The Bionic Woman (Lindsay Wagner) is terrorised by the devious ALEX7000 supercomputer when she tries to shut down a doomsday device created by a scientist who plans to blackmail the world into lasting peace.
From The Bionic Woman Season 2 Episode 13 'Doomsday Is Tomorrow' - Jaime poses as a French physicist to get close to a scientist (Lew Ayres) who has invented a doomsday device with the intent to blackmail the world into lasting peace.
The Bionic Woman (1976 - 1978): Jaime Sommers suffers a fatal accident and is reborn as a bionic woman and a government secret agent who struggles to find her way back to a normal life.

Terrific episode. This scene scared me as a kid too. Alex is a bit cheesy, and yet the multi-stage setup would become a trope for video games in later years. The adventure is exciting and Jaime perseveres. Great cinematography for the time as well

Alex's very flat affect and Jamie's extreme emotions always messed me up whenever I watched this episode. The contrast really created excellent a strong dramatic tension. I also love a journey, so the multi-stage set up where Jamie had to use her wits to conquer obstacles was literally like sweet treats for my eyes, you were never quite sure if she would be defeated. Totally in my top ten Bionic Woman episodes, that and anything with a Fembot! #🤖

@@brianvincentdoucet4273 HAL the malevolent computer in Stanley Kubrick's '2001'. And the answer is yes (although 2001 was made before Doomsday is Tomorrow of course) ALEX was explicitly modelled on him.

2001 Space Odyssey came out in 1968 and the Bionic Woman episode aired January 1977, so I would assume that ALEX would be a later version.

Clever way they pointed out the difference from processing data patterns and being conscious of them including the physical sensations. Also when Alex says ‘I exist’ from conceptual language patterns like chat GPT does. Considering how much still today there’s such confusion on generative AI or pseudo ‘emotional’ robots, that was a smart remark, also considering it was in the late seventies, before Tron, the WOPR, Skynet, etc…

I watched this show years ago on DVD (and one or two episodes on TV), but I can't remember this episode. If I'm not mistaken, an episode of "The A-Team" was filmed here; likewise Part 2 of "V: The Final Battle".
