And the phrase comes full circle. Common story for the origin of the term "a bug in the system" is that cockroaches and other bugs were attracted to the heat of old computers, crawled over two wires and connected them, causing a data glitch or frying something in the process, hence the errors were mostly just bugs in the system. Edit: The first instance was, indeed, a moth which coined the term, but the phenomenon itself encapsulated a few different bugs and their interactions with burgeoning electronics technology.

So a bacteria that eated metal and just sorta grew in the shop eating power until it got to the point and exploded is what killed the ships. A bacterium that was carried by a popular pet for the alien race and it used in hunting.

Reminds me of a story Admiral Grace Hopper once told. She worked on the Mark 1 computer at Harvard. One day, the computer went down. The tracked the problem down to a moth that had got stuck in one of the relays. After that, when they had downtime and someone would ask what was going on they would say they were debugging the computer.

Yes, give other species Black Boxes and help improve safety for everyone. From the Black Boxes they can find mistakes and hopefully save others in the future. This is a future tale I'd like to see so all intelligent life forms may prosper. Flying light and color producing furry friendly bats like our cats. Will need to wash their pets and get rid of that bacteria or find something that eats the bacteria .

I mean, even normal everyday bacteria in your own digestive system produces small amounts of highly explosive Methane gas. The bacteria on those ships were just making a even more sensitive and powerful explosive by accident. Being light sensitive is not unheard of either for reactive compounds (see film photography), all and all I find it reasonable, just viciously negligent on the Xeno's part
