This is amazing Mr. Robertson! Makes it very clear how many thousands and thousands of hours you have put into mastering your craft. Very inspirational. Thank you.

This is brilliant. I'm working through your 'how to draw' book currently and I have to say it has really helped me translate my foundation skills into Photoshop by following the lessons and I've learnt so much as well. Once i'm done i will be 110% buying your rendering book. You're an inspiration to anyone that wants to draw... thank you for these uploads and your books Scott, truly!

It's a shame Mr. Robertson never got into watercolor painting. The pigment's ability to create instant blends/gradients as well as quickly imitate textures make it the fastest medium possible for complex scenes. It would be a sight to behold watching Scott render entire compositions in less than 30 minutes.
@NeilSenn-uq9ix4 күн бұрын
If by some off chance you read this: Joseph Zbukvic is also an industrial designer (Deakin University). His work is a great example of what's possible. His book Mastering Atmosphere and Mood in Watercolor is a comprehensive guide on the techniques he employs that are specific to watercolor.

Bought both books! Definitely the most comprehensive info on these technical aspects of concept design. Thanks so much for your free KZbinTutes: Inspiring to see the idea demos from start to finish and the immediate practical application from your clear explanations is super gratifying.

Your knowledge of Photoshop is amazing, especially seeing that you are not just using tools for the sake of using them... you are making very good use of them, which is totally different. And man, that triangle is one versatile brush!!!!

Great tutorial Scott, and can't wait for your book to arrive! Thank you.

Thanks for this, Scott. Another concept artist here at work just shared this link. I have the book- still working my way through How To Draw, but picked up How To Render as soon as I saw it, because... just masterful stuff... quality teaching at its best. I'll be watching these again and again.

You should let Danny know that I would personally be willing to buy for either his original brush or your modified one. I tried making my own but just couldn't quite get the same feel that your brush has. Great video, makes me ready to get off work so i can jump behind my wacom!

This is fantastic Scott, thanks for this. Quick question (and a somewhat trivial one): why do you use a triangle brush in your work? It's an interesting choice to me.
@scottrobertsondesign9 жыл бұрын
Übermatik I like to use hard-edged brushes and this one is quite versatile with a nice texture. I also use an elliptical one quite often as well.
@ubermatik9 жыл бұрын
Scott Robertson Makes sense! Is it a custom burns you created, or part of a pack I can get somewhere?

Übermatik One of my students gave it to me so I cannot pass it along myself.

@Scott Robertson Hello sir. I have a question regarding shading. I have been studying art for a while. I am far from being as pro as You, but what confused me in this video is shading on the mech's right front leg. Are You sure the highlight is placed correctly? Shouldn't it be higher? Not that I question Your skills or anything like that, but it stuck out to me through entire video.
@scottrobertsondesign9 жыл бұрын
MyCryingWolf Probably used my artistic license there. This tutorial's focus is weathering and the rendering is more of sketch than an a technically correct one. That's my disclaimer and I'm sticking to it. ;)

Dear msiter Roberston i was wondering how u made the color burn brush i cant seem to make it properly work :/
@brushrunner9 жыл бұрын
But now, seriusly i have a real question, i've been trying to do the constructions in how to draw digitaly but i've been failing miserably. I asked feng zhu how he approached those ellipses without a guide and his answer was "I use circle selector, stroke line, then skew into square" I would like to know your approach, and maybe you could do a demo.... maybe? It would be elinghtinning to see you do those things digitally. p.s: It's been really really hard to find ellipses guides where i live, so i can start a construction already with the square right?
@ethanwalker33929 жыл бұрын
***** Which drawing programs do you use? Because if you're switching over to computer I would recommend Sketchbook Pro, But don't take my word for it.

Just wondering what computer spec you're working on Scott, I see it's a Mac, but what type and do you prefer Mac over other systems (i.e. Windows) for working in Photoshop, or just in general? And also I thought you used a Wacom Cintiq - isn't that Windows it runs on?
@scottrobertsondesign9 жыл бұрын
+Marçus Keil I usually work on Macs because I like the OS over the Windows environment. I always work on a Wacom tablet like an Intuos with my lap top or the Cintiq 22" with a Mac pro tower.
@ic.xc.9 жыл бұрын
Scott Robertson Firstly, just want to say thanks so much for replying, I work with Windows, perhaps I would consider OS. I'm an admirer of your design and draftsmanship, and owner of your H to Draw book. I might get H to Render, but it's just a lot to chew when i'm doing 3D at my school. I wanna pursue more drawing, I do it all the time but its difficult when my country has no school on concept art/illustration/design. I will consider an online course in the future, perhaps gnomenworkshop. Thanks scott and all the best.

Do you think this sort of work is still possible with say.. a wacom intios pen and touch? It's hard because I can't physically look at my pen when I draw :(
@scottrobertsondesign9 жыл бұрын
Renegade Gaming Yes. I worked on a basic tablet for years and I know many still do. When doing demos on my laptop I still work this way.
@Alexander-ru9ld9 жыл бұрын
Renegade Gaming i use that setup, at first its very strange especially after using a cintique, i actually bought one tried it and didn't use because it was difficult at first for almost a year until a design drawing class came up, within a few hours of rendering it felt great, its especially nice if you are on the move
