@bsmith4u2 Great question. I owned the first Honda with cylinder deactivation. It was a 2008 Accord with a 3.5 liter engine that started using oil at around 120,000 miles. The car was maintained by the book, literally. By 150,000 miles it was using a quart every 1,000 miles. And it had several other issues. One being the front cam shaft had to be replaced because a love has become pitted. It was basically worthless at 150,000 miles. We “traded”, i.e. gave it to a Toyota dealer for a 2016 4Runner SR5 4WD. Which was a fabulous car and zero problems at 80k miles.

I was also a longtime 2004 manual 4-banger Tacoma owner, and when I got a new job that I had to drive through downtown LA all the time, I needed to go for an automatic truck when I got to 200K miles on my Tacoma. I test drove the Chevy Colorado, the Ford Maverick, a new Tacoma, and then the Ridgeline. I dont ever tow, I just move large furniture, tool boxes, or lumber for small construction projects, and go mountain biking all the time. The Ridgeline was the smoothest truck I have ever driven, it had more space, more storage space, more features, wider bed, and it got a lot better gas mileage than the competition. I average 20 mpg in the city. (I also still have my little Tacoma for dirty jobs - like going to the dump or getting 12 ft 2x4s)

Got a 23 Ridgeline. We love it. The trunk is the best. We fit all our beach gear including 3 boogie boards in there. We also tow 2 jet skis to the lake no problem. At the boat ramp, other trucks slip and slide on the slippery surface trying to get out. The Ridgeline has never had a problem. Unfortunately, my wife liked it so much too, we are running up the mileage pretty fast. Knowing it's a Honda, at least it will last. Got a 2008 Ridgeline in 2010 with 23,000 miles. This baby is running like a top with over 175,000 miles today. I test drove the Tacoma and Ridgeline back then. The Ridgeline was light years better. People complained they didn’t like the looks. Lol. Wonder how many trucks they’ve had to buy since. If I wanted to tow a huge RV I wouldn’t get any mid size truck. For me, I’ve stuck two 11.5’ kayaks in the bed and two 11.5’ paddle boards on the roof for a great family day at the beach! I’ve put four road bikes in the bed and headed to the bike trail. This truck is awesome. I want a new one so bad, but can’t seem to let go of such a reliable Honda truck. But, rest assured I will eventually replace it with another Ridgeline!

It's not a girly truck. Rather it's for someone like me who lives in a townhouse and doesn't need a 1 ton work truck. What I need is something that fits in a small garage, carries bikes, bookshelves, odd dump run (don't mind taking 2 trips) etc. The ridgeline more than does that job.

I live on 8 acres of land. I have a 23 ridgeline and a 14 foot long trailer I keep on the property. Trailer weighs around 1500lbs so that gives me around 2000lbs payload on the trailer. That's enough for either my commercial zero turn or my small John Deere 1023 tractor. I honestly have never run into a situation where I needed more truck. When I get gravel or dirt for the property I hire a semi truck to deliver it. Having a trailer increases the usability by a lot.

I've got a 2020 E level, one down from the Black edition. I tow a 7x14 enclosed trailer pulling heavy motorcycles, furniture, and construction stuff at times. It's done 600 miles one way pulling the trailer loaded cross country, no problem. The V6 does well overall and it is the best riding pickup ever owned. I've owned 1/2, 3/4 and now a 1 ton pickup, no comparison in ride and interior space. I have a neighbor with a 2020 Tacoma that I've been in multiple times and it feels dated and rides very harsh in comparison. I watched another youtuber who did an off-road comparison between the Ridgeline, the Tacoma and the Chev. It did everything the other two did except for a nasty rock crawl. Didn't want to risk it because it only has 9" of clearance. (who cares, how many people go rock climbing with these trucks) Deep snow, mud and hill climbs all done well. It even climbed one steep, rutted hill that stopped the Chev and Toyota! Honda went right up in it's standard all wheel drive configuration and stock tires. Amazing. This is my everday driver as well and it performs perfectly. It's a keeper for sure.

So I had the radiator, alternator, water pump, PCV valve, steering rack, timing belt, Cracked hoses, connectors & all suspension components replaced, valves adjusted, & more and now I feel like it will outlast me. $7500 as opposed to $45,000 for a new Ridgeline & mine has a key instead of the push button start and none of the start/stop stuff. 6:49

You don't buy a 1 ton to drive around in for sure or a 3/4 ton. A ridgeline for a uber job? Not the best choice for sure. i picked up a 2024 Black Edition .. really great truck.. i dont tow or off road but the useability and practicality of the Ridgeline is great . it drives more like an suv..its quick comfortable and quiet. drives great... i recommend it for sure.. but if you have to tow more than 5000lbs and do real off roading then there are many other trucks to choose from.. the ridgeline isnt trying to be that type of truck.. its doing its own thing..

Tested Maverick and Ridgeline. Yes Ridgeline is nice for sure.. but I became seriously impressed with Maverick hybrid having already both a Toyota and Honda hybrid. If you want the closest thing to a Ridgeline RTL and want good mpg you have to buy the Lariat hybrid. Its comfy enough and even smoother transmission. Fun. I'm getting 45mpg.. yes even better than advertised. Feels very toyota in how the hybrid engages. Pretty impressed so far and I was very skeptical.

Had a 2020 Ridgeline. Mileage is excellent. Comfortable. Never left me stranded. Developed one problem. My iPhone charger cable shorted the info system and was covered by warranty. Only thing was it would take over three weeks to get the display replaced because of back log of electronics components. If it were an engine replacement, it would’ve taken a couple of days. “Just use your iPhone as a display till it’s fixed.” I said for that I might as well get a new truck. My 2023 runs like a clock. Just drove to Florida, Georgia and back to Philly without missing a beat. Averaged about 28 mpg. I loved my Tacoma , great truck but so is my Ridgeline.

I had to go up to the local mountains one weekend during a very heavy snowfall. There was a chain stop on the way up with a long line of cars and trucks waiting for the chain monkeys to install the chains on their vehicles. I rolled up to the stop and the officer asked if I had chains for my truck, I said yes which was a lie, and he waved me on through. I was able to drive up to my daughters camp with no problems, even though there was already a foot of snow on the ground. I made it all the way there and the way back no problem.

I purchased a 2023 Ridgeline last March, and one of my friends at work asked me jokingly “Did that car come with a free box of tampons?” (Which I must admit was pretty funny and made me laugh)! 😂. I simply responded “No - I didn’t. Are you telling me I got ripped off?” I’m very, very happy with the car. It’s not perfect, the automatic cruise control and the automatic high/low headlight beam control both objectively suck - especially compared to our Subaru outback, which has excellent electronics. But the Ridgeline’s combination of a smooth ride, good handling, great powertrain, comfort, utility, and economy - as well as the anticipated above average reliability, made this the right choice for me. Additionally, it’s the only truck in the segment that has a comfortable rear seat. Many, many reviewers state that this is the truck 90% of truck owners need. I believe the only thing that keeps sales relatively low for this car is peoples egos. But hey! I think I look pretty cool in my Honda Ridgeline!

I'm a simple guy. I have a Nissan Frontier (RH), it's diesel manual shift, and I'm fine. The only thing I would've loved was LSD as most time I am 2-wheeling. I think that LSD should be standard on all pick-up trucks that doesn't have all time 4 wheel drive, it does improve the handling a great deal.

My father has a 08 Ridgeline and it’s a great truck. Not a fan of a short bed but I like driving it. I currently own a 11 CR-V and it drives similar to the Ridgeline. If I were to buy a small truck I would definitely go with a Ridgeline.

I never had a truck and never did my family until I bought a 2019 Ridgeline. I loved it for it’s ride and spacious interior. I found it very handy as well. I then gave it to my son and bought a 2023 Ridgeline. I like that it has a locking tailgate and wider rear door opening now but hate the start/stop feature. I am going to see if this is going to be my last vehicle. I am 61 now.

I bought a sub 18,000 mile 2020 last December and I absolutely love it. Hauling my Harley and my small camper it’s all the truck I need and want. It rides like a dream and it averages 22-24 mpg as a daily driver.

I had an 08 Ridgeline I bought with 80k miles on it. Trading it in 6 years later was my biggest vehicle mistake yet. It was paid off, only had 130k miles... if only then I had a little Scotty on my shoulder that would have talked sense into me.

I've noticed that you rarely see used Ridgelines for sale and when you do they are usually 300k + miles. That is quite an endorsement.

You rarely see used Ridgelines because they are expensive for a small truck and people owe more than the vehicle is worth so they can't sell.

For people that actually used pick ups for what they’re intended for, ridgelines are what they stuff, and each other’s Christmas stockings. It’s an SUV without a trunk so they save on metal and trunk door.

How about all the issues honda is having with the crankshaft and bearings in the 3.5 v6 ridgeline engines? He didn’t mention that. He doesn’t like mavericks because they are made in mexico but talks about how great tacoma trucks are but they are made in mexico. People like to believe what they want to believe not what reality is……

It’s also ~$17,000 more expensive, so it’s not marketed to the same audience. It’s not an apples to apples comparison.

I'm clueless. What's a VCM muzzler?
@PaulieB1965
@PaulieB1965 7 ай бұрын
Yup, because it tricks the computer into thinking the coolant is cooler than it actually is, auto start /stop is disabled too as it only enables at a higher engine temp. Kill two birds with one stone. VCM is completely unnecessary and causes too many issues if left enabled, imho. I had it on my 2017 ridge and moved it to my 2021 the day I bought it.

@@mackmcmillan9905 VCM stands for variable cylinder management. The vcm muzzler eliminates that. I've got one installed on my Honda Pilot and it works perfectly. I was unaware that that it would disable the stop/start function

@@mackmcmillan9905 , VCM stands for variable cylinder management. It makes the engine run on three cylinders in a ridiculous attempt to improve fuel economy. I never noticed a difference after I installed it on my first truck. Google it and you’ll see what it’s all about.

I've got 245,000 miles on my 06 RTL, and it's still a great truck. The first generation Ridgelines, while classified as a unibody, have a full perimeter frame - it just happens to be solidly welded to the body. I don't have much use for a truck designed to tow 15,000 lbs, or put 3,000 in the bed, but I've regularly had 1200 in the bed and have towed 3500 with no issues other than reduced mileage. The AWD (Honda called it 4WD on the 1st generation trucks) works surprisingly well, and I've gone further offroad than people expect. It's not a rock crawler, but it's not going to tip over - it's the widest truck, with the lowest center of gravity in it's class.
