I followed the steps and my scoot still did not start. I put my old CDI back on because the orange one ended up not working because it was AC. This was not giving me spark to my plug. Right as I tested the plug with the CDI that was DC “original cdi” not the aftermarket orange one. My scoot started up. It’s a 2010 Sunny and now it runs and starts very easy even without carb cleaner. To think if I hadn’t rescued the scoot it would have been junked. Keep the scoots alive!!! Thank you!!!!

When I do not have a puller, I put upwards pressure on one side of the flywheel with one of my pry bars and hit the opposite side of the flywheel with a hammer, or putting the flywheel nut back on the crank a few turns and whack it. I have pullers now for all Stihl chainsaws and a 6y6 scooter, so I use them, instead, with my I,pact driver to remove flywheels. Pullers make things much easier.

Enjoyed both the Porno and Ragtime versions of the theme song in the background. But the OEM 8-Bit Atari version is the best. And you're right, the last unrecommended method is terrible. It's an expensive part to mangle if it turns out not to be the problem, and it can be difficult to know with absolute certainty that the stator is bad.

hi Garrett a bit of your time please? I've got a no spark issue on my 50cc TaoTao GY6 I couldn't find my meters!!!!!so I ordered the cheaper and easier parts to replace first haha. the CDI the starter coil or ignition coil and new spark plug . while waiting for the weeks for the parts to arrive and then install them I watched tons of videos yours is awesome thank you by the way!!! and I also found my meters so I was able to test the stator. the voltage test on the pickup coil tested bad there was no reading at all but the ohms was good reading. and thank goodness the Exciter coil tested good also on both ohms and volts is it also referred to as a charge coil?. because I don't have a stator puller and I don't have an impact driver I was really happy I didnt have to replace that! but!!!...now I think I might have to! I installed the pickup coil hooked the wiring backup and went to start the bike and oh no!!! it cranked a few times and that was it!and now it does nothing! the flywheel refuses to budge! I can't turn it by hand and of course I tried to kick-start it and no can't do that either! I couldn't see where you were placing the wire casing on the pickup coil, but when I was installing mine I could not tighten it down without the Gap going way out of Gap!! I had the wire casing running between both the bolts at first so I moved it over to the left of the bolt and it tightened down just perfectly and it's within Gap but do you think that wire casing is strong enough to jam up the flywheel from turning from having moved the wire to where it's at now? I didn't think of that until I just now watched your video so no I haven't gone out and looked at my bike yet cuz it's dark and late of course lol or...and here's where this gets stupid! before I moved the wire over to the left of the Bold my friend suggested adding a nut to see if it would tighten down and stay in gap but he dropped the damn nut!!! it's i nowhere to be found anywhere! and I have a super bad feeling that nut went behind the flywheel and the the magnets are holding it in there and jamming that flywheel tight! what do you think?if it is the nut I'm going to end up having to get a flywheel puller anyways which I was avoiding like the plague and since I have 6500 miles on the scooter I might as well replace the stator while I'm in there! lol! but please Garrett let me know if it could be anything else but the two things I mentioned about jamming up that flywheel?I've done a lot of work on my bike all by myself getting this no spark issue resolved it never had a problem before this!except for a flat tire haha and that flywheel always spend freely up until the point that I installed that pick up coil I'm really looking forward to hearing back from you soon

Thank you for the video. I have a problem still. The brake lights were supposedly fixed by the mechanics. The bike worked for a little bit but while driving it stopped working and then started back up again. It worked again for a little while and then stopped. I charged the battery but still the bike was literally dead. A week or so later it turned on again but stopped again mid drive and wouldn't turn on at all. There are no break lights at all. Everything is dead on it, literally everything. I tried bypassing the stator relay but that didn't work. The battery is 100% fine. If you have any idea what could be wrong please let me know.

Garret, What about the gap between the pick-up and the flywheel ? you didn't mention anything about it...what should it be, is it critical, how do you check ? Also the number of poles on a stator...6, 8, 11, etc. What is the difference, etc ? Great video...i ask these questions, not because i know the answer...actually because i suspect the stator is why my scooter won't start when hot...when i did some checks on it with my meter, they didn't match up with the results another video said i should have. anyway, preparing to swap out my stator and those are real questions that i don't know the answer to. Watched this video when it came out. Now today I have a 125 Buddy that isn't generating spark. Well maybe once every 100 tries since quitting and then it runs for two seconds and dies out again. I took out the stator and it was filthy and also rusty inside the flywheel. Cleaned it to no avail. I think it's pooched. So I'm broke. There's an abandoned scooter near me ( Amway not sure of the cc ) . Would it's stator work temporarily on mine until I can afford the $144+ for a replacement assembly? To be honest I'm going to try it anyway but I am at my wits end with this thing. I changed the left brake lever and piston vacuum in the carb while it had a bad rear tire. It started and ran in place but took 2 - 3 seconds to cut out from the kill switch even with removing the key! Then later in the week I changed the tire and it ran for about a block and now has no spark! So downbeat right now.

Hello. Great video mate thanks!. I am looking for an opinion about my current situation with a mechanic. Recently my scooter stopped working at the side of the road. The lights came on the display, everything normal, but it just would not start. No noise at all. Took it to a mechanic who said they are 99% sure it is the ECU. I bought ECU £360 ( not cheap ). They put it on and said it has got the fuel pump working again but still the scooter isn't working. They have had my scooter for a long time, and now they are saying it is the generator I need. Now I am looking at buying one for £200 ( not cheap ). I am now getting suspicious. Did it really need a ECU? I think they took a guess and made me buy one when it wasn't needed. I think the fuel pump story is a cover up. They are saying that if I get a generator it may still need something else like a new wiring loom or something. Seriously I am supposed to buy these things one after the other with cash I do not have? The scooter has done 59000 miles, but the engine was changed at 50000, so the stator ( generator ) has not got much use at all. My previous stator was still fine after 500000, which I no longer have. Here is what I cannot get my head round. What are the odds that when I pulled up at the side of the road to have a short rest, both the ECU and the generator packed in at the same time? I just cannot believe this is the case. Especially when the generator has done such low milage. My scooter is at a garage in bits, and I now feel reluctant to buy this generator for them to put in. I have lost my trust and faith in the company. Please can you give me your opinion on both these parts failing at the exact same time I pulled over? Am I right to feel suspicious? Many thanks
