This song is actually a slave hymn. The first known publishing of it was in 1867 in the Slave Songbook. It is a beautiful song, and knowing it's origin, it hits me hard.
@maciedixon39833 жыл бұрын
Yep. It’s origin is super sad but also inspiring.
@colinkillian92652 жыл бұрын
Wasn't a slave hymn, they just copied it from whites..Jesus people are so gullible, blacks from Africa where not Christian, yes some took the faith but most slavemasters refused to allow them to practice the christian faith as they thought them inferior..

I've only experienced this 1 time by happenstance at a hotel in Atlanta, Ga. It was even better in person. The music not only wrapped around you, but it went physically through you. You literally became one with the music. If you ever get the chance to be present at one of these performances, don't miss it.

@@nTrylo Thank you for the info. I knew hearing sacred music at the Cathedral had that affect on me, but I never thought about the design acoustics playing a part. 😊

The All State Choir's like to perform, standing on the balconies outside their rooms. The central area has fantastic Acoustics...So you basically have kids on multiple levels singing. Not only do the girls sing, but the boys and girls sing the national every night when the are staying there...

Songs of praise to God tend to have that affect. What a beautiful , almost angelic performance. Sometimes I wonder what it would sound like when real holy angels are singing.

Well go listen to Angels Singing in the Background Recorded-Testimony by Michael Tyrrell. The song itself is beautiful but then when those Angels come in singing and you can hear them but it’s a feeling that can no be explained.

Tears began to flow as I listened to this. I was in the All State Choir of my state many decades ago and this brought back such wonderful memories of the great music we made as high school singers and the friends we made. This being sung A Capella makes it even more thrilling. There is a very famous A Capella group called Pentatonix from the US and they had a fabulous bass singer named Avi Kaplan. He was with them6 years then left from complete exhaustion. He had a dream to from a choir like this using youth from all over the world but mostly the US He presented the idea to the famous music arranger Ben Bram and they with a third gentleman became the "daddies" to a fabulous group called A Capella Academy. Avi raises money every year by doing an on line concert to provide a way for those whose families cannot afford to send their chosen children. Here is a selection the choir did a few years back. Avi wrote the song and Ben arranged and conducted it. They gather at a university in California and learn to make these fabulous sounds as a group. Each year a new group of Jr. High and High School students gather. A Capella Academy Choir THE SEED (Avi Kaplan) kzbin.info/www/bejne/joubanV-oreZrdU

This is a very old hymn, first published in the mid-1800s but it's older than that. No one is entirely sure who wrote it but the prevailing theory is that it started as an African American spiritual and evolved from there. The kids in this video did a lovely job, and of course Alison Krause's rendition is the modern benchmark for it.
