You are the FUCKING MAN!!! I did it. The transponder came out pretty easily, but the chip took some elbow grease. I had to use pliers, utility knife, and some other tools to cut and trim away the plastic housing, but it worked like a charm. You saved me $293.. Keep it up!

So I just replaced my key thanks to your video! I spent $4 via ebay and got it cut for free at Home Depot given I made a mess trying to get the chip out but I got it out and my new keys works like new! Thank you so much for saving me $245!! You rock dude!

Thanks!!! I prayed and was super nervous attempting to remove the chip, but thank god the plastic shell basically peeled off. I used a sharp pairing knife and inched it along the slot. Successfully removed the chip without breaking it! Awesome!

Thanks for the video man. Even after getting the new key cut exactly like the original OEM key, does it have a hard time being inserted and removed from the ignition? Also does the plastic of the new key feel like the old OEM one or does it feel cheap and like it’s going to break soon?

Adam Smith yeah usually they take a light wire brush wheel and grind it down just a tiny bit so it goes into the ignition a little bit easier, you can probably do it by hand just go lightly and grind it down gradually and keep testing it in the ignition to see if it goes in easier, also note: make sure you wipe off all metal debris before inserting in the ignition.

Well, my housing already split, but the transponder doesn't seem to come out easily. I wasn't sure if it needs a little elbow grease to get It out, or if it comes out on its own. Also, the same with the chip. If I used a hair dryer and heat it up a bit, would that work?

yeah you can try heating it up to get it out, i honestly just broke it out just be careful to not brake the actual chip it self though, i had a completely new key to put it in so i just broke it out of the shell. JUST BE VERY CAREFUL!

Really appreciate the video man! Because my Scion tC key fob is all kinds of broken haha One quick question: I'm going to be buying that exact same key fob replacement you showed in the video. Did you have to take the replacement to anyone that cuts keys or did you have to take it to the dealer for that?

Yeah you have to bring that to the dealer ship to get it cut. I used to work at one.

Im not completely sure, you actually may be able to go to a lock smith to get it cut, I just happened to work at a dealership who could cut it, I would call a dealer and ask how much and then call a locksmith and ask them too, as long as you have the old key with you they may beable to duplicate it

i used a razor and split the case of the key in 2, you can also use a thin small flat head screw driver.

OG-Chazzy I got a blank key and got it cut, then just transferred the chip over to the newly cut key. The reason for this is because the key blade itself is glued into the key fob and usually the key fob cracks and breaks right where the blade attaches to the key fob casing. So in order to have a nice new looking and functioning key, I would get a blank key online, take it somewhere to get it cut ( they need a Toyota specific or equivalent key cutter machine ) to do this, usually dealerships and locksmith shops can do this for you. Then you just CAREFULLY transfer the chip out of the old key fob into the new one.

Hopefully you’re still around, I know the vids old. But is it only the chip and little control board? I keep reading transponder, or is that just another word for the chip?

Subaru Chance yes that’s usually another word for the chip/control board. They call it the transponder, or the internals of the key fob.

Autumn Czappa nope the chip is the thing that gets programmed so if you take it out of the old key and put it in new one you should be good

if you really want to go cheap have a regular key duplicate from home depot maybe for less than $2.....then just hold your old broken transponder key next to the regular key when starting the car most locksmith will refuse to cut a transponder key because they want to supply you the expensive key.... or they will charge you about $10 for the same work on a $3 key duplicate.....still cheaper than dealer

Home Depot will cut your blank for free
