Excellent video, so the best method to generate electricity in a usable way would be to have a bubble aerator or simple pump moving the water around, peroxide and heat, wonder what you would get with all three at the same time.

does this mean someone could actually make their own really large batteries to use for say housing solar stuff? or can you actually get enough power for that to work?

Hi, I'm doing a science project on this. I wanted to know if, instead of copper and zinc electrodes, would I be able to use copper and zinc bolts? Or any other replacements for the copper and zinc electrodes?

Hi - yes, you should be able to use other parts made from the same metals. Just note that surface area affects the reaction, so you may not get as much current from a narrow-diameter cylindrical bolt as you would from a larger, flat rectangular plate.

Hi! I'm conducting this experiment and when I set my multimeter to amps, the result is always zero 0 no matter what setting the amp reading is on. I'm not sure how to fix this issue, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

no, probably not. old pennies have zinc in them but its illegal to sand the outside edge of copper off. you can buy zinc washers for $0.10 at lowes, and a giant zinc nail for $0.50

We haven't tried this project with sea water, so we can't say for sure, but that would make a good experiment!

yes but sea water is not 100% salt+water, there are other minerals but yes you can. you may have to clean electrodes if the voltage goes down.

Hi - these buzzers are available for a variety of voltages, 5VDC is common.

That's an interesting question! Generally, saltwater batteries are rechargeable if they have a reversible chemical reaction. A question that came to me now was: what if we take several Daniell batteries (those that are submerged in water and salt) and connect them in series, like 8 cells in a circular format, in which we interconnect the circuit with another cell of the same type as the others, Where would electrolysis occur? Like, where would the top of the electrical potential (anode) be? Sorry if the writing was bad, I don't speak English and I used a translator.

Hi - voltage is a potential difference defined between two points. This means that to measure voltage at any point in a circuit you must first choose a reference point that you define as zero volts. Normally in a circuit with a single battery, we choose the negative terminal of the battery as zero. So for example if you have a circuit with a single 9V battery and define the negative terminal as 0V, then the positive terminal would be +9V relative to your reference. However, you could just as easily define the positive terminal as 0V, and then the negative terminal would be -9V relative to the reference. The same applies if you continue connecting batteries in series (and eventually loop them back around in a closed circuit) - you can choose any point in the circuit as the reference voltage.

Basically it goes like this: imagine you have a circle like this: (all are Daniell cells in an aqueous medium) + - + - - □□□□ + + □ □ - - □ □ + + □□□□ - - + - + each small square represents a cell, now imagine that they are all connected in series, how would we know in which cell the electrolysis will occur? for example: I have an incomplete square like this: + - + - + □□□□ - □ +□ - □ □□□□ + - + - And now we close it with another cell like this □□□□□| + □ | □ □ □ | □□□□□| - (Imagine that (|) are the wires.) The electrolysis of the middle cell will be carried out because I connected the point of highest potential with the lowest using this cell, so this cell remains something external to the battery. In other words, electrolysis occurs in the place where the electric current began to pass So there is another question: if I separate the two parts of the battery [ ] and put them together at the same time [ ] , where will electrolysis occur? After all, I started the electric current at 2 points. I'm sorry if I don't understand and again: thanks for responding.

A galvanic cell will eventually reach a state of equilibrium. You can test different types of salts besides sodium chloride to see how they impact the chemical reaction, for example Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate).
