I have to disagree about Honda's Transmission. My sister bought a 93 Honda used with 75,000 miles. By the time she sold it she put a total of 188,000 miles on the car and the car was still in good condition. My sister only took the car to one mechanic she maintained the car with regular tune ups & winterizing. The basic service oil changes The only repair I recall she ever did was changed radiator

I have 1999 Accord with 313,000 and it still runs great with just occasional slips on the transmission and my 2013 Acura TL has 127,000 with absolutely no problem with the transmission. My wife has 07 Civic with 182,000 miles and all she does on that car is oil change but I have seen several friends with Toyota's having transmission and engine problems with less than 150,000 miles. I personally believe Toyota is just as good as Honda, but Honda has a better reliability than Toyota. Scotty like most old people, still believe that Toyota is still the same as they were several years ago but in reality, their reliability has taken a dip over the past few years mostly due to their ambition to become the largest car marker in the world thereby sub-contracting most of their manufacturing process to third parties companies all around the globe.

I've owned 2 Acuras and they both had a faulty air-conditioning system, that the dealership failed to see anything wrong with. When I was ready to sell the car, the same dealership told me they'd pay me $1,000 less than bluebook because the a/c compressor was "shot". The Acura rep also disapproved a warranty repair on me claiming it was my fault. Apparently, a small scratch of the right fender was the "cause" of my cooling system failing. What a load of crap!

Not all Acuras are expensive to fix and maintain, especially if you're a DIYer. The 2004-2008 TSX is a great example and it's what I drive for a daily. Almost all chassis/suspension/brake parts are interchangeable with 2003-07 Accords, and the aftermarket/OEM replacement/eBay/Amazon selection is HUGE. Just about everything can be gotten for cheap and repair isn't horribly difficult for most stuff. Just stay far away from the Acura/Honda stealership for service and they can be cheap and easy to maintain and last just as long as your average older Honda.

I have had several Hondas and drove them trouble free for years. My first Acura was a 99 TL and it went through two broken transmissions. The first time it needed to be replaced, Honda paid for it under warranty. The second time it had to be replaced, I paid for it. Ouch! When the Acura dealership replaced the first one, under warrany, I asked if the known problem in the old one had been fixed in the “new” one. Dealer said, “nope, you will be back to see me again for the same problem.” Turns out, he was right.

A general rule regarding honda/acura vs toyota/lexus is: hondas manual transmissions > toyota, and toyota automatics > honda, in terms of reliability. They both make solid motors, but the transmission will always be the first major component to give on cars. Also, hondas tend to be more sporty and reliable while toyota sticks to reliabe and comftorable
