Correct me if I'm wrong but the only thing the FRS and the supra share is the transmission. FRS has an updated version of the old six speed. Can't wait to get mine. White out with all black wheels and a TRD lowering kit

Those poor tires. Cool video though. Driven a lot of cars. This one is easily my favorite. You can brag about horsepower all day and your master ability to press a pedal down. This thing is so rewarding to know that it was all you on those turns and you beat a car with twice the hp and 4 times the price.

The FA20 is still a very formidable engine. People are already cranking out 400+ whp with it and it's only been out for a year and a few months. Give it some more time. The 2jz has been out since forever!

Nice guess on the price. I am hoping for no more than $22,995 USD for the base 6MT FR-S and something like $24,995 USD for the base 6MT Scooby BRZ. I figure the FRS sits between the tC and the BRZ price-wise and the BRZ has to be cheaper than the WRX.

forget i said that. they probably don't use blow off valve but, instead, replace the turbo often. blow off lags recovery between shifts and why not replace the turbo after every competition if you can afford it...

I heard on video that the Subie has the motor sitting back farther which ment it couldn't get a turbo in it. But if it could bolt right up then thats a win for Subie in that dept, as fr looks Scion has more rigid lines from whats been shown in their slight differences. I like the Scion version better!

Depends on how in depth you care to go with your build. Plenty of 4-cylinders can push more than 400 whp. It's not cheap, but possible.

you're wrong; the heads are designed by yamaha; the d-4s direct injection it is from toyota, and the manual and automatic transmission are built by aisin wich is a company from the toyota group in japan; the automatic transmission it's a modified transmission from the Lexus IS-F, minus two gears.

Any motor running any type of high boost has to be strengthened with forged internals and a strong bottom end. Your friend was probably running too much boost. Plus subaru builds versions of the sti that run well over 300hp.like any motor when adding power boosted or not its all in the combination of parts, the build, and a very good tune.

I agree its a Porsche like chassis, I cant believe most people get stuck on the 200hp. Adding more power is what tuners do, but changing the center of gravity or balancing the car to a 50/50ish split is really tough to do. Thats what they gave us! As for the AWD I had heard (rumor) at the very beginning Subaru had mentionned AWD but ended up droping it because they didnt have the time to adapt the AWD to that frame in the time constraints. But it was all hear say so take it as that 8)

Sway bars I meant to say. But you can always pull more power from an engine than what its factory numbers are. Chrysler claims with the new "470hp"392 all of its Srt8 cars do 0-60 in 5secs.no matter if its challenger or a 4000lbs plus suv.Im pretty sure with free flowing exhaust and heads,cold air intake,a hot cam,and a good tune the boxer engine will make 50 or more hp.and thats being modest.

Stock Subaru motors can't take too much boost. Their blocks are not that strong, it won't hold the boost unless you reinforce the block. I've seen my friend's STI cracked the block and its common too.

Near 50/50 weight distribution allows the car to have neutral handling were the car will not oversteer or understeer and the driver will be able to use this as an advantage because handling will be predictable. Most FWD cars are front heavy and understeer which makes car less controllable and more unpredictable with it handling.

i heard a lot of compressor surge- that's not the sound of the bov, it's the sound of the turbo getting raped by pressure waves bouncing back and forth between the closed throttle plate and the blades on the compressor because the bov isn't opening enough or at all. ANYBODY who has built a turbo car should know to avoid that sound like the plague.

It has a Toyota Aisin gearboxes and the Toyota D-4S dual injection system. But otherwise it is largely Scooby.

wrong, this car was developed by both with Toyota designing the Chassis Design, Suspension, Direct Injection, bore and stroke, while Subaru just built the engine So it's majorly a Toyota, it even has the 2000GT style side windows

It's 16.5% not 30 and its 16.5 of Fuji Heavy Industries, whom own Subaru, that 16.5 makes Toyota the biggest share owner of FHI so it might only be 16.5% but its enough to own them. Toyota had bought 8% off GM in 2005, they got the rest in 2010 and at the time they told Subaru to stop making the minicars they had in Gunma (the now BRZ/FRS/GT86) plant. Second biggest owner is an investment bank in Japan that owns 5.5%.

We are talking about a car that has a 53/47 weight distribution. I rather have a miata or an RX-8 in terms of handling for the price they are asking for the BRZ/FR-S. In terms of power, it definitely lacks, but there are better choices. I rather have a DE 350z vs this. I could even purchase a proper IRS for a 2012 V6 stang with it costing slightly more than the FR-S if one purchased an auto. O well, purchase what you like.

Scion is a sub brand of Toyota for the US. Like Acura is to Honda. The 86gt and the FRS are the same cars.only difference is badge engineering.the brz is a lil nicer and set up for more grip not so much as for drifting like the FRS/86gt.thicker torsion bars are evidence of this.and their is already a sti brz.

I wish this car and its cousin success because I would like to see more like it, also further more the success of this vehicle will probably have a big impact on other car makers producing other similar vehicles like the Chevy Code 130R. If this vehicle isn't a sales success doesn't mean that others are doomed just harder to make a business case for. With that said from reviews and looking at the layout they made a flawed vehicle.

True, but even 400hp in a 4-cyl daily is a bit much if you're worried about longevity. Keep in mind that the moment you do ANY modifications to the car for power gain, it voids the warranty. I don't daily my cars when I'm pushing HP. It kills the mpg and like you said, wears down the engine.
