@@TheDonsChannelGreat reaction to a great song. I tried hard, and failed, to find a KZbin video with the FAMOUS live 70s version of this song. But the original 1970 version, which is equally good, is below. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXauoIeCl9CVnbc You may like many of his songs. He's got dozens of great songs...and I don't say that lightly or about many, including from the traditional country that I love. Merle really is one of the most prolific singers when it comes to just incredibly great songs, even from that Musical Renaissance, that Golden Age of Music known as the 60s and 70s! One you might like, which is equally detested by all the right people (cough...the evil Left), is Okie From Muskogee. "Okie From Muskogee" Merle Haggard, Live circa 1970 (I think this is the more beloved & famous live version of the song) kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4SchXWIp9yDotE Btw, just so you know, most conservatives are not ever going to donate through Leftist managed Patreon. Patreon is known for discriminating against and de-platforming anything and anyone who is deemed "offensive" to the Woketards of the world.

When we start remembering the REAL country I can't help but think of George Jones' "Who's gonna fill their shoes" NOBODY in today's "country" has a tenth of the talent as Merle, Waylon, Willie, George, or Johnny or even the talent that was out when Toby Keith got big.

I've been fortunate enough to see both of these men in concert, though not in same concert. Another Merle Haggard song you need to hear is Okie from Muskogee. It came out in the late 60's/70's as a protest song against the songs protesting the Vietnam war. Merle was always a staunch supporter of the US & it's military

This was actually written during the Vietnam War. The ‘squirrelly guy’ was anti war back them. Merle was one of the greats. He started recording in the 50s and had dozens of hits. Check out ‘Mama Tried’ which is semi-autobiographical, even the birthday in prison part. It’s an amazing song.

Merle Haggard is National Treasure. Part of the Bakersfield Sound, that competed with Nashville for the soul of Country. The Bakersfield Sound was more gritty and about the working man. His family was part of the Dust Bowl migrants that made their way to California's Central Valley to work the fields. Merle was a favorite of Ronald Reagan and played for him often. Old school, country.

Merle died in 2016 and when he did his last concert, he was on an oxygen tank and could hardly keep up but Toby Keith was there and told Merle that if he needed him, he'd be there for him. Sure enough, when Merle couldn't sing anymore, he signaled Toby and without a second of hesitation, Toby was on the stage singing Merle's songs to the delight of the whole band, and the audience. It was a great night as Merle did not want to cancel any shows for his fans. What a great person (RIP Merle). Here's the video of that last concert. kzbin.info?search_query=toby+keith+helps+merle+haggard+on+stage+for+last+performance Now Toby himself is fighting stomach cancer and had to cancel all of last year's concerts and he came on stage for an award that was given and he was able to sing a song. He's much thinner than he used to be but we're all hoping he'll come back stronger and healthier. Prayers for Toby. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXbdqHeHZtZkiJY Again, thanks for the awesome reactions.
