that was all stuff from an old poem of colonial America it was about a boy who went to slay a dragon called "jabberwok." Bits of English and German and bastardized words went in with it. Also the English vocabulary is vary fluid so most of those were words at some point but don't mean anything anymore.

Kevin also could defeat them by focusing on the box and saying "perfect function." The opposite being "malfunction" which would cause the box to malfunction and be useless.

Depends on how the algorithm tha counters what he says was created, if they only used a dictionary for the words, of used "conventional" incantation as a means of reference, very few outside (and even within) humanity would have any idea how to counter it

The incantations had meaning to Kevin and worked but the box didn't understand and was unable to make a counter incantation.

The shortest distance between two points is not a straight line. Say the universe is a square of fabric. For you to get from one corner of the fabric to another, you must traverse the fabric between the two corners. We just fold the fabric till the two corners touch each other and step over. Easy! Beware the Jabberwock! It could have been worse. He could have introduced them to Dr. Suess!
