Scottish Clans: The story behind Clan Fraser

Every weekend, Carl MacDougall, will tell the story of one of Scotland's famous Clans. This week, we take a look at the Fraser Clan.
The Frasers are a clan with two chiefs.
The Lowland Frasers of Philorth, Lords Saltoun, are Chiefs of the Fraser name.
The Highland Fraser Chief is Lord Lovat and the lands of Inverness-shire around Black Isle and the Beauly Firth are traditional Fraser of Lovat territory.
The Frasers arrived from France before 1160, when Simon Fraser held lands in East Lothian. Another Simon Fraser fought with Robert the Bruce and was executed by Edward I. His cousin, Alexander was Bruce's brother-in-law and chamberlain and it's from his younger brother, Simon, that the Frasers of Lovat are descended.

My Grandad is Scottish and born in Haddington and did a junior army leaders in Park Hall Oswestry Shropshire and here I am today whith my Granddad's medal of Honor for serving the army when you serve and .You see my Grandad with a Glangarre??? .... Can't spell it and my name is C. Rebecca Fraser short for Frazles C. Frizzell here in America. The sons of William and James Fraser banished to America after the Battle of Dunbar because we would not bow to the English. We were stripped of our titles, but we gained freedom in America. We know our roots. We know we bare the Ancient name.

Great video, thank you! Y'all... on a nerdy note....take note of Fraser history if you want more clues for Jamie in Outlander. Claire mentioned about Piper in ww2 that HATED needles. She grinned. Ie Jamie Fraser and his hate of needles clue. Outlander has so many historical points you literally can get clues just watching and hearing about Scottish history around that time. On another random note. Everytime I hear about Scottish history I weep for the people and hate the British even more. For the love of God... I pray the next vote will be a majority to leave Britain and Scotland will be its own separate independent country. The indegenious people of Scotland have suffered enough and deserve thier country fully back. Bring back Gaelic! Why is it not a necessity in schools? Interestingly enough... I can't find any map of pre-Roman Gaul with the Friselii listed. Perhaps, if the Gallic tribe theory is true, the Friselii themselves were Gallicized Romans?

I'm actually a descendant of clan Fraser, my great great grandmother was a frazee, and if you follow my family tree back 17 generations you get to Hugh Fraser the first Lord Lovat

Probably. We have a Lovat road here in nova Scotia and it's where the Fraser's settled

Not all Frasers are Frasers of Lovat! Only if your coat of arms depict the words “Je Suis Prest” (I am ready) with a stag Are you a lovat Fraser. Otherwise you could be one of a dozen other Fraser clans

@@Garl_Vinland seems kinda inaccurate given time though. Im not an expert on the subject but the coat of arms for us is 3 wolves due to being wolfkeepers during the battle of hastings in 1066. id say lovat and lovett sound remarkably similar, and given the french norman history of the name well..kinda makes sense? but idk.

@@WutLawl If your name is Lovett than you may loosely be related through french/norman blood but keep in mind; Frasers of Lovat, are Frasers. Their coat of arms are the three fraise blossoms on a blue field quartered and three red antique crowns (For Sir Simon Fraser saving the King of Jules life three times durring the Scottish war for independance)
