A video I took of my journey along the Far North Line from Inverness to Wick. With a journey time of just under 4 and a half hours and a distance of 174 miles the Far North Line is one of the most scenic routes in the country. I first joined a service from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh where I changed and waited for the following Wick service. Some incredible views along the North Sea coast en route. Also to stretch my legs I decided to leave the train at Georgemas Junction while it went round the curve to Thurso & back, then I rejoined it to Wick. Which also allowed me to get some exterior shots of the 158 unit.

Thanks. I enjoyed that. A pity you were so close to those who for 20 years I put up with when commuting, who never stopped talking and said nothing. But many thanks, keep them coming. Rmb

that was very nice. good to see the stations. many years ago I travelled on a 4 day land cruise train from London St Pancras to GEORGEMASS junction, then a coach and ship to Orkneys, then a coach one day tour and return to pick up the train again at Wick. The 4 days was a 16 coach train with sleepers. 1st and 3rd night on train and middle night in a hotel. It was silver servic all the way and the 4 of us had a 6 seat compartment with sliding door.Cost including everything except boose was £320..each. Thanks for sharing this I enjoyed it and it brought back many memories

Lived in Thurso for 5 years.Did the return trip home thurso to Inverness, Inverness to Edinburgh,Edinburgh to Grantham many times. Much underrated train journey, although the Thurso to Inverness rail trip is nearly twice as long as that by road!

The 158 my favourite DMU, used to travel on them on the long journey from Weston to penzance back in the 90s, the 158 is a comfy ride so long journeys like that weren't a problem. Why gwr think it's ok to use a class 150 these days on the Bristol to penzance stopping service is beyond me, or do they think not many people will be riding it all the way down to penzance, well I have a few times & the 150 is ok for a short trip but 4 hours plus, I'd rather the 158!

Why do you say that? OK, there aren't many trees and it is quite flat compared to other part of the highlands but the seascapes are absolutely stunning.
