I started with the „Meatless Monday”/ I had one meatless day a week. This was because my dad found out how much better it would be for the climate, just having one meatless day a week. We started by just replacing the meat 🥩 in burgers 🍔, lasagne, pizza 🍕, pasta dishes etc with some plant-based/vegetarian options. After I while, doing that, we found out how good it actually tastes, and also which of the alternatives we liked and disliked. Now we wanted to have more meatless days, and just kind of doing what we already did, just 2-3 times a week. I then, mostly through KZbin and Netflix (fx TED’s videos and the series “Our Planet” , found out how bad climate change really is, and felt bad about eating meat 🥩. In that period my dad just started cooking more plant-based foods, also because this was now the most familiar to us, and we rather wanted it than meat. We now ate meatless 4-6 times a week. So actually, now it was switched around, and we mostly had only had one day in the week eating meat. So we were almost vegetarians. At that time I still drank milk 🥛 and ate yoghurt because I thought this would be the best for my growth (I’m 14). But then I watched Game Changers, and discovered this channel, learned some more, and decided to go vegan 🌱. I have been vegan 99% of the time for a month now and have replaced “normal” yoghurt with Alpro yoghurt, and milk 🥛 with alternatives like Oat-drink, Soy-drink, “Ricedrink”, and a pea-based drink. I’m not a “religious” vegan, so I don’t follow it 100%, but my diet is plant-based. This whole “journey” took me 1 1/2 years 😁

I had similar experience with tofu as the doctor had with the steamed broccoli. I was never a fan of tofu but, as a relatively new vegan, I begrudgingly tried tried preparing it following an online recipe for the nutritional purpose. As I was cubing it, I grabbed a piece and popped it in my mouth and actually enjoyed it! Soon I found myself popping a whole lot in my mouth and had to force myself to save some for the recipe. I’ve got a few good tips that helped this Italian raised “foodie” transition. Choose any local authentic Ethiopian, Asian or Middle Eastern restaurant nearby and try ordering unfamiliar vegetarian or vegan appetizers , sample platters, or entrees. I’m sure I’m missing several, but many countries have absolutely delicious cuisines that already omit animal proteins, or at least meat. However, the descriptions don’t always seem tantalizing…ask for recommendations from the staff if you’re stuck. Once you know the names of the dishes you enjoy, look for a whole food plant based recipe online, or try to convert it yourself. Homemade cashew cream takes just minutes to make once the raw, unsalted cashews are soaked in water for a few hours. Just drain and blend until creamy. Make it as thick or thin as your recipe needs by adjusting the amount of water. One more for sausage lovers… find a recipe for your fav sausage - the revision I have of The Joy of Cooking has some, pulse some meaty mushrooms, may throw in a small handful of soft or soaked nuts in your food processor with the spices and sauté together to get a flavorful replacement. It won’t stick together but can be used on pizzas, in pastas, soups, stews, and sautées. I don’t miss the meat or cheese at all anymore….there was a time I was sure that was an unattainable goal. Good luck!

Here is a way to add variety to your salads. I use some of the pureed soups that are in cartons. They do not require cooking, so I add them cold. I then combine with salsa, or fat free dressings, and or mustard. Hummus goes great with salad, especially on toast. Your idea of adding fruit is good too. I especially like oranges for the tang and sweetness to balance the vinegar in dressings. The vitamin C will help absorb any iron in your salad.

One video led to the next. Even though I did NOT have the intention of improving my diet three days ago, because of videos like this one, I decided over the weekend to make three changes to my diet this week: eat more fruit, eat oatmeal for breakfast, and eat at least three vegetarian dinners this week. My aim is to gradually increase the proportion of my diet that is healthy. I find it empowering to know that this process can be as slow and easy as I want it to be. Veganism appeals to the ignorant who are far removed from nature and who do not research beyond the headlines. If diet can reduce risk of modern industrial diseases CVD, Alzheimers, Autoimmune, Diabetes, Cancers then surely that diet would look something like that of pre-industrialisation of foods and nothing like the heavy carb, sugar, omega 6 seed oil that form the basis of a vegan diet. The health argument for veganism is ridiculous, and so is the environmental justification when you look for actual evidence. It's a dogma that sweeps up the young and impressionable and the low IQ.

Great video that covers a lot of ground. I like that you tell people to question you and do there own research although many people (such as myself) lack the background to do proper constructive research on these things. For the most part our research would result in us finding other people's opinions rather than reading scientific journals. The polarised conversation around The Game Changers seemed like clear indication of how many people are fully subject to their own biases and/or suffer from Kruger Dunning syndrome. Personally, I'd like to say I could do the research but the truth is I'm just guessing whose opinion I should put a little trust in. Your advice seems balanced and thoughtful so I take it into consideration when "planning" my diet. I may impliment some things and see how sustainable they are and if there are any noticeable changes my general health.

When i found out about caloric density, that was the tipping point. Within a month, i switched from 90% animal products to 90% plants. I've avoided bad and sugary foods as well as eating more plants for a year or two now and I have to tell you who is reading this comment that the idea of craving bad foods is nonexistent anymore. It is not even that the crave is not there, it can even be the opposite. When I eat Kale now I enjoy the taste. When I eat vegetables and healthy food it taste better and I enjoy it way more then something bad. So if you are in that other spot then know this that your taste WILL change.

I bought a whole bag of dried strawberry slices the other day and there's only 45 calories in the entire bag. A single digestive biscuit or cookie has more calories than that. Anybody can include a large amount of fruit and vegetables in their diet and it won't affect calories or blood sugar. But too many people now days are terrified of eating fruit, even though many fruits raised metabolism and help with blood sugar control. A few berries in oatmeal is a great way to get a steady supply of energy in the morning without spiking blood sugar.

I'd add kale or other greens to my smoothies. I found even though I could barely taste those flavors that just adding them in small amounts got my tastebuds used to it. Been whole foods vegan for probably 8 years now and I can't have a meal without veggies. Great video. After I watched the Game Changers documentary I immediately went plant based. Im adding fish 1-2 times a week because it makes it easier to eat with my wife if we eat out. One thing u mentioned about not being so strict about counting calories, fiber, vitamins, minerals, etc, is really validating. I don’t like counting calories and am trying to eat from all sources as u recommend. Since I hadn’t eaten red meat for about 40 years and only added chicken and turkey back about 4 years ago, the transition isn’t that bad. Thank u for all the information u provide. Great job 👏🏽!

Great video. Smoking vegetables using natural wood is a simple way to add depth of flavor. We've heard of chipotle peppers, which you can do, but I also smoke my tomatoes in a smoker and then can them for vegan stews. You can short smoke vegan scalloped potatoes to keep them warm ahead of a meal and it adds a ham flavor. Eggplant is already pretty bitter so I would recommend a short smoke after it grilling.

I have been a vegetarian for 30 years. I find many videos online focus on being a vegetarian or vegan but address the issue as a fad or about being the in thing. The one thing I strongly believe is if a person decides to change it should be not for a fad or being the in thing. It makes it easier to make the change. Plus, the body resents changes. Part of having a change is learning about respecting one's body. One has to do the research such in the video it addresses the issue of some vegetarians/vegans lacking vitamin B12. When I decided to become a vegetarian due to ethical ideas relating to the environment I did a lot of research. The video is well done. Kudos.

Your taste and smell does change, maybe even becomes better to the point where animal based products start smelling weird, kind of like you can smell the death. Also high fat, sugar and salt become more noticeable in taste when you eat them less and to me that made things not taste as good, now I could taste the high fat content in it. And as you say, veggies become like candies and that also counts for fruit. It's incredible. My dad noticed his taste and smell also became way better after eating more plant based, to the point that unhealthy foods became less and less appealing and a plate full with green asparagus and sautéed mushrooms brings the biggest smile to his face, while saying "I could eat this every day".

I have been doing sports for 25 years (martial arts, boxing, wrestling, powerlifting, bodybuilding) and have a lot of muscle mass. For decades I have forced myself to eat a lot of animal products because I thought that this would be necessary to be big and strong. Turned vegan 9 months ago and I bacame leaner, gained muscle mass and gained 10 pounds while reducing body fat eventhough I am already 38 years old. And I enjoy eating a lot more now. It was really easy to turn vegan and I have not even once missed animal products.

Went vegan overnight. Clear boundaries helped me focus on the diet fully and not waste time and energy on 'will I/wont I?'. Had I done it slowly I wouldn't be the healthy and happy vegan I am, nigh on 10 years down the track. My 'reasons' helped a lot. Once I understood the damage participating in the food system I had been was causing to my body, the planet and the animals, it was easy to no longer participate in it. Dr Will Tuttle was my enlightener. Peace does not come from violence. Has there been challenges? You bet!! Still are but what I have gained on nearly every level, physical and mental health, a lightness of being and spiritual calmness, and a deepening connection and respect for all life make it well worth the journey.

it's important to supplement with b12 and d3 (everyone needs these two vitamins...not a fan of the sun for the latter...as it accelerates aging and does dna damage.. I'm a religious sunscreen user as well...okay not religious.. but that's what I aim for) I also take a multi ...cuz I'm busy ...so just to make sure that I'm safe...i pop in a multi... I also take iron when I'm on my periods ...

I went 100% whole food plant based for health reasons and it change my life for the better. Went on to become a plant based nutritionist to support it. After 8 years I could never go back... Look at the 5 blues zones, the longest lived people in the world, the are predominantly whole plant based. Wen you get the hang of it, you'll find tat food tastes better.. I would compare it to when you quick smoking and can taste food again.

That is great to hear. 6 years ago, at age 48, I did the same. I'm far healthier and fixed my high LDL. I still need to stay on top of diet but now it's possible to maintain a healthy weight, unlike before. Several other issues were corrected permanently. Blue zones are an important part of history and show that a healthy diet without nearly as much chronic disease can be accomplished.

Great video. Have been heavily plant based since 2011 and at 36 years old feel great. I would love to see a video addressing Dr.Gundry’s The Plant Paradox. And as a first year medical student, I really appreciate your objective non-emotionally charged videos that are far more educational and encouraging. As a future MD, I’ll spend a good bit of time in and out of work discussing the importance of food to health. Keep up the great work!

Dr Gundry doesn't exactly look like the healthiest guy to me. I've watched a bunch of his content cause I like getting different views. Based on hearing all the differing opinions I've decided the whole foods plant based approach seems to make the most sense and has the most solid science and documentation. The carnivore and keto world seems to be highly cherry picked with a ton of holes in it. I'm also not an activist and my reasons for deciding on a diet are health focused. Probably why I don't eat twinkies and vegan garbage. I have watched some of the slaughter house documentaries and I'm not a fan of how the animals are treated but the other concern that stuck out for me was the unsanitary condition in slaughter houses. The festering wounds and rusty dirty tools they are using on our "food" is pretty disturbing to be honest.

Buy a vegetable you've never had before! How amazing! I've been doing that and now I hear you recommending that :) I became vegan 4 months ago and I experience bloating. Glad to know it's normal and my gut is getting used to the new diet. I grow my own herbs and have tons of dried spices I bought at the supermarket. It is KEY to making plant food delicious and healthy. Love the advice!

You are not denying yourself pleasure, your cravings naturally change (with little or no effort). Suddenly you realize you are craving slices of toaster-oven baked sweet potato as if they were brownies. You are dusting them with powdered ginger and/or cinnamon just for the hell of it. You are tossing minced, raw garlic/broccoli/onion on savory dishes. Chili (fresh or ground) goes with savory food but also on fruit! Carob is not chocolate, but it is sweet and delicious on fruits or oats. Pumpkin seed goes with anything. I eat so many more things now that I'm vegan compared with my days as an omnivore. And cacao, oooooh cacao!

A main reason people don't switch to vegan is they think all they will eat is grass or bland oats and such, not knowing tastes acclimate.

Really excellent summary. I'm already there, after reading and watching a lot of documentaries and KZbin, such as Michael Greger, Neal Barnard etc. I gave up Meat and Dairy easily and went plant based. For me it was dead easy. I had allthe info I was convinced and I havent looked back. or slipped. I dont miss meat and cheese at all. In fact I look at them as poisons for the body and cant even contemplate eating them any more although i still occasionally eat a bit of fish so I still need to wean myself off that yet. I take 2000 micro gr Cyanocobalamin every Monday morning and i eat an Orange every day and have a mixed brain + seed porridge for breakfasr every morning with fortoified Soya milk, Barberries and alternating 7 dates or 5 figs

Ate heaps of sugar and candy as a kid, plain rolls, roll ups and shapes for lunch, mum and dad always cooked microwaved steamed veggies and low grade frozen food for dinner. I had low energy, body image issues, socially anxious and had symptoms of depresson and didn't even realise it. Now I eat lots of smoothies, oats, beans, poke bowls, jackfruit, nuts and spices, etc. To cut the story short I now love cooking and my body and what I put in it, I am confident with who I am and never had so much energy in my life (25 yrs)

A year and a half ago I bought a Vitamix blender, I work nights, when I wake up I make a healthy smoothie with vegetables and fruits. The rest of my meals were eggs, eggs, more eggs, and bacon, plus dairy. I had cut down considerably on pasta, and bread. I watched the movie Game Changer, and I decided to move towards a plant based diet. So glad I found this channel, so many vegetarian diets replace meat with bread, pasta, and processed foods that are no better than meat, just lacking the animal cruelty aspect. This is one of the few that promotes healthy alternatives to meat. I am so glad you are non-biased, now if I could find a news source that isn’t biased, and agenda driven. I did buy the How Not to Die cookbook, the best thing in it is the green, yellow, red part that you give to food, it has helped me avoid the temptation to eat bad food, I even apply it to other life choices as well.
