Apparently a lot of the top guys in the locker room (both Kliq and BSK) hated Shane, and add to the fact that he was friends with Chris Candido and Bam Bam didn't help him. I respect that about Shane. Shane never kissed know ones ass from either McMahon, promoters and many high caliber over the hill wrestlers like Flair, Hogan and etc as many wrestlers were expected to do in Shane's time. He wanted to build a revolution and did with ECW. Even so, I know Shane had potential then just ECW but a part of me wanted him to conform a bit to showcase that potential than being just the Franchise of ECW but into the bigger promotions.

Im sorry but I believe Shane Douglas's account more than Scott. Scott Hall tried to bury Shane Douglas in front of the boys after their matches in the WWF and it was not well received from the bookers. At the same time, I cant put it all on Hall because Vince Mcmahon's idea of a cornball professor gimmick for Douglas made him look way too green than what he was capable of. By that time, Douglas already had 13 years of wrestling experience, first ECW World Champion, understanding of the business, and psychology under his belt. A guy like Shane Douglas does not fall short in this business unless you bury him with bad booking, bad ideas, and a few wrestlers who acted like they were in the booking committee of the WWF.

In fact, Diesel turning into a cookies and milk babyface in 94 was a horrible decision. Shane's interviews are good, he remembers a lot of details, he seems earnest, etc. I believe him, I'm sure he picked up on a lot of bad stuff going on around him and his issues with the Kliq have some merit. However, I also think he simply didn't adapt to the WWE environment well and by the time he realized that, it was too late to turn it around. And he instead chose to turn up the volume on his anger and he left in an extremely bad/unprofessional way by cussing WWE in the ring in MSG I believe on his last house show. @@JorgeMunoz-gn5do ECW was a glorified indie show. It had bizarre fans who cared only for the dangerous spots and it made it almost impossible for anyone who got "over" there to make it anywhere else where you needed to use traditional pro wrestling skills (gimmick, mic skills, etc). It is all well and good having the gimmick of "the best" in a place full of nobodies, but when you go to a roster packed with people who know how to work and especially big names, it becomes very difficult to call yourself "The Franchise" and use that gimmick in a place that has Hogan, Savage, Sting, Goldberg, etc. He was also extremely hurt by having already been seen on national TV as a Dynamic Dude and Dean Douglas. In a big company Shane Douglas was a Billy Gunn level of talent ; good wrestler, good talker, etc, but lacking that extra it factor to be anything more than an IC/US title level guy. He was never in a million years going to be a top guy in WCW or WWF.

Most of the legends of wwe all came to prominence by first being from ECWs doors. Douglas never claimed to be a Franchise in wwf/wcw. He called himself the Franchise of a revolution he started with ECW. He never got over in wwf cause the Kliq cockblocked his run and dealing with politics. In WCW, he was great in his work with Steamboat already in the late 80s WCW. Your right about Shane only being midcard in WCW and WWF. I still loved him as main eventer in ECW. You're right! @@JorgeMunoz-gn5do Firstly Japanese wrestlers had been going to the US for almost 40 years before ECW even existed, and secondly the most famous Japanese wrestler in the US of all time was The Great Muta and he was a WCW exclusive. I would even say that prior to him The Great Kabuki was a bigger name than every "ECW" original combined. It's funny how ECW was the first to bring in Luchadores considering Dallas & Houston had been using Mil Mascaras for probably 25 years before ECW existed. As for "most of the WWE legends all were in ECW first, well, how do I put this to you? Uhmmm, Hulk Hogan drew more in one month in the late 1980s than ECW drew in it's entire history and he never set foot there. Randy Savage & Ultimate Warrior also were bigger on their own that ECW was and they never set foot there. Oh, you are going to say Austin & Foley............uhmmm, how do I put this to you, they were established in WCW and were already names making a brief stop in ECW on the way to WWF. Benoit? Not a legend at all, but again, was seen in WCW in 1993, so way before the 300 people in the VWF hall at ECW saw him. Malenko? Yeah, some legend.................. ECW was the small time, pretty much the ROH of it's day and being a "star" there meant jack shit in the big leagues. Shane Douglas was already an established WCW & WWF midcarder when he went to ECW and it is because of this that he had any standing at all. Being a tag team champ in WCW held way more cache than "I was ECW champ!!!" You cannot name ONE person who was a "star" in ECW that hadn't already been seen on WCW or WWF TV prior to their ECW run or became anything outside of ECW. RVD? Already been in WCW. Raven? Already been in WCW & WWF. Sandman? A nobody outside of ECW. Sabu? A non-entity outside of ECW. Mike Awesome? A Lex Luger clone with zero charisma. it is good that ECW existed as a place for people to work, but it's stature is WAY overrated in hindsight and the "stars" that they had were mostly the guys who never had "it" and would always be midcarders in the big leagues.

Shane did promos on the spot in ECW. Heyman wanted his wrestlers to do promos on the spot and mostly shoots. Shane never did anything scripted just like the whole ECW roster just like Heyman wanted. Shane was the most notorious heel in wrestling those days. The night he shook Gary Wolfs halo as the entire arena converged on Shane was epic.
