This isn't news. It's been known for decades that the two sides of the rift valley are moving away from each other. Evidence, including samples of lava, imply that it is continental drift, which is no surprise at all.

" fortunately this does not occur instantly" like it did. And we can be confident that it will take millions of years because we've seen this happen before, we watched it for the whole millions of years that it occurred before and we can tell you exactly how it's going to turn out with confidence, or we're just showing confidence to stop people from being concerned, even though it looks like something to be concerned about.

How can scientists be so ignorant? I was raised in that area since I was 10 and used to visit the place since I was born. It is where my mom was born and raised. We have both watched the vegetation in the area being cleared to create space for settlements and farm lands. I promise you that this has NOTHING to do with faulting but the lack of vegetative cover to hold the soil together. Otherwise it wouldn't be taking place during the rainy season and especially congruent to the direction of the flow. the soil here is very loose and is often mixed with construction sand (young guys harvest it commercially). So, with no vegetation cover the soil will just be swept away by the flood. That being said, these are new GULLIES rather than FAULT LINES. Visit the place and you will see the enormous gullies that have been there for hundreds if not thousands of years.

Possibly due in part to the moving Earth's magnetic field? While not all matter is considered magnetic, all matter can be affected by magnetism due to the magnetic fields around the moving electrons in matter. The Earth's magnetic field is supposed to be at it's weakest around 2035 according to the last chart I saw. Possibly on it's way to another Earth's magnetic field flip. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. Supposedly it doesn't always flip. But, if your magnetic compasses point in a different direction than usual, that's probably why.

This is so interesting. Humans have only realized the fact that continents sit on moving plates about 60 years ago. I remember in 1958 when I was in 1st grade at school noticing on a world map that Africa and South America looked like they could fit together and told my teacher that bit of naive wisdom to which she said "Oh no, they've always been right where they are." LOL I was right and she was wrong. Even a child could see they had split off where they had once been together. If we had a time machine and could see the planet in 5 million years from now, the land masses would look a bit different. They move about as fast as your fingernails grow, but give them millions and billions of years and they move significant distances. India was once part of Africa too. Wonder if this new split off from Africa will move east or northeast and ultimately join India. Sad that humans living today will never know.
@rhondah15876 жыл бұрын
Leopard It was 1958 honey. Even the geologists hadn't figured it out well enough to proclaim that there were tectonic plates and that they moved at that time. That knowledge is quite recent.

Supposedly it doesn't always flip. But, if your magnetic compasses point in a different direction than usual, that's probably why. Concerning India, as far as I am aware, that plate is moving north and India will basically shrink. Seems like they should have an active program to add land mass to their southern land areas to maintain their country as well as increase their land mass for all the population living there. At least that is what I'd be doing.

I'm a bit younger than you, but I remember going to school in the early 90s and being told the same as you. Although, I went to Catholic school so was taught creationism.
@rhondah15876 жыл бұрын
Brian Baratheon I am a bit surprised that a catholic school taught creationism -- not really. I do know that the Roman Catholic Church's position is that evolution is a fact, they just twist it up by saying Gawd picked some point where souls started being inserted. LOL They were trying not to get caught denying strongly evidenced science like they did with Galileo Galilei's championing of heliocentrism and Copernicanism. That was almost as embarrassing as all those priests fiddling kiddies.

@wendyalexander53426 жыл бұрын
Wolf No, there are sink holes in Florida because the ground is unstable. It's all sand. And when they go, it's because if the grounnd is getting weaker because the Ocean creates caves beneath the ground and they wear away.
@wendyalexander53426 жыл бұрын
Wolf True, but they said it is a Big debate! And it is. The rains drenched the ground and earthquakes or the plates are shifting. They are debating!
@madboyreadynow286 жыл бұрын
Why is it that we fail to see the obvious? We call erosions like this a sinkhole this is happening all over the planet. The earth is dying. Sure this may be normal but even my front yeard use to be a healthy beautiful lawn. I take good care of it and I saw my yard slide down to the side walk and the dirt turned into a sand like matter. It was very odd. The roots of the trees begin to show and I had to remove both trees. When the Earth is softening and withering away it’s not a good sign.
