Playthrough Rules:
1. Only my starter in battle
2. No items in battle (except held items)
3. No glitches or exploits*
4. No Double-Team TM before level 100*
Other rules:
-- My Pokemon have perfect genetics to ensure fair comparison between species.

-- *The badge-boost glitch is not restricted at all
-- *Skipping the Rocket Hideout & Marowak is allowed
-- I play the game at 4x game speed (238 frames per second)
-- My Pokemon has perfect DVs
-- The Trash-Can-Puzzle is automatically solved so times are not affected by RNG
-- The bike is allowed (the bike skip is not)
-- Skipping the bike is not allowed
-- Saving between league members is allowed
-- If the solo Pokemon faints and I choose to blackout it counts towards my reset counter
-- I can pause the game & timer to take breaks
-- The footage is sped up / slowed down to match the pace of my narration
*Double-Team:
-- Almost every Pokemon can learn Double-Team through TM
-- The TM can be purchased in Celadon
-- Using it would centralize the meta
-- Every Pokemon would use it to overcome tough battles at lower levels
-- It raises evasion
-- It triggers the badge boost
-- Banning the TM allows Pokemon who learn it through level up to use it
-- I believe evasion is part of Pokemon and shouldn't be banned entirely
-- I don't want the videos to all be double-team spam though, that's not fun or entertaining
-- Only two Pokemon learn Double-Team through level up: Pikachu & Scyther
-- Minimize is the other evasion raising move, these Pokemon learn it through level up:
-- Clefairy, Clefable, Grimer, Muk, Chansey, Staryu
Yellow Version changes from Red/Blue:
1. You cannot use Dig/Escape Ropes in Bill's House or the Pokefan Club
2. You cannot talk to the trainers in Blaine's gym to battle them
3. Surge, Sabrina, and Blaine do not have Good AI
4. The Elite Four have better movesets
5. Koga, Sabrina, Blaine, and Giovanni have higher level teams
6. Blaine doesn't use Super Potions are full HP
7. The rival picks his eeveelution based on the outcome of the first two battles.

To use a Gym Leader Matt line from when he ran Onix. You embraced the grind with Rhyhorn and it ended up paying off. You didn't go into it looking to scrape through fights where you have a type disadvantage; you knew Rhyhorn was going to be a pain in the arse against pretty much any special attacks so you shored up his weaknesses. Great play and great video as always. Rhydon is my favourite of all pokemon and I think you did the baby boy justice.

rhydon is actually a beast in gen 1 competitive you almost never see water or grass moves and his earthquake is the strongest no draw back physical attack, does incredible things like cleanly two hit koing chansey, it also can kind of use substitute properly because of his immunity to thunder wave

Scott, on the first attempt when geovanni's dugtrio used dig, you could have used dig as well. Since your pokémon was slower than dugtrio, you should have avoid damage and hit the dugtrio too.

I was so nervous this whole video! Hahaha. This was actually a tough challenge. I’m surprised of the outcome. I didn’t think that would be the case at all. But soon as you didn’t buy the max carbos I knew it would be an issue in the end. Still your strategy worked to perfection. I never realized how low the speed and the special are on this thing! I honestly never realized it. No wonder growing up no matter what moves I had and level he never did as good as he could with special attacks and why even first stage pokemon would always move first lol. Good video though! Commenting before premiere. I'm expecting this one to be very interesting. There will be portions of the game that Rhyhorn just steamrolls; high HP and Defense mean that Rhyhorn tanks physical hits well, and high Attack means it can dish out good damage. On the other hand, between low Speed, low Special, being in the Slow level-up group, and having two double-weaknesses that are both Special, there will also be portions where Rhyhorn struggles mightily. While it does have access to Thunderbolt and Fire Blast, those don't really help; Rhyhorn's Special is too low to take advantage of them, plus Fire Blast comes too late to be a good option against Grass-types anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if a Thunderbolt from Rhyhorn can't even OHKO any of the Gyarados it has to face, despite the double-weakness. Not helping the cause, Rhyhorn has no access to moves to let it set up the Badge Boost Glitch. I expect that Rhyhorn is mostly just going to have to depend on Body Slam and its STAB moves. Luckily, it does get Rock Slide, Dig, and Earthquake by TM, and Rock + Ground is a pretty good STAB combo, even considering Rock Slide's middling power and annoyingly-imperfect accuracy. Also, I'm expecting the Brock split to be less than ideal, since Rhyhorn literally has no options for that part of the game other than "spam Horn Attack".

Did you ever consider thunder against some of the cloysters? I was thinking about it the whole time, cuz your special ratio is slightly better than your physical ratio against the cloysters at every step (to varying degrees). Whilst thunder is only 70% accurate, if it guarantees a one shot that can still be really helpful! (Plus using it on just one mon ain't too bad. Notably only 1/9th of the time is does a guaranteed 1 shot thunder take longer than a guaranteed 2 shot thunderbolt (ignoring your rare crits). Anyways, fun run! Rhyhorn is probably my favourite gen 1 rock type!

First of all: Great Video keep it up! What I was wondering though with the stat experience, does that mean even at like a Level 100 if you continue killing Pokemon, does your Pokemons power increase indefinitely or is there like a stat cap?

The reason why Instant KO moves are innacruate or useless usually is that was kind of how RPG balanced their Instant Death moves. Thought of very accuate Instand Death attack on enemies would have been on Game Freak's mind and Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori's Dragon Quest 2(The game that inspired the trading mechanic and gambling in Pokemon) as that one has a very reliable one known as Sacrifice or Kamikaze depending on the version and one of the Random encounter enemies that drops the Mad Cap has the Spell. So there may also be a grudge there too.

Rhyhorn is one of those pokemon that I never used for a very long time. There are always other rock/ground types that you encounter much earlier in the game and I usually caught a geodude in the early gens. Eventually I finally used one and really liked it. Its speed and special stats are terrible, but it's really good at what it does and you didn't need to trade to get to its final evolution. They changed that in gen 4, but that just made rhydon better if you're in a game with an eviolite. I still only rarely use it, but I really like it. It can also get some pretty interesting moves.

I always liked Rhyhorn as a kid, and at first didn't understand why it auto lost to so many special attacks. It had so much defense, and as long as I stayed away from Water and Grass stuff, I wouldn't have a double weakness right? This was children me not knowing that special was also special defense, and also thinking that Psychic Pokemon were even more dope than they actually are. Soon after, I figured out how those valued actually worked, but for a little bit there was definitely more than a little bewilderment, especially since Rhyhorn came from the special Safari zone and was well, supposed to be special. He still is, but there was a learning experience for sure and it was the first time where I began to use math in the real world.

I underestimated the rock/grounds as a kid. Some of the few dual types in gen 1, and both have their uses. Yeah they're really easy to take down, but they're also incredibly powerful in the right situation. Once I started adding Geodude to my party, the games have gotten a lot more fun. Switch them in to any electric, poisons, or normals, or anything else that looks physical, almost for free. And very easy to train with their resistance to most the common types in the game. I wish Rhyhorn/don were better though. No useful moves on levelup, slow leveling, you get them so late, and they evolve so late. It's a good replacement for Graveler if you can't trade, and if you keep earthquake and rock slide for him. But it's a lot of effort. Man trading really helps in gen 1 and 2.

One of the things I predicted with this run is that most of it would end up being really easy, for really one reason exactly: Rhyhorn has to massively overlevel for Misty. But Rhyhorn's surprisingly good HP does actually make it pretty tanky against random special attacks. Obviously it could be better, but for a first stage Pokemon, 80 HP is really good! But that there would be massive walls to overcome and yeah, they're there. Really the issue is Rhyhorn's Speed at the end of the day and the fact that Cloyster is just so physically defensive. But what's interesting is that by the time you outspeed a notable opponent...Rhyhorn tends to OHKO them with one of its STAB moves. Just how it goes. Top of E-tier is honestly kind of impressive, and I'm really curious how Geodude compares. On one hand, its HP stat is a lot worse than Rhyhorn and its even slower than Rhyhorn is. But, importantly, it has a Medium Slow growth rate, so it should spend a lot less time training.

My theory on gen 1 movesets is that they're intentionality shallow to amplify the value of the trainer. This was gen 1 after all, and pokemon was still figuring itself out. An electric type wild pokemon is cool but you as the trainer make it valuable with thunderbolt.
