I worked for a Scott's Lawn Care franchise back in '03 till '07 while I was between jobs. They and True Green were competitors back then and they were both ripoffs. Scott's didn't even have all their own products for their treatments, We used whatever products we could get for the season. They didn't have their own Pre-M's, fungicides, pesticides, seed and even sometimes their own fertilizers which the customers were not aware of. The only good thing that came out of the experience was I learned a lot and worked with some good guys.

Why I like this product after using it for two years is that because of the greening, I get an idea of the uptake of the grass. Christmas day 2023 there was no snow and the temps were above freezing, so I applied the product. Although the lawn doesn't grow, I can see when it rains and it is near or above 50 degrees F, the lawn starts to darken. I used to follow a schedule, but occassionally we get a lot of rain and I find the more I water, the less the fertilizer stick around. So now I use the green color as a way of tracking how the lawn is doing. A few times with scheduled applications the grass would lighten and trail off before the last week and then it would take me a week to get the color back and get the lawn to where I like it. So two weeks of sickly looking lawn. People don't walk their dogs on it anymore since I made it look good.

Is it okay to use Scott's green max, along with another Scott's fertilizer at the same time?

I just wouldn’t exceed more than 1 pound of Nitrogen per 1000 square feet. Just for reference a 25 pound bag of 32-0-0 has 8 pounds of Nitrogen in the bag. I use it, but not in the heat of summer on a cool season lawn. You’d be completely fine doing this in September October or November. This time of year a slow release fertilizer like Moorganite or Milorganite is a great option.

Is it 27-0-2, or 32-0-2? They must have 2 formulas of the Greenmaxx. I have several bags that are 27-0-2 with 5% Fe. Maybe it’s based on region.

I’m pretty new to all this and maybe this is a dumb question but what are your thoughts on mixing slow & fast release nitrogen fertilizers? Laying them at the same time

If you live up north I’d be cautious. If you have irrigation and or a cool wet weather pattern it will be ok. With no irrigation and hot weather you’ll hurt the health of the grass; assuming you don’t have Bermuda grass. Cool season grasses want sit and wait until cooler weather arrives before you force it to grow. Hope that helps!

I live in Minnesota. I’m a lot better with irrigation nowadays since we’ve had some pretty dry summers recently. So I water typically 1”, one day a week. I just had my soil tested and it’s mainly low on nitrogen. I just started using Milorganite. All this lawn stuff is pretty overwhelming 🤣

I did a dummy mistake and used the wrong setting of 7 instead of 3!😢🤦🏻‍♀️I ended up using the entire bag in my small lawn ~1k sqft maybe. Been watering it like crazyyy for 1-2hrs the last 4days. Noticed you said its a quick release? Maybe that helps where its washed out more easily? You think after watering for 4days, I should be ok? Or should I keep going for the wk? I did see a few spots before but overall my lawn doesnt look like a complete disaster yet…

No. You would need a weed and feed. However I’d use an herbicide like Speedzone, Roubd Up for Lawns, Gordon’s trimec. Anything with 2-4d and Dicamba to eliminate those weeds.

I wouldn’t apply this for new grass seed. You’ll want a high phosphorus fertilizer. Something like Scott’s starter with Mesotrione.
