A bit of a random painting to end up like this considering how it started! Hope you enjoy the journey!
The colours used were:
Winsor Red
Raw Sienna
Mix of Winsor Blue (red shade) and Light Red
Burnt Umber
Cobalt Blue
Mix of Veridian, French Ultra and Burnt Umber
A lot of spraying
This was painted on a full sheet of Rives BFK etching paper 280gsm white 56cm x 76cm
The brushes used were mostly hake brushes of all sizes as you can see. 1 inch up to 4 inch hake brushes and of course the spray bottle.
I was happy with the result in the end but the painting in the beginning got completely lost!
The next video will have a plan!
Happy painting everyone!
Cheers
Scott

@@kj3dots hi Kathy! Sorry it is hard to keep up with everyone’s replies! The best/cheapest paper I can find here in Australia is Hahnemuhle etching paper. It is $12 Australian a full sheet. Any other country would be cheaper. It is 75% cotton snd 25% pulp. It is really good! That’s my best suggestion. Good luck! And I would use cotman paints (student quality) 👍👍

Hi Scott, I've just started watching your videos and I'm entranced by the process! and the results, of course! I'm going to have a go at this very very soon. In fact, as soon as I've stopped procrastinating! I''m planning to use Correx plastic sheets instead of that heavy board you're using because my arms/wrists etc just aren't up to manouevering that weight. Correx sheets are plastic corrugated (sometimes called fluted) with smooth sides and are rigid. Sometimes I glue 2 of them together for extra strength and rigidity and I use them in place of drawing boards for all kinds of projects. You can stick corkboard-type pins in them too, and they're easy to clean due to the plastic surface. Why am I writing all this about plastic corrugated sheets? I suppose just in case anyone else doesn't have the strength etc, and wants to try them instead of wood. Thanks for uploading your videos showing your fantastic paintings. :)

You remind me of Jackson Pollack at work, and l *love* that your paintings reflect how much energy you exert. One question: you use so many colours l would never think to use, like the pink at the beginning. Do you think you could have eliminated any of the colours in the process and still have achieved a similar result, or does each colour contribute to more drama and depth? Ty, from the foothills of Alberta ("Heartland" country).

@dearbh1736 3 жыл бұрын
@@ScottSwinson I think once you get the hang of using them, the Hake is a brilliant brush - so versatile with so many different kind of marks you can make and they hold so much paint. The hair shedding can be a bit of a pain but I have learned to just leave them, for the most part, until the painting has dried and carefully remove the hairs then. This is a marvellous demo showing the Hake doing it's thing - in the right hands 😁
