I feel like the extra dialogue is welcome in a normal playthrough. For challenge runs, I get the lack of enthusiasm, but for just playing regularly it adds more of a sense of a living world and characters.

Cynthia's reputation isn't overblown, per se, but she's no longer the kind of unknown factor that she was back in the day. In Red and Blue, you fight Gary Oak half a dozen times over the course of the game, you know roughly what his Champion team looks like before you get there. In Gold/Silver you've got the memory of what Lance was like in gen1 as well as a brief period working with him to clue you in to what you need to counter his team. In gen three, you have a brief team up with Steven, and also, Pokemon loves its puns and his last name is _stone_ so you know approximately what you need to beat him. Cynthia doesn't give you any kindly clues. Also, that fight is almost certainly the first time you ever get to fight a Spiritomb so you have no idea how to counter her lead. So she's pretty dang rough to face blind... but her rep means that most players will look up her general team comp beforehand, and thus have a plan/team put together to deal with her. So it's not that she's secretly bad as that like any other boss in video games, she's been reduced to a solved puzzle.
@megariderfire199410 ай бұрын
Yeah and in Steven's case...he also gave you the Steel Wing TM and he does like rocks. And in Pokemon Emerald, although he's no longer champion in that game (Side note in Wallace's case, you do have an idea what his team would be like since you fought him as a water type gym leader in Ruby/Sapphire), you do team up with him at Mossdeep to give you more of an idea for the post-game battle. Cynthia though...yeah you're right. In Platinum, she does give you a Togepi egg and she does use Togekiss in that game but that's not really saying anything at all. On the other hand, I like how Spiritomb does kinda fit her since it's related to her interests but again like you said, if you're a new player that knows nothing about the games than her champion battle is the first time you would ever face a Spiritomb.
@Mariokemon10 ай бұрын
cynthia also has a really well rounded team, and its designed to take on OTHER full teams. a solo mon can easily beat her
@halcryof282410 ай бұрын
the issue with cynthia is more that if you level a full team and are just playing for fun, leveling the pokemon you like, you will be underleveld or even, with lacking type coverage, whilst garchomp can threaten a sweep and every of her pokemon is pretty strong as well. Just watch SilphSpectres normal type nuzlocke, he almost lost with a prepared team that had type coverage.
@JJ-qo7th10 ай бұрын
Also, while the internet was definitely a thing for Gen 1 and Gen 2, it wasn't as widespread, and game design didn't take gamefaqs in mind as much.

Small correction: Steel still resists Dark and Ghost in generation 4, so the Shadow Force against Bronzong was not super effective. On a different note, it's awesome to see you learn Platinum. :) The learning curve between gens 3 and 4 is pretty steep and I think the repeat playthroughs will be very interesting once you have some more experience.

I very rarely comment, but felt the need to leave a suggestion for a possible final battle like Red, Steven Stone and Oak. I know these runs take a while so I totally understand why one hasn't been included. Cynthia (as well as the rest of the Elite Four) actually has one more team with levels in the mid to high 70s. It could make for an interesting endgame challenge and make the champion, well, actually the champion. It doesn't take that much longer to get there, but with these runs already having a very long playtime I get that it isn't likely to get included. Still, it would make me a very happy viewer! Thank you so much for playing my favourite generation.

In order to fight the Cynthia rematch in pokemon platinum you need to complete the stark mountain storyline. To unlock the area, you first need to have every pokemon in the sinnoh Dex registered as “seen”, so it will take a lot of time

Hey Scott, I can't thank you enough for this full month of great runs, you and the whole team behind these videos did an outstanding job, and I hope you all feel proud of it! Obviously, I'll miss these videos now that they'll stop being daily, but that schedule would never be sustainable, so of course go whatever schedule fits you best. Regarding this video in particular, I liked that it was a general review of the game after these first sets of runs. I noticed you said Shadow Force is super effective against Bronzing, but it's actually neutral, because in this generation Steel still resists Ghost (and Dark). That only changed in Gen VI. You'll notice your move power calculator took that into account. See you next year! And thanks again for all this work.

Very good run! My guess is that the Griseous Orb's boost to offensive stats and 20% boost to Dragon and Ghost type moves would outweigh flexibility to choose an item and make Origin Forme faster overall. I have to complain a bit about the plot tier list. Why should gen 3 be first place? If you look into the motivation of Team aqua and Magma is so trivial and actually bad. thank you so much Scott for these videos, they're so calming and regular, and informative in terms of the games. especially thanks for all the hard work for Daily December. I love how you're constantly improving the overlay, it already looks really nice and makes everything easy to follow, and it just keeps getting better. Pokemon Platinum definitely redeemed Sinnoh for me because it did away with some of the key flaws of Diamond/Pearl, buffing the Pokedex and team strength of the opponents. I still feel like the options were a bit too limited, and the overall structure of the region is not my favorite. thinking back on it, RSE really became my 'home games', and I compared everything else to them going forward. but the Unova games also felt similarly comforting once I got used to their rhythms, and became the last set of Pokemon games that felt really comfy to play. I'm looking forward to whenever the HGSS series starts, presumably in a year or two, because I'll be really curious to see how different they play compared to Crystal. they're certainly not as painfully slow as the Sinnoh games, and I'm not entirely sure why.

Really appreciated the effort that went into daily december! Enjoy the month off the produced videos :D! One thought for a minor overlay detail for platinum. You know how if you open your badge case in these games, the badges get rusty and old-looking over time? It would be a neat addition if they did something similar in the overlay, giving a neat little visual for the pokemon's pace through the game (maybe 15-30 minutes real time from obtaining them, they degrade one stage depending on how many stages there actually are). A really slow pokemon might have them completely degrade in appearance before finishing if the final rival/elite four/champion were rough, or just the first seven if final Cyrus is the sticking point. A middle-of-the road pokemon might have noticeably more rusty badges before a problem gym, whereas something like a more optimized Giratina might have very little rusting at all.

pretty sure its the first time i commented, but i have been watching your content for a long time, the quality has steadily improved and its a great production to watch, as a big gen 4 fan myself (this was peak pokemon in my opinion, still had "early gen charm" and fixed most of the issues of the first gens by this point) i feel like i have to remind you that steel still resists dark and ghost so shadow force was not super effective against bronzong, great content as always, happy new year and i am looking forward to another year of diverse content, a pokemon i am really looking forward too and hope will have a place this year would be the Magnezone line, i really liked magneton and the electric type from gen 1 and i was happy for it to get some love, speaking of i believe for fully evolved pokemon it will have a very hard time due to bad matchup in the late game without the use of hidden power ice/grass (depending on which pokemon are the bigger threat but due to its massive special attack i believe ice should be superior) and will need careful moveset planning to deal with the late game threats, this would be a nice change of pace for the series as late game seems to be a mostly a pushover due to overleveling for the few mid game struggles each pokemon has or if none the late use of close to 20 rare candies

You might consider the Rocket plotline of Gen 2 boring but I can stand it on the ground feet that it makes sense. Team Rocket reappears it continues standard mafia crimes like the Slowpoke one and wants their boss back. Gen 3 has enviromental terrorists that keep making stupid decisions upon stupid decisions on the ground off of their leaders thinking that *"water gives life so more water should be good"* or *"we live on land so more of it will be great"* and that's it when the damage is done and they can't control Groudon and Kyogre they instantly repent on their actions... Yeah cause throwing fuel to make a volcano erupt was already a great idea Team Magma ¬_¬ In contrast to this I really enjoy how Cyrus blatantly tells you he's tricking his own organization with the promise of a new better world when what he actually wants is delete the universe to create one without emotions and feelings... Yeah he's kinda nuts the game implies he always seemed like this as an NPC in the 8th gym town tells you he prefered the company of machines when he was a kid I find him a bit fascinating cause some people interpret him like he had some kind of trauma that lend him off to that objective I personally find more amusing to think there's no true reason besides him not comprehending emotions and just thinking any living being will be better without them. I like the mini-episode 11 of Pokémon Generations covering the Spear Pillar event and how when trapped in the Distortion World he's just satiesfied with the emptiness of said world. So all in all I find him a solid threat and villain though it could have been improved... Maybe doing something with Mesprit being his total opposite dunno also I wonder how the manga handles him. My favorite villain teams are Team Skull and Team Star though I find it better when Pokémon stakes are not necessarily world ending conflicts and more character driven.

I keep coming to your videos because of how impressive the production values are and how infectious your enthusiasm for these games is. You are a very personable narrator as well. This December marathon has been a lot of fun to watch. I hope you have nice January and that you continue loving what you do. Happy New Year!

Well, that was a fun month in terms of Pokemon Solo run videos and now you really deserve a break, even besides december the output of videos was kind of insane. Though after your comments at 51:32 I now expect a video/a series on the music in the Pokemon games some time

I started watching your videos around the end of November, so I've definitely been spoiled by daily December. It's gonna feel weird when you go back to your normal schedule.

Thank you for the year! It was also good to hear your views on generations thus far (which I agree and disagree but meh). I'm looking forward to seeing how you evolve as a player and a content creator. Both are giving me a nice boost to try my own things out. Secretly I wait as well as you jump into Gen2 remakes.

Have a great January, Scott! Daily December was certainly a gift that kept on giving. Giratina is a very cool Pokémon to end off on. I've grown to really enjoy your videos, so hopefully if I'm not busy I will swing by to see your streams

Scott!!! If you set your playthroughs to always be on a Friday, a Driftloon will be in the over world at Valley Windworks. You can easily catch that, and use it to walk Amity Square. Plus, it can learn "cut" and "defog", so it isn't useless. Happy New Year btw! Thanks for all you do.

I had a pretty stressful time in December, so I completely missed the daily uploads, but I'll just say, this is impressive (rewatching it) Your review of Gen4 makes me a little envious. The Sinnoh games are my least replayed, as I can't enjoy them as much as I'd like to. Something about the pace, but also the Pokemon distribution (having some of the strongest right out of the starting town, among others). The region layout itself, I actually like a lot, though I prefer DP's choice of route after Hearthome more than Platinum's way of doing it.

Thanks for these videos and the great content man. Your narrative style and calm videos are a breath of fresh air among the usual hyped type of poketuber. Happy new year bro

I played more Pearl than Plat, but my favorite things about the gen was how if you fought every single trainer and talked to everyone, your Pokedex would be 100% for seen (well, except event pokemon). Also I like how the statue of the legendary pokemon looks like both palkia and dialga at the same time due to optical illusion.
