One thing I LOVED about Kerbal Engineer was that it showed you, in the HUD, what "situation" you were in (high above atmo xyz, low/high space above xyz)... it'd be helpful to have that in the hud vs. in a toggle menu.

In addition to letting the user add more data in a custom window, I hope they take into consideration allowing a toggle in the settings for UI customizing- maybe adds little grab tags to every element floating element for example

@@albertotr1 Or make it so you can go into a menu in the settings that you can change the xy axis of each element and turn on/off any element also. Like if you could change the xy axis of the maneuver buttons (prograde, radial, normal) to be in the middle bottom of the screen and have the staging stack on any of the 4 sides of the screen and of course orient it sideways if it's on the top or bottom of the screen, navball on the far right, etc.

As someone who has been playing Kerbal since the early days. And has been my inspiration for space enthusiasm, I believe It would be cool to add testing experimental parts as missions for science points.... with occasional experimental failures that completely flop., I also think the tiers should be hidden until you get to the ones right before, so that it would be a surprise finding out what you can research.

I remember that in KSP1 it was really hard to figure out what science had been done within your sphere of feasibility. I wanted to set objectives for new missions, but there was no user interfaces where I could see glaring holes that I could use to devise a new mission. There was this KSC science "spam" instructional video that you could do because there were a lot of biomes within the KSC so you would get a lot of science by just repeating a lot of stuff. This gave you a tremendous science boost. However, it was also disheartening because you realized that you would never be able to repeat this procedure everywhere. During the one mission you could keep track of where you had been and such. But if you found that you didn't get full score, you had to repeat the whole thing to find the missing piece(s). I think the research center should show all biomes, atmosphere layers and geological stratas that you have discovered and then show what data/sample/observations/experiments are lacking from any given location. Does KSP2 address this? Can you use the research center to find what you need to do?

Something I often found happening in KSP was constructing some very large missions where in one go you might get many science points and blast through whole sections of the tech tree, which really diminished the time you would take enjoying the challenges or boons of each individual tech, especially at early levels. One way to balance this is with a system similar to eurekas in Civilization 6. Make the techs much more expensive initially, but then counterbalance this with optional objectives for each tech that discount the science required to unlock them back down to normal. Some could be for fun, such as reaching some outrageous G forces to unlock the discount to Reaction Control Systems, or something poignant, like decoupling x value of liquid fuel engines to discount Solid Fuel Boosters (hinting at their role as a cheaper alternative), or something that fits in with the progression of the tech, like doing a Mun flyby to unlock the discount for the Mun Landing tech. All the techs could still be unlocked with simply a large sum of science, but the allure of saving hard earned science points would lead players to complete all these fun little optional objectives helping to control the pacing of unlocking tech.

I agree. For me as a "Tier" I would expect a mission like mun landing or sample return from mun to be able to progress to Tier 2, but maybe they didn't wanted to restrict the use cases we can do with this simple unlock. So as a Tier I would expect something else than an another page of parts. In captain industry/factorio you have to level your science to progress further.

thank you for the cool video! I'm liking the concepts and styles used with the tech tree, the UI is pretty neat, and the tech tree makes sense I think. I love the energy of Tom, would like to see him make more appearances in the future! Nitpicky criticisms of the tech tree that nobody else will care about but me: - Progression is a little strange and sometimes doesn't quite make sense (one example of many: why do you need to research probes before researching ladders? for some speedrunner-style players, they would much rather have ladders and skip over comms, probes, and electrics entirely) - The inclusion of nodes with multiple prerequisites would make a lot of sense (Tiny Engines is cool, but I feel like it should also have the Mun Landing prerequisite, Heavy Nuclear Propulsion could require Nuclear Power, and maybe Xenon Propulsion should also have Durable Power Systems for example. You could also use this to gatekeep science tiers behind having multiple late-stage techs from a tier, which might be good or bad for progression (such as for example if Modular Launchers required Medium Truss Adapters then you could force players to invest in structural science, which could be great or awful)) - It doesn't feel as natural or fitting as the stock KSP1 tech tree, or the community tech tree mod for KSP1 (example: "Mun Landing" doesn't make a lot of sense, since it's not actually attached to the concepts of a mun landing, it just has useful parts. I could probably unlock things past it without ever going to the Mun, or land on the Mun before every unlocking it.) - Descriptions sometimes do not aptly match the contents of a node (Orbital Rocketry has the description "Moar boosters!" despite having one booster and one terrier which makes the description less than useful for new players in telling them what things actually do. it's a funny description but i feel like describing the use cases of the terrier is a little more useful) honestly though these aren't super big issues, and I'm just being super nitpicky. I'm loving this video, I hope to see more in this format, and I can't wait to see what science mode has in store!!
@TlalocTemporal
@TlalocTemporal Жыл бұрын
I think the mobility tech is after the probe tech partly because lining all the introduction techs in a single column would get really tall. Also, lights are bundled with ladders, and probes are bundled with electricity, so the lights have to come after electricity. Maybe electricity should be it's own node? Maybe offsetting them and showing two sets of connections to the starting tech would be better? I think the early techs are set about where you'll use them. A jump in booster capability and vacuum engines is perfect for an orbital mission, and orbital missions are often achieved by strapping moar boosters on, which the included SFB is perfect for. I agree that the terrier needs more representation though. Mun Landing is a landing leg (rather important for a *landing*) a light capsule (in the style of the LEM no less) and a big tank (perfect for any big mission really). These are all parts of central importance to specifically a crewed landing. Sure you can land on the Mun without them, but you can also survive without Survivability, orbit without Orbital Rocketry, and have really powerful launches without Power Launchers. I also would love to see some double requirements. In particular (while I suppose we've had the tech for a while now) xenon propulsion could get unlocked earlier than nuclear, but deeper in the tree.

Ive always thought it would be fun to try and 100% science but ive never wanted to record all the science ive earned manually. It also means you can avoid accidentally doing the same experiments/science when exploring a planet basically making the entire mission useless which can be frustrating in career mode.

you guys need an option to lock down the tech tree from things you've already unlocked. That way instead of asking "can I use this for this challenge", I could simply lock all but the permitted nodes.

It really sums up the whole history of this game to have an excited developer announce it's friday when it's actually thursday due to the company deciding to speed up the product. Wish the best for KSP2 and KSP as a franchise. From what I gather from this video, KSP2 is finally an actual game. Can't wait to try it out again.

In KSP1, there was a mod that allowed parts to be improved using science points (better ISP, more fuel, better heat tolerance, etc), will KSP2, tech tree be able to do that as well to some extent?

Loved KSP 1. But i knew 2 was going to be a buggy mess. I said i wasn't going to buy the game until either career mode or science modee where out and stable. Glad to see that time is almost here.

Thanks for the update. I'm so looking forward to this. I'm one of those people that really struggles with a completely open sandbox to feel motivated to push myself. I have loved KSP 2 so far, but I think the introduction of science and missions will really push me out of my Mun/Duna comfort zone.

I have a small suggestion (well actually 2): the first one is to make the arrow keys pan your camera similar to the way it works in ksp1, because that was how I moved the camera around and it's very annoying pressing the arrow keys because that's what your used to and then suddenly you lose most of your control over the camera with no clear way to bring it back. The second one is likely way simpler then that last one: use the "pause" key on your keyboard to pause the game alongside going to 0x time warp, and also an option to make the menu that shows up when you press escape pause the game too.

I’m so excited for science!!! I’ve played KSP since 2014 but I have a busy schedule so I only have a few hundred hours. I’ve only landed and returned from Dana once or twice. So my home has been deep space Kerbnet satellites and Kerbin moons. Lol. Can’t wait to dive into KSP science. This guy absolutely loves his job! Lol

will we see nuclear pulse or whatever it was called engines integrated with the interplanetary progression at some point in the future of the game?
@IvanRodriguez-tl2zr

I think that the nuclear pulse engine will be integrated with Interstellar travel, as these types of engines would completely trivialize interplanetary travel.

Its nice to see what we will be getting in a few weeks! One thing I would like to point out is that having the deep space methalox engines right before the swerve might make them get overshadowed pretty quickly. Like use them for one mission before moving onto the swerve and never touching again. Also, do we know what post interstellar progression will look like?
@TlalocTemporal
@TlalocTemporal Жыл бұрын
The SWERV might require rare material to manufacture, while the methalox engines will always be good. Specialist vs generalist. Also, we don't have radiation systems in yet, maybe the SWERV will need some shielding?

I'm excited. It's interesting that Tom STILL had to adjust his staging manually for the very basic chutes/decoupler/engine stack. I feel KSP1 did better in that regard. But the science looks good.
@TlalocTemporal

Nah, I always have to move my parachute into the right stage. Also, some people prefer decoupling and engine startup being in separate stages, and others prefer them all at once. The system definitely could use a second look though.
