This performance was brilliant! The storytelling for me was a transition of a woman who agreed to a situation-ship with Alfie but now realizes that she's worth more. In the beginning, she's perfectly hitting the Ts and enunciating every word, basically people-pleasing Alfie. When she says non-believers, she's including herself and admitting that she co-signed this non-relationship/relationship with Alfie. But then she has a news flash for him. Guess what? I believe in love, Alfie. It is ok to want it, and I deserve to find it. I know it won't work for us, but when you figure this out, Alfie, just let your heart lead the way and you too will find love. By the end, she is singing freely and still in control with her own flair. Beautiful! Absolutely BRILLIANT!

The best singers often have good vocal control. I gather that real love involves a measure of good emotional control. Experiencing emotional trauma, etc., makes this process harder to do but it's not impossible with support and understanding. Thanks for the beautiful analysis and testimony

Scott--Ive listed to 5-6 reactions to this performance--I found your analyst the best by far--incisive and informative. Cynthia is such a unique and arguabley unparalled talent ! She is nominated for 2 Oscars--if she wins one of them, she will become the youngest EGOT (recipient of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony award). There are 19 EGOTS to date, with Elton John becomming the most recent to achieve that honor.Keep up your great work--always look forward to one of your reviews !!!!!

Loved the way you broke down Cynthia's vocal performance, I'm obsessed with her talent!! But then you broke down the meaning of the lyrics of this great song and shared your personal experience. You have a wonderful and truly impressive gift for vocal analysis, Scott. Yours is the second analysis of this stellar performance I have seen. I was pleasantly surprised by your connection to the song's message at the end as well. This song spoke to me from the first time I heard it as a young man. I would play my guitar and sing it over and over. Until hearing you share, the connection between the song and my recovery from trauma never occurred to me. My trauma recovery work has been ongoing for decades and now as the song says, I am grateful to be more able to let my "heart lead the way" more than ever. ❤ Wishing you peace. THANK YOU. ☮️❤️🙏

Listening to this song again after so many years and especially as a guy in my mid 30s, it made me connect with it in a different way. Would you consider breaking down the song "Tides of Time" by the group Epica? This is a wonderful ballad and is (from what I gather) technically quite difficult for the singer, drawing on different techniques in different parts of the song.
