I've always worked on my own cars since I've been old enough to own one. The more you can do yourself, the less you can get ripped off! I've replaced brakes, rotors, batteries, alternators, radiators, serpentine belt s, light bulbs, fuses mufflers and hoses, You can't do everything, but the more you can do yourself, the more you save and you know it's done right!😁

I always bought the official service manual for whatever vehicle I had. And I went and bought every tool they stated in the manual. Then put them aside to work specifically on that vehicle. Which a lot of times I bought separate versions of the same tool(s). I had my little 4x4 space specifically setup for working on that vehicle. Like I just did the same with an evo sportster I just purchased, but living in an apartment I bought a pack out system from Milwaukee and put everything in there. Plus a couple totes and a had a stainless steel 3x4 table from a truckstop I acquired to work on stuff. I put their 3x8 table in my kitchen I’m redoing.

I figure the tools that are an absolute must are a good socket set with 3/8" and 1/2" adapters, high quality screwdrivers, and the longest breaker bar you can find. You use those simple tools more than anything else. Along with a good, high output flashlight. You will need that at some point.

Scotty, I admire the work you do and appreciate your advice, hooked from the first video I saw! Wanted your advice on a mid range pickup truck. I know you are a diehard toyota advocate, what's your opinion on the mitsubishi l200 turbo diesel 2.4? Do you think it's worth buying the standard transmission instead of the automatic. Don't drive that much every day and like dribinh standard allso as an industrial engineer I mostly do all the work in my cars when the warranty expires, so the nissan frontier 6 cylinder is allso in my mind. Hope to find you well and keep up the good work! Daniel Fernández.

So many times I seen people destroy, mess up and cause extra downtime on machines when they use impacts and drills for fasteners. They should only be used to take fasteners off not putting on or you will over tighten, strip out or break fasteners. Use a proper torque wrench on very important critical fasteners.

It used to be if you cut a Harbor Freight wrench with a hacksaw there’d be voids in the metal. I suspect HF’s lawyers realized it would be cheaper to sell decent wrenches than pay for law suits of people who had the wrenches snap and get seriously injured. I’m with Scotty that these days, a HF wrench is probably 95% as good as Snap On. Most of the time that 5% less quality won’t get you into trouble. Husky tools from Home Depot are also generally reasonable as are Kobalt from Lowes. The older Kobalt tools were a little nicer than what is being sold now.

This one has horrible reviews online so I just ordered the the corded Steelman brand myself.

Interesting I've never encountered those crows before. But I did swear a lot trying to deal with small spaces working on a vehicle. That is true about sockets, it doesn't matter if you are careful about them or not these guys do like to get lost sometimes. Funniest I had was when I was replacing parts of suspension on my S210 Mercedes years ago, while it started snowing outside and as one can imagine I had lost a bunch of small sockets that day. lol.

Scotty you need to branch out a little and start giving advice on things other than cars like relationship advice whether it's marital or parental or social - or maybe financial advice - cause you kinda cover that any way with your car advice - I know alot of people that would benefit with your general wisdom and knowledge beyond your knowledge of car repair starting with me !!!
