Great video, Scotty. Have owned a 2003 Honda Pilot that we bought new in late 2002. Only has 110k miles, so low mileage. Is now on it's 3rd teenage boy driving it so it has not been babied. Only thing now is after 20 years, needing to replace a number of rubber parts...not really due to mileage, more due to time. Gives my boys and I something to do on the occasional weekend. Has been an extremely reliable vehicle for 20 years now.

Sorry but purchasing a 294k mile vehicle is crazy. No engineering can defeat basic wear, time, or environmental factors. At 294k it’s not even just about the engine and transmission anymore, everything from the drive shaft to the frame will likely have significant wear.

The Honda Pilot is insanely reliable and can go a 500K miles plus, if you keep up with the maintenance. We have a 2011 Honda Pilot with 280k miles on the OD. It has the original transmission in it with no issues at all. The key to trans longevity is changing the transmission fluid every 50K… and the engine burns no oil between intervals.

I’m convinced my 2018 RAV4 will never die. I bought it from Avis in 2021 and have since put 43,000 miles on it. In that time I’ve blown up my alternator, killed my fuel pump, had the battery weld itself to the hood, and blew the EFI main fuse. Every single time I had an issue minus the fuel pump the car started right up with minor field repair. I’ve put this car through hell as a rally car and have taken it to the hardest roads you can drive in Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, and California. It’s seen most of the US and with all the work I put into it I’m hoping I can get it to see the world.

Have a 2007 4Runner SR5 V6 I bought in 2019 that had 220k miles on it. Have 256k miles on it now and still going pretty solid. It did need some things in the first year or so of ownership, new power steering rack, radiator and brakes, but most of that's expected. Feel like it has less interior rattles than a lot of newer cars which is sad. Honestly I don't think it rides that badly either. I decided on a V6 rather than V8 since the V6 has a timing chain, but maybe a V8 wouldn't been a tad better if I wanted to tow more. I undercoated the frame and subframe areas with POR15 to help it last longer/keep surface rust off. Planning to keep it until either the engine or transmission goes.

We had a 1999 Toyota 4 runner 2 wheel drive, 4 cylinder and 5 speed manual transmission. We pulled a 2,000 lb tent trailer from southern california across arizona, new mexico, to colorado and into Utah. We even went up very steep roads sometimes at 25 mph. Pulling even that 1 ton trailer we got under 15 mpg. This smaller suv did the job pulling that trailer over 3,000 miles that trip. On flat interstates it can pull that trailer at near or over 70 mph. We sold our 1999 4 runner with near 200,000 miles for near $5,000 in the year 2018 for a nearly 20 year old vehicle. We had no problem selling our 4 runner for $5K. Without the trailer it got near 25 mpg and could cruse at 80 mph no problems. The better mileage was a speeds closer to 70 mph. The 4 runner had great ground clearance with lots of room in the back with the seat folded down. Incredible as it sounds we now have a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan that will pull that 1 ton tent trailer even at 70 mph and gets near or over 20 mpg. The Grand Caravan has in incredible engine and drive train. It is an amazing vehicle. In the years near 2013 Dodge redesigned their 6 cylinder engine done by Domler Mercedes with the transmission.

@KaliAndy2
@KaliAndy2 Жыл бұрын
@@peterjanosik3601 big part of that is cost maintaining a car. $80k cars parts and labor will be a lot more expensive than 25k car. Old cars regardless how reliable they are will need maintenance. If you buy a car with 150k miles stuff like alternator, fuel pumps etc will need to be replaced at some point. Alternator for cheaper car might be $80 for parts and easy to replace. For luxury car it might be $500+ plus labor. People who buy old cars are generally tight on money and can't afford expensive upkeep of a luxury car. And people who buy luxury cars generally have money and don't want to buy an old one.

@@KaliAndy2 I think we do not understand each other. The problem is that German car makers are cashing in on the pool of people that understand the necessity of unnecessary engineering (and car logo). You name it it's been replaced. New paint soon. Then I will register it. It's been a great project. I will have an almost new truck to travel the country. A new 1 is almost $80,000.00. Who cares about mileage. It's paid for. In the future I think your going to see lots of people do what I'm doing. I've had several people wanting to buy it. No way. Have fun.
