I had a dear friend with extreme rapid progression scleroderma who was put into an experimental study at the university of Pittsburg. She was given fk507 , later named prograf which was used in transplants as an anti rejection drug. It was miraculous for her and gave her nearly 25 years of life instead of the 2 years she was projected to have. She had numerous incidences requiring hospitalizations but would bounce back. She experienced numerous complications caused by doctor error the worst being the error that caused her to lose her kidney transplant and the second worst caused her to have a chemical peritonitis which meant she could no longer do peritoneal dialysis which she was thriving on. She took a downward spiral that ended in her death just short of 65 years old
