I've gotten 23-24 mpg on the highway with my 2019 F150 3.5 Eco, and not on short trips but overall on trips of hundreds of miles. The aluminum body saves 700 lbs and I think it helps. And I love Toyota stuff but their new truck is so homely..

Scotty, I have similar but older 2013 F-150 SuperCab with the the 1st Gen Coyote V-8 with nearly 150k miles. I’m the second owner. I routinely average 18-19 mpg driving to work and around town. Just took the truck on long trip to the beach and it worked like a champ on the highways and byways of Alabama and Florida. My only gripe is the dealer I bought it from , hid the body rust under the rear passenger door. It’s just falling apart. Mine was body style before Ford shifted to the aluminum body.

My ‘16 3.5 Ecoboost (King Ranch) gets 25 mpg hwy under 70mph/18mpg city. And it flies when you step on it. I’m a Toyota guy but for the money nothing beats F-150

I have the ecoboost in my F-150 w/10 speed trans. No shifting problems. Obviously things like altitude, whether the road is level, wind, etc. can effect mileage, but I have gotten 22 out of my turbo 6. And the eco puts out way more torque than that 8. I'm regularly passing the 5.0 trucks with trailers in the canyons when pulling my trailer. As long as you do regular oil changes (5K miles and no more) with a good synthetic oil and a good filter, they'll run a long time.

Exactly. With boost, comes *routine* maintenance which a lot of people do not realize. Spark plugs every 20k if you’re not running 91, and oil changes every 3-5k and those ecoboost motors will go a very long ways.

I own a 2017 F-150 V-8 5.0. It has been perfect since I bought it. I have gotten over 20 mpg on some tanks since my commute to work has 45-55mph speed limits and only one stoplight.

Pretty consistently get 24 mpg on a 70 mile trip with a 5.3L Silverado with AFM. No lifter issues so far but very religiously change the oil with full synthetic 0-20. Put the RV on the hitch and it drops to 10. The 70 mile trip is over hilly terrain with a maximum speed of 55 mph, not 70mph highway speeds. At 70 mph we only see 20mpg.

When you want reliability, you must have a manual transmission. No need to replace a torque converter.

I actually get my best mileage on secondary highways in the 40-50mph range with my 2018 crew 5.0 10spd, around 21-23mpg. Any slower and its 14-15mpg. Any faster and its 18-20mpg. Like anything else, a light foot and cruise control are your friends, only more so in a pickup truck.

Sco tty, my 2002 f150 cruse stoped working. On the brake master cylinder is a electoral wire, pull it out and replace the thingy inside, $24 plug back in bingo it now works. Put all your fancy electronic games away, not needed.

My 2019 5 L 10 speed was a nice truck in a lot of ways but it definitely was not getting 19 miles per gallon this guy must have drove all highway or almost all Highway. Also, the 5 L V8 always make this whistle noise when accelerating at low rpm and then it would make a crackling rattling noise unless you used premium gas I think I was getting about 13 1/2 miles per gallon and that was with premium that was the only thing that made the rattle go away. Also, that 10 speed transmission would always gear hunt and it would always jump around gears I’m assuming to try to find the best gas mileage. I traded it in for a 2022 2.7 eco-boost. The eco-boost doesn’t make much noise but it’s undeniable that it accelerates a lot faster and smoother than the V8. My gas mileage is closer to 22 miles per gallon.

On their older ones they used the Ford 300 inline six with a manual transmission. Those wouldn’t have needed that much maintenance to be VERY reliable. Oil and fluid changes and a tune up now and then would be about all it would need.

F150s since 2016 or 17 have all aluminum bodies. There is no reason to 'rustproof' them. You've seen those white US postal mail trucks that have been around almost forever? None of them are rusted, and they also have, ta-daa, all aluminum bodies. The newest of them was last made in 1988.

I have a 2020 Subaru Imprezza Hatchback. When I start the car it jumps to 2 rpm with the temperature icon showing on the dashboard for about 10 minutes whether it is idling or I am driving the car. I was told that is not normal that when starting a vehicle in idle it should be 0 rpm to .50 rpm. What could be my car's problem?

Subarus are weird when you first start the car up the gauges do a complete sweep all the way over to the other end and then there's a blue icon showing the car is cold when it warms up it should dissipate they should have put a heat gauge there instead of that silly light but that's a Subaru for you

The Ecoboost engines are not fuel efficient. They are very tune friendly though. The mustang is 470hp and gets 20 mpg so v8 definitely not any worse. Toyota 4runner get like 15 mpg

Speaking of Iridium plugs, I bought them but my 2008 Versa is still running the factory plugs after 15 years, and we can't get the manifold off without melting it trying to torch the tragic bolts. SOO...have you used the cold-freeze method , those sprays? It's all I can think of that might work beyond drilling them out, which would likely melt the stupid plastic anyway. Love your work :)

It's only alive because the dealer had to replace the first transmission in the final month of our 10yr warranty :) WOOHoo! She balks once in a while while the transmission remembers what it is supposed to do, and she dumps too much load on the engine between 40kph-50kph getting up to cruzin speed, something I wish I could adjust, but everything is ECM of course. We have a running 15 year mileage chart, recorded each fill-up. Basically a flat line, for 15 years :)

10 speed automatics on ford's are double bladed swords. You get good mileage but if the timing isn't good out of the factory, you'll have problems within 70k miles on the transmission.
