Scion XB Serpentine & Power Steering Belt Replacment

In this video I show you how to replace the serpentine belt along with the power steering belt on the 2004-2006 Scion XB. Both belts were purchased from Amazon and I will provide links below to them.

This is the best video on xB belt replacement I've seen. But I learned from others that there is an M8x1.25 hole on the alternator bracket that you can put a bolt in as a prybar point.

The old power steering and drive belt are on. Now when I turn the engine on, right away, the drive belt was singing “Too loose”. So simple to tighten, little strength and effort. Drive belt is tightened and the song is silence. In till we move from the garage to the winter weather. The old power steering belt, after removing the bottom bolt and loosening up the top bolt mm from removing it may have moved the cog or not, slipped off and with determination a new belt was slipped back on. Placed bottom bolt in, tightened top bolt. Left the power steering belt loose and in the warm garage it’s great but when the cold weather and warm engine mix after a few miles the power steering belt reminds me “There’s still work to be done.” I’m grateful for your video and reply. Let it be known when that belt is being tightened those two bolts are both coming out. Hoping for movement of this cog. If it’s not possible there are other garages that we can visit for a helpful hand. Blue Collar Garage keep up the good work.

I keep finding these vids where the alternator has the adjustment, the 09 has a tensioner, and was a nightmare to just change the alt.. sadly today is belt replacement day.

At about 21:14 you can see the alternator bracket has a hole with a nut on the back. That is so you can temporarily put a bolt there and use it to pry against. Then remove the bolt and keep it somewhere for next time. Maybe there is something like that for the power steering pump but I haven't found it.

Can’t move the power steering pulley. Took off the bottom bolt. Routed, to loosen top bolt. And the pulley is stuck in place.

Are you sure you got the top bolt loosened enough?

I had an issue with the top bolt, too. Luckily, I was able to get it to move just enough. Took a lot of strength. Try putting the belt over the pulley with the lip first.

I can't find any ratchet or wrench to reach the top bolt. it has so little clearance between that and the body of the car any advice?

Try a 1/4 breaker bar with a socket

If the ps belt isn’t tight enough it’ll squeak when the ac is engaged.

Respectfully disagree, the power steering belt only goes from crankshaft pulley to the p/s pulley. There is no interaction with the air conditioning compressor's pulley for that belt.
