Author of the first story here! Boy am I glad to make my debut on the channel, as this was one of my first inspirations to actually take up writing on the subreddit. Agro did a fantastic job of bringing out the emotions I'd hoped would come through. And yeah, fire just has this. . . sort of allure to it. I actually loved watching that in The Outer Wilds (I think that's what it's called? With the weird planets and 28 minute time limit or something before system destruction?). I mean... it's fire. How can fire NOT be pretty? Or entrancing? Or amazing to watch? It just... engulfs. Converts all to fire. It's so dangerous. But, it's also insanely useful. It is basically the same as us. The first time I ever heard this song back in the late 70's when I was a young football player in high school. We would chant this before the game while putting on our gear. It not only hyped us up, but reinforced the feeling of brotherhood we had with each other. And after the game, if we won we would chant again, but then we would sing the song that goes with it. We are the champions! The song, "We will rock you", transcends race, status, and economics. It is both a song, and a war chant. Some years later when I was an adult. I joined the U.S. Army. Again this was our chant of brotherhood, and dedication to accomplish the mission. And now as an old man, this chant. This song. The slap slap thump still gets the blood flowing. This story is told from the human ally perspective. There is another story recently posted from the alien enemy perspective. It tells the story of how that slap slap thump triggers the post traumatic syndrome response from those who have fought the Terrains. Both excellent stories.

Can confirm the military uses music for hype, and other reasons. Back in the 80s, I heard on the news that to get Noriega out of compound, they demoralized him and his troops by blasting the loudest rock music they could at his headquarters. It worked. Then there's the classic fictional case of Apocalypse Now, where they played Flight of the Valkyries from speakers on the helicopters. And would quite possibly have xenos performing their species equivalent of peeing themselves -watching two groups of humans attacking each other in absolute, total, berserker killing frenzy - while both are singing in fearless defiance. Yeah, the movie didn't exactly hold to historical accuracy ( the above scene didn't actually happen; Pvt Hook wasn't a malingerer; the color Sgt WAS if anything even more awesome than depicted - but he wasn't a 6ft 2 strapping bull of a man with a giant mustache - but was actually aboutv5ft 3, and maybe 160 lb soacking wet ) But it gave a "feel" to that battle. Roarke's Drift battle resulted in more VC awards than any battle in British history since. More than a couple *wars* since. And that Zulu charge into massed British fire. Terrifying.
