Fun facts: The original ending of this film was Scott ending up with Knives, but it didn't test well with audiences. The woman who played Knives Chau, while playing the youngest person in the main cast, was actually the oldest actress. The reason it feels like a manga is because this was based on a comic book.

@ImAlsoMerobiba
@ImAlsoMerobiba Жыл бұрын
@@emurphy42 NegaScott is meant to a manefesation of all of Scott's faults, his selfishness and forgotten past mistakes. He's not a great person, but also not evil. People assume that since they get along, that NegaScott is the opposite of Scott but he isn't. If anything, they get along because NegaScott is like Scott. Him defeating NegaScott is supposed to represent him recognizing and taking accountability for his faults. That's also why the 2nd sword he pulls out of himself is power of self-respect. The whole NegaScott thing was supposed to be the climax of his growth arc, although it doesn't play out that way in the movie.

I think it's fine that Scott ends up with Ramona instead of Knives, but not because they're soulmates or anything, it's just that Scott and Ramona are an ok fit, and Knives deserves someone who's a good fit for her. Scott Pilgrim is the name of a 90's indie song by Plumtree that became a comic book. The character Steven Stills is named after the Stills of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, leading to the younger character Young Niel. Ramona is a Ramones song. Kim's name is the name of the drummer from the band that sings Scott Pilgrim. Most of the music was created by Beck.

I'm still blown away how good the fight choreography and camera work in those scenes are. And the camera work is so important because we can actually see what's going on, unlike in some of the Bourne movies where they made a big deal about Matt Damon's training and the fighting style he used only for them to overdo it with the shaky cam rendering the whole point of him learning how to fight onscreen because we couldn't see what he was actually doing. A lot of what I saw in Scott Pilgrim reminded me of the Hong Kong style martial arts movies that I grew up watching in the mid-80s.

For me this movie is about relationships and getting over heartbreaks. I have had times where girls would bring up certain aspects of their exes they liked (more) and to be honest I also had similar thoughts. In the beginning of a relationship we all are subconsciously fighting those aspects of those exes in their mind, with the things we do, make breakfast, get nicer presents, be more thoughtful, play better music, have stronger convictions, etc. In if you do the right things for the right reasons you may even end up becoming a new better person. Getting a life is like when you break up or mess something up and then fight to prove that you truly have changed This movie just brought all thought fights in such a creative way, it is my top 10 all time movie and Edgar Wright's best for me.

Scott pilgrim is my absolute favorite graphic novels. For those unfamiliar with the comics, Scott is supposed to be imperfect, not exactly unlikeable, but he makes a lot of bad decisions and stupid mistakes. Because despite the pop culture and nerdy references and imagery, at it's core, the Story of Scott Pilgrim (both in the Comics and Movie, but more so in the Comics) is a story about Relationships, Heartbreak, Moving On, Personal Baggage, Personal Mistakes, and Self-Improvement in a way. Both main characters, Scott Pilgrim, and Ramona Flowers are full of baggage. We meet scott a year after Envy (Brie Larson), his girlfriend who he spent years with, broke his heart and broke up with him, and now he's decided to "date" a 16 year old knives, just because its easy, without baggage or trauma. While Ramona is a girl just riddled with baggage and mistakes, but because of pure coincidence, attracts the attention of Scott, and as she has run away from america to leave all her problems behind, in Scott, she saw the same simplicity that Scott saw in Knives. And throughout the 6 books of scott pilgrim, we see them struggle through their baggage and trying to become better people. Because ultimately, they're both very shitty people. Scott is a slacker, ignorant to the point that he thinks all of his previous relationships were awesome and that his Girlfriends were lucky to have dated him. But this ignorance is revealed to be caused by him suppressing all the bad stuff because bottling it all up is so much easier for him than to face all the mistakes he's ever made. While Ramona has commitment issues as she runs away whenever she thinks things are getting too difficult and serious, leading to the 7 evil exes that she has. they come to terms with their past mistakes even though they try to run away from it (like Ramona) or keep it out of their mind entirely (like scott did), we also get to explore their relationships with their friends, exes, and the people around them, and by the end they learn and become better people, or at least try and see if they can become better people after they stop running away and ignoring their baggage. And incase you didn't notice, Scott has his own evil Exes too, there's Knives, Envy (Brie Larson), and Kim. In the comics there was even a girl named Lisa that wasn't covered in the movie (she was one of my favorite characters in the story along with Natalie). This is one of my all time favorite stories, and I love the Comic as well as the Movie (though the movie could definitely have been more accurate.) Edit: Also from the comics, it isn't clear whether all the fantastic stuff in the world is real or just a metaphorical representation of the story's events. but Ramona claims she studied at Big Sky (a big university in the sky held down by a Giant Chain) so it's up to you if you think it's just metaphorical or literal. Additionally, if I remember correctly, it's clear in the comic that The Seven Evil Exes are the only people Ramona has dated. They weren't evil to begin with, but became evil partly because of how Ramona left them all broken hearted. Also: a Scott Pilgrim Anime is confirmed to be in development with the same cast as the voice actors and Edgar Wright is directing again.

I think one of my favorite little bits of trivia for this film is that Ellen Wong, playing the 17 year old chinese school girl, is actually older than almost every woman on the cast. They actually make a joke about this when Knives is yelling about how Scott likes Ramona because she's old, like probably 25, which is how old Wong actually was. Also kind of funny is that the inverse is true for Brie Larson, who plays a woman in her mid 20's but was about 19 during filming.

This movie is one of my top 5 because there is nothing like before and I'm sure there never will be again. Its the perfect recipe for a weird multi genre film that still works with all the detail. And the fact that most of the actors were already comic book characters or went on to play comic characters. Amazing

Enjoyed this reaction. Greg clearly enjoyed the film, and i loved how the style tickled his fancy throughout. Too bad movies like this dont get made anymore. This was like a special treat in cinema.

I always felt this film embodied a unique blend of the best of the late 2000s and of my teenage years (fighting games, pop culture, romantic dramas, indie bands, comics and sarcasm) that no other film is able to replicate. The fact it also bombed at the box office is a travesty.

16:15 just a cool thing to point out during this scene if you notice in the background Scott has hearts behind him symbolizing that he really like Ramona, and she has X’s behind her symbolizing her baggage of evil X’s but later hers turn to hearts I just thought that was a cool detail they added.

“It’s called a grind, bro!” When I bought this movie on dvd, I watched it 3 times in one weekend! It’s hilariously awesome! My favorite part is when Scott hits the bass pedal, the Yeti comes out and screen does the VS graphic! “WE ARE SEX BO-OMB, AND WE ARE HERE TO WATCH SCOTT PILGRIM KICK YOUR TEETH IN!”

10/10 Epic indeed The tagline for this film is "An Epic of Epic Epicness" and I couldn't agree more. After waiting in line for 3 hours after last night's Comic-Con and finally being sat in the gorgeous Balboa Theater, I didn't know what to expect. I loved the comics and the previews looked faithful. The moment the movie starts (literally; the Universal logo and theme are 8-bit) you are thrown into a comic book atmosphere with video game references aplenty. The plot revolves around Scott Pilgrim needing to defeat the 7 Evil Exes of Ramona Flowers in order to date her and it is a harrowing sequence of battles. Each fight is crazier than the last and some are used purely for comedy, not excitement. Almost every other line is a punchline and they all work. References to TV shows, video games and comics (just like a 20-something's life would include) are everywhere and if you accept the concept of the plot, it all feels natural. While the audience might've been biased (we held a 10-minute standing ovation for Edgar Wright when the movie finished) there's no denying that it's an excellent film. Edgar Wright has an uncanny sense of comic timing with edits and sound cues to make the picture tight and focused when it's looking for laughs.

This movie is still to this day a movie I’ll watch anytime I want to feel good. It shaped the sort of films I would end up watching after 2010 and it definitely shaped my appreciation for filmmaking.

I think you nailed it calling this movie sort of a "dance" - it's very rhythmic and the transitions are just so pleasing to watch, like those videos of satisfying things, like the click of placing the final jigsaw puzzle piece or a perfect riffle shuffle of cards. Underneath it all, it actually has a lot of wise metaphors, but if you wanted to just turn your brain off and enjoy it for the cinematography, you could totally do that too.

This movie, like most of Edgar Wright's movies, was not well marketed. and thus it didn't do well at the box office. They finally decided to market _Baby Driver_ properly and that made profit. It's a shame this movie didn't get the marketing it deserves.

The attention to detail in this movie is insane. Fun fact: Envy and Todd play a song by Metric, the band that inspired Envy in the comics, and the soundtrack was recorded in Metric's home studio for that authentic garage sound.

I think that the moment Scott meets Ramona we can see that he's been with Knives only to feel good about himself because he just wants to feel cool and powerful.

I highly disagree with the too long bit. I think a LOT of what makes everything work is how Scott continually persists despite set backs, how he grows throughout the movie and how losing that final fight finally puts things into perspective and begins some self reflection. I don't think the ending really works if he just wins that fight to begin with.

Recommend the comics - they have a different plot as the movie was released before all of the volumes were released. They have a completely different ending and all of the characters are expanded on (especially Kim and Envy). There is an anime series with the exact same cast releasing soon which has the author as a producer.

This movie will always remain my personal most favorite movie not only from Edgar Wright but also from the year of 2010. And Ramona immediately became a movie crush. And I'll never forget the pre movie release party that me & my brother attended at a former existing comic book store called Atomic Comics. Had catering, games & live bands. Seen it in theaters twice tho. I love all the funny one liners & comic book sound effects/references. And the fight scenes & music just rules.
