@Chris Mason I see where you are coming from about the whole expectation vs reality. It is a valid point since a lot of people set themselves for a dissapointment by expecting there could be more than what is shown(or what is meant to be)... BUT, and I don't mean to be rude here, it doesn't seem like you fully grasp your own proposal here. You're ignoring something which is substancial(more or less in line with what Bill Lizard tried to express): It being the product the developers conceived in their minds and the game advertised in the pre-release material, still doesn't automatically mean the end product in itself is any good. Perhaps the very idea/concept is what's wrong... and the end product itself would inherently just reflect that as well. This is better explained with a comparison. Think of all those "cinematic experience" type of games(not necessarily interactive movie type, not even that, the one that go for a movie-level of epic vibe). They have all these aspects that are just right(graphics, setting, artstyle, atmosphere, narrative, characters and their designs, etc), in sense that there's nothing that "off" about them... but then, the "gaming" itself in the *videogame* that this "cinematic experience" product is... is shallow. Devoid of any meaninful interaction from the player. Like it seems more of an afterthought, or an excuse for the whole product itself to be videogame instead of just a movie. Now, I'm not saying you cannot enjoy such products. I'm not saying that you can't have a game that focuses more on other aspects than it does on gameplay... but when gameplay is(perhaps this is an exaggeration) "neglected" and devoid of any sense of engagement, of entertainment... of that thing that gives birth to the subjective state of mind so called "fun"... then that's just wrong. That's just bad design. And there's no excuse around this.

I really wanted to like this game. I've waited five years for it. I got past act III but was so sick of the puzzles and barely any health or ammo. I just watched a playthrough of the last hour instead of finishing the game myself. The game was way more frustrating than I anticipated. It desperately needs a jump button and a dodge mechanic. If you're three hours in you're 3/4 of the way done with it. It's 4-5 hours MAX.

Looks like most of the dev budget was spent on a HR Giger book and several tonnes of Kleenex, then they realised they have to actually produce a game in return

I'm glad it's on Game Pass 👌 would have been disappointed if I had paid the big bucks! Actual guns later on somewhat improve the experience. Its a walking puzzle Simulator with the odd bit of action. Just finished it myself and I enjoyed the "experience" overall.

This wasn't dark souls or Sekiro.... Not that hard or complex, rather perplexing complaints? Honestly was expecting a far worse experience after this review yet was pleasantly surprised. Still expensive for how short it is, game-pass is the way to go. Puzzles weren't too hard, combat with the fister wasn't difficult - just hit-n run, kill enough you eventually get sort of glory kills & the actual projectile weapons really improve gameplay further.

It's a stroll through a world that combines the art of HR Giger and Zdzisław Beksiński. That's all I wanted from this game. Yes, it's not a gameplay masterpiece, but that's not the point. And it's not even full price. All in all, I'm happy with it.
@kyleperkins932 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I feel like all the negative reviews don’t get the point of the game, and did no research up to release. “Oh look, a cool looking game just came out! Let’s review it! A puzzle game? Not combat focused? This game is trash!” But the game was never supposed to be combat focused and the devs never presented it to be as such.

The game is actually addictively good, a superbly crafted atmospheric nightmare (you love this descriptive shite, don't you> 😅). Hence, having no explanation of how you got there, why, or when, goes in its favour. I am more than 4 hours in to the game and only died twice because I was nosy and wanted to know what happen. For the enemies, it's not hard to kill them with the pogo-stick thingie. You can avoid the penis creatures by hiding and blocking its line of sight before it sees you,. They have a box-standard enemy AI i.e. with vision cone..etc I agree it is annoying that you can't jump, but you get used to it just like people did with Alien isolation, which is one of the best Sci-Fi horror games after Dead Space. After watching your video (which was as usual brilliant and I LMAO hard) you really put me off buying it, but luckily it was free on my son's XBox Pass for PC, so gave it a try and got hooked right away (yes I am one of them miserable ones who love running around and admiring the scene and atmosphere 😉)

@Opaque Muse I totally get it! this game was on my list for years and looked so interesting and tbh, it's way better than I thought it would be. I still can not get my head around the fact that it was done by an indie studio as it beats tens of AAA games easily. I just got past the giant creature with the big titties things and man what an experience.. The world that follows with fetuses easily beats Prometheus movie design, this game is not made by humans for sure. To me, it feels like a Silent hill in space.
