Video is based on RGB (red, green and blue) - the colours are combined in various ways to reproduce a wide array of colours. you look close up on the old CRT TVs and thats what you'll see Edgar wrights been making movies since VHS, He would have been exposed to that colour arrangement for decades (2 at least)

Also note that the three goddesses of The Legend of Zelda's lore - Din, Nayru, and Farore - are red, blue, and green, in that order. ... Not saying there's any specific relation between Scott Pilgrim and Zelda (beyond the obvious retro video game references in the movie) - or hell, even between Zelda and the Cornetto Trilogy. Just that red/blue/green, in that order, is a common sequence in color-coded video games.

Did anyone else notice that Scott’s inability to make decisions came from the fact that he was dumped shortly after he made the decision to get his hair cut? He attributes his heart break with decisions, even in the film when he makes the decision to tell Ramona that he loves her, he still messes it up. Ultimately at the end of the film it took someone to go get the girl.

This movie is probably my fav Edgar Wright film out of them all. I remember the weekend the film came out, was the first time I had really heard the word 'hipster.' That word's use skyrocketed over that opening weekend...the weekend where it became 'action-lovers vs hipsters' at the box-office. And yeah, the action-lovers went on-and-on about that first-place Box-office finish. ...but all these years later, how many people are still talking about The Expendables? I still recall when the Blu-ray was released, the stores severely under-ordered copies. It was the first time I could recall going to over a dozen different stores on a new-release Tuesday, and finding no copies to purchase in person!

Seriously though, check out the original book series. In the books, Scott and Ramona both undergo profound character deconstruction and rebirth in the story's conclusion. While in the movie they fight and then they make up and that's the end of it; in the books both Scott and Ramona separately realize that they are garbage people that only destroy everyone around them, and at the end the two learn to except themselves and each other, and take steps to genuinely restructure their lives and become better people. The movie's ending misses all the best stuff from the book ending, and it kind of ruins the movie for me.

Six graphic novels really can't be "properly" condensed down into a single average-length movie. Oh and also THE GRAPHIC NOVELS WEREN'T FINISHED BY THE TIME THE MOVIE CAME OUT. I love both. The graphic novels tell a more fleshed-out story, but this movie is god damn brilliantly put together. It is stuffed to the brim with detail and manages to reach a conclusion satisfying enough for its length. That's all anyone should care about, not "hurr durr it didn't match the books." Adaptations always make changes (especially if they adapt from an unfinished product). Lord of the Rings is probably the greatest adaption ever made and it changed a good amount of stuff from the books and if you disagree with me saying it's the greatest SORRY I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE 11 ACADEMY AWARDS AND CONTINUED DISCUSSION BY FILM ANALYSTS 15 YEARS LATER OH WELL GUESS WE ALL AGREE IT'S THE GREATEST THEN MOVING ON.

I'm not talking about a little detail, I'm talking about the entire point of the story. The movie says "learn to believe in yourself, but keep it real, and if you play your cards right you'll bang a hot girl." Fine enough. But the book ends with "If you refuse to confront your problems will only result in misery and the only hope you have to reconstruct any semblance of happiness is by gutting everything about your life and killing the habits that are slowly killing you." I understand that this part of the book wasn't written when the movie began production. I do not blame Edgar Wright for anything. But it doesn't change the fact that the movie has a nothing ending. I thought the ending felt hollow when I first saw the movie as a new audience. Later, reading the books made any feelings I had on the movie ending crystal clear. The movie was a fun flick that made me rethink how movies can be filmed. The book made me rethink my real life. It isn't anyone's fault. But in terms of emotional impact, there is no comparison, to me at least.

Okay, I guess I'm going overboard a bit here. To dial it back, the comic didn't make me cry or anything. But I think that if the movie, as directed by Edgar Wright, had the book's ending, that it would have been a true classic among cinema. As it stands, I think I'll remember the book longer into the future than I remember the movie.

From my very first viewing (yes, I was one of the people who did see this in theaters) I was absolutely in love with it. The crazy part is that with each viewing it gets better because you notice more things; such as the X's that show up on screen when a new ex is about to show up. I'm glad there are people out there that appreciate this movie as much as I do. And I swear, my name being Scott has absolutely nothing to do with why I love it, lol.

This is one of my top 3 movies, I can throw it on at any time and I'll enjoy it as if it were the first time. The level of detail and visual complexity in the movie is bonkers, every time I see it there's something new I didn't notice before and it makes other movies look drab and boring for a while after. The energy it has is just infectious and so unique. I think it's totally cool to look at the movie without the source material in mind too honestly, there's a lot of interesting differences especially given that the movie was being worked on with only two out of 6 books out but it would take forever to go through all of that too. I think they're two awesome versions of the same core story that both stand on their own and are different in genuinely fun and interesting ways. Awesome ep Mikey!

My favourite part about the lighting in the background of the bus scene is that towards the end of that scene, the x's in the background on screen for ramona change into hearts as she gradually comes around to Scott. Y'know, even though he's still being an arsehole - such a tiny background detail,but it says so much if you notice it. It's just bloody good.

re 4:40- the bokeh also changes to hearts when we cut back to Scott and he shifts the tone of conversation to affirm the clarity of the terms of their relationship. It's a filmmaking technique that literally anybody with a camera and a sheet of paper can do that's criminally under-utilized, but it's also rarely used as well as this example. Great episode, Mikey! Always looking forward to these.

I'm from Toronto, so obviously I saw this movie in a theater in Salt Lake City. I spent a lot of the movie in awe of how awesome and hilarious it was, and saying to my friend "that's near my house!" (Plus it made me home-sick) I also, months earlier, went to go see Kevin Smith do one of his shows and Edgar Wright & some of the cast were there, taking a night off from the filming of this movie. Allison Pill & Kieran Culkun (probably spelled that wrong) steal this film! This movie holds a big place in my heart. Thank you for your video. :)

I continue to adore Movies with Mikey, I've been glued to every episode, and this one I was really looking forward to, and it delivered. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is one of those movies that's special to me, on so many levels, not the least, but perhaps most superficial, is that it's one of those movies that was shot in Toronto (where I was born), and takes place there, something that rarely happens. More importantly this movie is set in the very real neighborhoods, parks, and music venues that people actually inhabit, and that, for a Torontonian, is super fun. Super fun fact: the band, Crash and the Boys, in the film, is said to be from Brampton (a small city outside of Toronto), which is where Michael Cera (and me) grew up. Also, the bassist, that Scott hates, is named Drew. My name is Drew. I played bass. I had a good laugh at the fun coincidence.

The end, where you talk about it being a cult classic, reminded me of something I’ve always wanted to see. Can you, or someone else in the movie positive review spectrum, explain why we all love The Princesses Bride?
