Nietzche’s function of will; applies to current chaos out there now.

Also timeliness of truth has significance. Lies are mans greatest weapons. Truth now will put end to unnecessary suffering and loss of life. Stalin has a very good quote. It goes something like this... "No man, no problem." And with that our history and been completely fabricated not only to the causes but to the actual events themselves. TV and what they brought forth being the most dangerous and effective weapon to spread their lies. School follows in a proud second place. Learning lies is it much of learning at all. Learn to read only what you are told. Kind of backwards don't you think.

Misogyny is naturally inherent in us. You gotta hate somebody or something in life. Some ppl hate everything about life so much that if they had a red buttom to push to end all life, they would at the push of a buttom.

@@Eric-ej3oy No, I don't need to hate anything or anyone. Good enough to learn, understand, and then move on. Hate, even when justified, eats away at people. Wasted energy.

People being offended is not justification for shutting down free speech or the discussion of ideas. If someone is offended by any content on any platform, they are free to switch to content that does resonate.
@paulaoh53062 ай бұрын
@DZ-rf9fh I don't think anyone said anything about shutting down free speech. This writing is in the public domain--anyone can find it and read it any time they want. And they should. Context is important--such attitudes were the cultural norm when Schopenhaur was writing. And sexism persists, so let's not kid ourselves. I would prefer that more context is provided for these writings, and I said elsewhere that I would prefer to hear more of Schopenhaur's enlightening and edifying writing than this kind of thing.
@DZ-rf9fh2 ай бұрын
@@paulaoh5306I am glad you articulated that you want more context. Don't agree with the current feminist approach, of offence. Not all men are sexiest by a long shot. I personally enjoyed more support from men than women during my career. Being offended is a personal issue and causes further difficulties vs asking for and being clear about what you want and need. The world will never be what one wants it to be, and as far a womens rights go, you have them, use them wisely.

Look, there's plenty we can learn from Schopenhauer, but this is not it. I was disappointed by this because I was hoping to hear something a bit more edifying. There are so many great lectures on YT that I don't want to waste my time. Anyone who has spent an hour in the world or on social media can make these same observations and not be much better for it. The better person focuses his or her attention elsewhere.
