I drove both a 2023 XSE Camry and a regular 2022 Civic hatchback sport trim a month each. XSE had higher spec but the Civic was was much more fun an pleasant to drive, mode responsive and fun and more economical. The Camry looked good but missed all the other stuff I just mentioned. I wish I could explore more the Civic on windy corner like the HY89 to Prescot in Arizona, I did drive the Camry there and it was fun enough but it did skid/lost traction a little on 20mph corners going at 30 or 35mph. I guess I sorted that after adjusting the tire pressure to 37 rear and 38 on the front on hot day at 109F... Some half of the trip the tires went 1C to 2C higher... Those pressures where adjusted after driving for 2hrs at 105F outside air temp. I stopped multiple times to adjust the tires pressure... I must check how is the pressure in the morning when the tires are cold... Update soon.

The Honda reminds me some of the Cosworth Vega that I had.....I replaced the (misbegotten) injection with a new manifold and 42 DCOE Webers. Those sidedraft carbs gave it some bottom with a strong midrange and upper end. It was super easy to tune and you could wind it up until only dogs could hear it thru the unrestricted exhaust. They told me on a tour of the Chevrolet factory that they used a Cosworth engine to do clutch burst tests because they would reach 10,000 rpm with them. People like zippy cars a lot better than econo-boxes.

19:00 I remember buying race brake pads for my car. I installed them that night in my driveway and called it a night. The next morning I started my car and proceeded to head down the street. When it came time to brake, there was nothing there. Pedal was strong, just not stopping. I kept driving and soon realized you needed to heat these pads up to have any semblance of braking. They ended up being nice in the canyons but stop and go traffic sucked.

@@ThePOPcultureHashira when I say left too much on the table, I mean that there wasn’t enough pep in the step. It’s basically aesthetics. Depending on your area, ants LOVE cars and there doesn't need to be any food or crumbs in the car. In my area, you have to keep ant poison traps in your car to keep them under control. When it rains, water sits in some crevices long enough for ants to drink; and when I park my vehicle and walk away the ants come to the front bumber and windshield to eat the bugs. They find places in the body, under the hood, in the dash or under the trunk liner to make their home. With food, shelter and water they have everything they need to survive. I don't see them in the car during our short winters.

If Honda made the Civic Type-R AWD, I'd probably have that over my STi, lol. The Type-R is one brilliant piece of Honda engineering. So gorgeous, and brilliant straight off the lot. However, the lack of AWD is what killed it for me. Living in WNY (Buffalo) I'm quite accustomed to heavy snow falls. I like knowing that my car will RIP through ANYTHING Buffalo throws at it. That AWD powered by a turbocharged flat 4 makes this car pretty much unstoppable. Or unstuckable? Lol. Regardless, Subaru struck the perfect blend of technology and driver experience with the VA STi (2015 - 2021). It's not so much tech that it becomes annoying (i.e. lacks Eyesight, Dynamic Brake Assist, HVAC controls being integrated into the infotainment system, etc), but just enough to get all the modern ideal amenities (BT connectivity, small touch screen for the basics, ACTUAL DIALS for my HVAC controls but integrated climate control in the MID, and other legitimately useful stuff). The VB WRX (2022+) is a step up in many ways from the VA platform, however it is starting to suffer from the current "too much technology" trend that's going on in the automotive market. That coupled with the facts Subaru killed the STi trim level, AND locked in the GT spec with a damn CVT... it's also a step back in other ways. If I can't row through the gears with a 3rd pedal being part of the equation, it's just not the same. Heck, if it was a DCT, I'd shut the Hell up right here and now. Nope.... just HAD to be a Subaru Performance Transmission (a colorful way of saying Glorified CVT).

Miata looks great, I drove the 1992 model in California for a week back in 1992 🙂, it was nice. Would love to get the new one
