Kabuto Only - Pokemon Yellow

Playthrough Rules:
1. Only my starter in battle
2. No items in battle (except held items)
3. No glitches or exploits*
4. No Double-Team TM before level 100*
Other rules:
-- My Pokemon have perfect genetics to ensure fair comparison between species.
-- *Pokeballs & Pokedolls are allowed in battle
-- *The badge-boost glitch is not restricted at all
-- *Skipping the Rocket Hideout & Marowak is allowed
-- I play the game at 4x game speed (238 frames per second)
-- My Pokemon has perfect DVs
-- The Trash-Can-Puzzle is automatically solved so times are not affected by RNG
-- The bike is allowed (the bike skip is not)
-- Skipping the bike is not allowed
-- Saving between league members is allowed
-- If the solo Pokemon faints and I choose to blackout it counts towards my reset counter
-- I can pause the game & timer to take breaks
-- The footage is sped up / slowed down to match the pace of my narration
*Double-Team:
-- Almost every Pokemon can learn Double-Team through TM
-- The TM can be purchased in Celadon
-- Using it would centralize the meta
-- Every Pokemon would use it to overcome tough battles at lower levels
-- It raises evasion
-- It triggers the badge boost
-- Banning the TM allows Pokemon who learn it through level up to use it
-- I believe evasion is part of Pokemon and shouldn't be banned entirely
-- I don't want the videos to all be double-team spam though, that's not fun or entertaining
-- Only two Pokemon learn Double-Team through level up: Pikachu & Scyther
-- Minimize is the other evasion raising move, these Pokemon learn it through level up:
-- Clefairy, Clefable, Grimer, Muk, Chansey, Staryu
Yellow Version changes from Red/Blue:
1. You cannot use Dig/Escape Ropes in Bill's House or the Pokefan Club
2. You cannot talk to the trainers in Blaine's gym to battle them
3. Surge, Sabrina, and Blaine do not have Good AI
4. The Elite Four have better movesets
5. Koga, Sabrina, Blaine, and Giovanni have higher level teams
6. Blaine doesn't use Super Potions are full HP
7. The rival picks his eeveelution based on the outcome of the first two battles.
-- Lose in the lab: Vaporeon
-- Win in the lab and skip route 22: Flareon*
-- Win in both locations: Jolteon
-- *You cannot lose on route 22 because you blackout

-- STAB
-- Same-Type-Attack-Bonus - a 1.5x damage multiplier
-- Stat Experience
-- The Gen1&2 equivalent of effort values. You can invest in all stats until they max
out at 65535
-- DVs or Determinate Values
-- The Gen1&2 equivalent of IVs (individual values), these range from 0-15

The helmet, the horseshoe crab, the demon himself - Kabuto! Looking forward to this one. I know I know I ALWAYS write this, but it is always true and always with a reason. It is a cherrished memory my wife told me about from the time she and her sister played pokemon blue version as kids. They shared one game and always talked about what to name a Pokemon, so both were happy to have´em on the team. And Kabuto was named Kubota as a silly wordplay on Kabuto. Since then they would one refer to this Pokemon as Kubota. And now even I do it. everytime we catch or get a Kabuto - it´s gettin named Kubota.

Return of the true king, child of the dark lord... something tells me he will struggle. Hopefully you remembered to get rest for Kabuto's first playthrough haha. Looking forward to it since I have always chosen Kabuto over Omanyte, still nutty that the only rock move it could've had were: Rock throw and Rockslide, moves it would not get until the latter with generation 3. Otherwise, nothing. Ancient power at level 59 in gen 2. Rock Tomb in gen 3 maybe Hidden Power but you wouldn't want to waste it for a rock move. To the all mighty Helmet!

Also, I know it's nothing new obut I absolutely love the little emotions the pokemon goes through over the video. Kabutos Fight Face is awesome. These little things make your vids so high quality imho 'cause it's really not necessary for the content type you're doing but it's such a nice little touch. The uuuhm "dark overlay" when you highlight stats or moves or w/e is really good to bring your point across but my heart skips a beat every time 'cause it's the same amount of darkening that my laptop screen will apply when almost out of battery xD

You've turned these videos into such a craft over which you are the master. With everything you've put into that Exp Mapping tool, I wouldn't be surprised if it got the point that you only need 2 playthroughs with each Pokemon. The first playthrough being to familiarize yourself, and the second coming after you've mapped out the perfect route for Exp and just dominate the run.

That was a great run! 👏👏👏👏Kabuto was super adorable with these facial expressions 😁. I can't believe how bad aerodactyl was in gen 1,that even the first stage of the Kabuto line can be better than it. 😅 I hop that in gen 2 aerodactyl would be better 😊. I thought that Kabuto would have to struggle more during the league, because of it's limited movepool, and it's low special stat. But these results were kind of a surprise to me. 🤔Having a sub hour and 20 minutes time for a first stage pokemon is really good. Thanks for explaining about the software of the rby router, I think that I'm going to use that too, in my gen 1 runs. By the way, that oak fight was epic. Arcanine's roar was the highlight of that fight🤣. And like always, thanks for making me have such a great time. 😁

I wonder how much you and your girlfriend laugh at the sheer amount of PP puns in the video. Keep up the great work, Scott, and btw, the sofware you use to update live status and the XP router are both amazing, and the live status adds a significant amount of value to the video, being able to see exactly how stats are calculated and how badge-boosts setups works makes the fights a lot more understandable, and a lot less like "RPG RNG"

Actually those things on the bottom are Kabuto’s laser holes. Used for defending against its natural predator, Venomoth. Because Venomoth is a pure dark type it’s weak to laser type attack.

Watching this video after the halloween video, I can't help but think that some "What if" runs might be a lot of fun. Not just later gen pokemon in Yellow, but maybe stuff like, "What if the fossil pokemon got Rock Slide?" At the Very least the Kabuto/Kabutops line could benefit from it a lot, so that might be fun to add to a theiretical 'what if?' tier list for gen 1

Hey Scott, random thought, have you ever thought about modding your first-stage runs where the Pokémon doesn't/can't evolve? Dome/Kabuto is the best fossil because it's the only one based off a creature that's still alive today (horseshoe crab). Literally out-survived the dinosaurs, the ice ages, and humanity.

YES, I literally said yesterday on the Omanyte video that I beat Yellow as a kid with Kabutops only, easily my favourite first generation pokemon. Since it evolves kind of late (at 40) you end up playing a lot of the game with Kabuto so this was my childhood.

Holy smokes, just goes to show how much your routing has improved since the Fossil Ultramathon for pokemon Yellow! your second Playthrough with Kabuto more or less beat your Kabutops run by a good portion (though, it was slower than it's more optimized playthough but, that makes sense; since when have you heard of a pre-evo getting better results that it's other stages of evolution? XD)

Granted, the final stages didn’t use rare candies. That’s the major ruleset difference. I plan to do an update for that video in the future to get more directly comparable times.
