Tighter rule suggestion. When going between extremities of one single franchise, use only trains operated by that particular franchise. Scotrail it probably would not have worked anyways, but the others are smaller...
@NickBadley5 ай бұрын
This is something we considered mentioning in the video. Essentially it would have been theoretically doable, but would have required the first train of the day out of Thurso. Meaning getting up very early after an already incredibly exhausting day. But then, the second train would have meant we wouldn't have been able to make it to our hotel for that night, as the services would have ended too early. So Avanti from Edinburgh to Carlisle was the best compromise we could make. Hope that clears it up!

@@neehaXplores actually no. No journey on the underground, I was going from London Charing Cross to Euston by bus. Arguably, I think, the line between Inverness via Aviemore to Perth is the most scenic railway line in the British Isles. You should have booked First Class on the HST ScotRail Inter7City as they still have the original GWR leather seats, they are beautiful but you’ll only get a complementary cup of tea and biscuit but no food, lunch or dinner, as ‘ScotRail is Government owned’ as I was told last week!! Yes, last week I did the Highland Chieftain from York to Inverness for a couple of nights; my mission was to finally have a ride on the Strathspey Heritage Railway at Aviemore, following my last attempt when the Flying Scotsman crashed there this last October! It’s a must do and amazing scenery. There was also some interesting charter movement there with the Royal Scotsman luxury tour train parked up for a little while - to stay on that gets into the thousands of pounds!!

I think Kirknewton to Lockerbie is a longer run with no stations -- you don't go close enough to Carstairs to count it as a station that you pass. But since when is Carlisle a station in Scotland? You could have taken a local train back to Annan, which is the southernmost station that actually has trains at the moment, or waited until next week when Stranraer reopens and reclaims its title!

I love how they used to love how they used to the same northern train from Carlisle to Scotland that they ran from Darlington to Carlisle via Newcastle upon Tyne for both services they literally have the same drivers the only difference is that at Carlisle they put a food service trolley on it and then they take it off at Carlisle on the return trip since northern don’t run catering services and Scot rail do. At one point in the late 2010’s that was a genuine thing. Those pacers were bloody awful in the late 2010’s since they were shared with both northern and scotrail and they used to run them directly out of Darlington via Newcastle to Carlisle.
