I have eventually had the problem with the com's system fixed on my C4. It took a while and involved a lot of hassle taking the helmet to an authorised dealer to be sent back and fourth for a fix. I'm glad I live in Europe for you guys it would be interesting. To sum up the problem with the helmet it was a mix of internal wiring within the helmet and the SC1 communication kit specifically. Helmet back to Schuberth Germany internals replaced and the SC1ADVANCED fitted. My helmet now performs flawlessly. It took a while but the squeaking wheel.

I forgot to add the chin vent cover can easily be lost/detach itself in use, put a piece of double sided tape on same to fix. Hope this helps.

I've had my C4 for just over a year. There was initially a problem with the cheap in house made pinlock type visor insert; I had a bit of a problem with the supplier over this, the helmet just kept fogging up between the insert and the visor. The opposite of what it was supposed to do. They eventually fixed this in the UK by sending out a proper pinlock inset, made by pinlock for the visor. They tried to save a few dollars but it bit them in the ass! I agree the helmet is up their or nearly there with respect to the comfort compared to an Arai, the Arai however is still in my mind the King. With regard to the com's system I've had nothing but problems with it, the one I have just refuses to turn on, I've put a meter over the battery and it's fine. It's been back twice already and requires to be sent back a third time as it stopped working just the other day, very frustrating. I have also found if the lining gets wet at all it smells unpleasant until entirely allowed to dry out. I think they use bamboo in the lining, perhaps it's this. Overall it's a nice helmet but with its flaws. Coms system is rubbish. Get an Arai Quantum ST and a Cardo pack talk.

I utilized the C-4 for a NYC - Los Angles - NYC ride. I did about 6000 miles. The trip was about 8-days. I found that the helmet did not fit my head. I actually had to take out part of the lining so that the helmet would be comfortable. The ventilation was just adequate....nothing exceptional. The audio and communication system was excellent. I think that the audio was not loud enough to adequately be heard when speeds are above 65 mph. The visibility was excellent. The battery life was excellent. There were 12-hour days on my journey with no issues with battery life. I think the helmet is a good design but the shape of this helmet is not for everyone. If the fit is poor this helmet can be very painful to wear. One other small feature that may be a problem. The battery in the helmet slot may have play in it causing intermittent connection breaks. I think the concept of this helmet is excellent but the execution of design still needs improvement. For my next cross country trip I will look for another helmet. The C-4 will not be taken on my next trip. This has been my honest experience. I hope the new model makes improvements on its shortages. Like I stated before it's a good concept.....but it has not been manufactured to perfection. It could be made better.

Thanks Chris, I think the C4 Schuberth fits great. My concern is I took a trip for a week about 3600 miles and when I was up above 50-60 MPH my microphone would get static and my buddy would just get garbled sound. Have you heard about this from the Sena built in system with the C4?
@kiki2310005 жыл бұрын
This is a good question and i do have some experience. First off, i find that the microphone output to the other riders is not as good as a traditional boom. The location in the helmet is up beside the the cheek pad. That being said, i have experienced the same problem, but it's intermittent. We tried a few things, and the biggest contributor is wind-noise entering the helmet, so i make sure the shield is always closed when communicating. Additionally, if the quality is lower at distance, we try reconnecting, and have had some luck with that. All that being said, i think that is one shortfall of the SC1.

Thanks Chris, I truly like your videos. In my initial comment I tried to put forward my thoughts on the C4 plus SC1 com's system after living with it for just over 12 months. Like you I think the helmet is very good with a great aperture and the sun visor is very useful. However I purchased the helmet to pair up with the nav vi on my K1600, the fact the com's set was integrated was a selling point for me. Initially the cheap knock off pinlock inset Schuberth supplied with the helmet done the complete opposite of what it was suppose to do, it was useless, a large number of owner's in the UK and Europe complained and eventually they sent out a proper pinlock inset which works great. This however was 9-10 months down the line. The SC1 com's kit is OK when working, I emphasise when. My helmet is in Germany just now getting it's third com's set fitted this time they are going to replace the internal wiring and face frame as I have already posted. To sum up it's a good designed let down by substandard parts, frustrating to have to send it back and forth to Schuberth time and again. Schuberth have come out with a second generation of the helmet, perhaps better to wait and get one of those if you are in the market failing that the BMW lid, Shoei or Arai with the Palktalk. On a final note the helmet tends to smell bad if the lining gets wet, bamboo! They have changed the lining on the new version also. I hope this helps. Keep up the good vids Chris.

My helmet is back with Schuberth as I type, they are going to change out the "face frame" their wording and all the com's system wiring. I posted a true review of ownership for 12 months in the comments; it seems to have been removed, I added a part later about the chin vent on a second post which is still up! I thought we were trying to help each other.

My wife and I both have Arai full-face helmets (Signet-X). This summer I bought her a BILT Techno 2.0 modular (Sena provisioned) because she gets a little claustrophobic in full face. Oddly she has a XS in the Arai and I have an L. Anyway, her modular is reasonably comfortable for me to wear for shorter rides, and I quite like the practicality of such a lid, especially in the summer. I do get hotspots eventually in the BILT, but then, I was quite surprised it fit me at all. So now for cooler weather, and rides of any duration, I'm back to wearing the Arai, to which my 20S+ and both of my cameras are mounted. I consider that "home". But I'm in the market this winter for a modular, on that fits. Recently you were extolling the virtues of the Sena (branded), and now you seem to be extolling the C4. Is that only because it is a bargain? To put it another way, which would you recommend regardless of price?

Ben Stabile there is quite a difference in MSRP between the C4 and the INC helmet. The INC helmet does a better job of managing noise and the intercom seemed to be easier to manage with the bigger buttons. The C4 is better in fit and comfort. The noise control on it didn’t seem to make any difference compared to the Sena. I bought the Sena INC to be my passenger helmet and I bought the C4 to replace my Arai. Comfort is very important. If you are round oval you may want to look at models of helmets other than these two. The INC is intermediate oval and it is great on my head for about 3 hours and then the pressure on my head starts. The C4, like my Arai , never gets sore. So if it’s a modular helmet you want, and you yourself are long oval, then try on the C4.

I would buy this helmet being long ovalish and good looking if it weren't for all the negative comments on the internet. It's on sale for just 400€, but it's still much if it doesn't live up to the reputation of the company. I wonder why it's on sale everywhere being a quite new helmet.
@kiki2310006 жыл бұрын
I think it is on sale everywhere because it is about to be replaced with the C4 Pro. In fact, i was told that when i bought this one. I mention the cons above, but i am otherwise extremely happy with it. Until Arai makes a modular in long oval, this is the only one I found that fits my head.

Thank you for replying. I might take the risk and just order one. All of the bad reviews on Revzilla's site, and on Louis' site [3/5*] (which is huge store in Germany, using Google to translate it) just make me want to think twice about it. www.louis-moto.co.uk/artikel/schuberth-c4-flip-up-helmet/215500/bewertungen?list=4bc01e5bc936b76ccfc04d5788ec8233 Thanks for all of your videos, keep them coming.

That chin vent looks like a complete water trap when its open, I looked at the C4 but ended up going for the Neo 2 which is very noisy compared to Shoei selling it as "the quietest modular helmet 2018"
@kiki2310006 жыл бұрын
rick burgess actually the vent doesn’t collect any more water than any other chin vent from my experience. The panel sits proud of the chin bar and air enters from all around its perimeter. It appears like a tray with a bottom but it’s fully open. When closed it’s sealed up.

Thanks for the review, Chris. Personally, the c4 doesn’t fit me as good as a c3pro. So Saturday I’m getting my third schuberth.

Thanks for the great review. Interesting comment re internal shape. Haven’t found anything that fits my helmet better than an Arai signet. I bought the shoei neotec 2 as I heard the C4 had a round shape. On my ride from Vancouver to San Diego this fall I had a terrible pressure point on my forehead with the new neotec 2. Sounds like I made the wrong choice.
@kiki2310006 жыл бұрын
Well-- i can only say that i cannot guarantee that this will fit you better than the Neo2. I have a Neo(version 1), and it is great other than my forehead. This one disperses its weight across my entire head so it is much more comfortable.

Does Schuberth make the BMW brand helmet or did you have it painted?
@kiki2310003 жыл бұрын
It's funny, I didn't notice that the blue is BMW blue until you mentioned it. Completely skipped my eye. So-- this was the color scheme as I bought it. Currently, it has been superseded in the line-up by the C4Pro, but this blue is not offered.

My new Schuberth helmet starts giving me serious headaches after 15 minutes...there are hard edges inside the pads which push hard into my skin....Schuberth says i had to fit the helmet for 45 minutes before buying, i think that's ridiculous and expected a higher quality product from this German company.

I bought the C4 ,,and after about one hour riding I get a horrible pain on the side of my head,,its the same size as my C3,,I tried modifying ,no success,,so now the C4 stays on the shelf and I,m using my old C3,,regarding the comms,,I resent Schuberth changing from Cardo to Senna,,"WHY"? These two systems are not compatible ,,that fact just sucks....regards

I bought a C4 after wearing it in the store for 30 minutes. On the hour long ride home it started to hurt in a couple of spots on the upper back of my head. Another reviewer said the liner was adjustable, but it isn't"t, and it's very thin. I thought I solved the problem by pushing down the two areas in the helmet that were causing the pain, but over the last few days on a 1700 mile trip I have never had so much head pain. Being Easter weekend, I guess the C4 was my "crown of thorns". It actually felt like someone was turning 2 screws into my head. The second day of the trip, the chin vent cover fell off somewhere and was lost. The C4 pretty much ruined the trip. I never had any problems with my HJC modular helmet with either comfort or quality. Also, opening the top vent makes it considerably noisier. The C4 is going on Craigslist as soon as I get the replacement vent cover. This is the most overrated helmet I have ever owned.
