Thx for the tips, Scotty @scottykilmer! I have a 2005 Hyundai ACCENT 2 LC (European model) and the engine (G4EA model) runs so buttery smooth... It's true that I take care every year of it *especially last 3-4 years* - changing the oil regularly every 7000-10000 kilometers, never over rev , but having less electronics on it spared me of these kind of problems including short-circuiting electronic components. Some problems with the bushings of the suspension and suspension arms, but this is due to road conditions when I go to my mum, on damaged paved roads, so no manufacturer's fault (and I presume this is not a serious problem, as I inspect my car regularly, but just saying these are the only things that make me break the piggy bank and repair it). Greetings!

We had a 1987 Hyundai while I was in the military. We put 375,000 mile on it and Hyundai gave us $5000 towards another Hyundai if we would give them the car. All we did is follow the written maintenance schedule and really had no issues.

I bought a 2013 manual transmission Elantra in 2013. No issues of any kind yet with the exception of replacing the steering coupler at 95K miles , under warranty, of course. The car now has just over 100K miles and still runs like it did on day one. Paint still in excellent condition. Only things I wish for is that it had a few more horse power, but then again , I knew what I was getting into when I bought it, so it's all good. I average 33-34 miles per gallon in city/hwy driving combined .

I rented an '07 Elantra for a trip to Cali and the little beastie was great! On the way back (400 mile one way) I saw a trio of cars speed by me and I joined them. We traveled at 100mph for over 100 miles without incident. When I got back, I checked the gas usage and it was right at 33mpg, despite the high-speed transit in the middle. The car had plenty of power (surprised me as a retired mechanic) and hummed right along. That Elantra impressed the hell out of me. Question: How are the 2.5L GDI-MPI engines for reliability? My mom has a 2014 Tuscon Limited with the 2.4L engine and about 117K miles. I know A LOT of those engines burn oil like mad and have been recalled. I think most of them were built in the Alabama plant. Hers was made in Korea. I did discover it started burning oil at like 113K, so I just made sure it was topped up. We had it serviced at 115K after noticing some smoke from the engine bay and found that the valve cover gasket went bad and so did the PCV valve. 2K later not a drop of oil was lost. The Koreans do a better job building them than we do apparently. 😕

2k for a valve cover gasket and PCV valve?! Wow sorry but u got ripped by that place! A valve cover cost $25 or less and a PCV valve is $30 or less.. and it’s only 1 hour of labor. And u have to disconnect the PCV valve to remove the gasket anyways so both can be done simultaneously. That garage charged you for two separate jobs. So if the book says the PCV valve takes an hour, he charge you for an hour, and if the box says the valve gasket is two hours, he charged you for a total of 3-4 hours labor. When really, it was all done in one hour because you can’t do one without getting to the other part anyways.

Hey Scotty, my sister bought a 1994 Accent new, put 120000 miles on it, then bought another one new in 2001. She sold me the old one for $750. My wife used it, and we kept up the maintenance. Then, in 2005, she went to Louisiana to help with hurricane Katrina relief crews. She was QC'ing the blue roofs, inspecting them and reported the results to FEMA. One day she was going to a location , and a tornano picked her & the car off of the road, spun it around and blew it into a full size Chevy pickup and T-boned it into midway between the front and rear doors. It had 150-something thousand miles and was still running great till this happened. It set off the driver side air bag, and my wife thought the car was on fire, so she jumped out and ran like you know what. The transmission would no longer go into reverse, so I had to get another car asap so she could still work and get paid. So I went to a few dealers and found a Saturn, 2003 model with 65000 miles, and had it certified by my mechanic, bought it for $3400 cash, and drove it that night to Louisiana. Drove the damaged one back to Dallas and gave it to my mechanic for parts as he has always been honest with me for 20 years. He got a lot of good parts from it that he actually installed, like new brakes & rotors & drums, radiator, fuel pump, tires, and I am glad I could help him out.

I asked her why and she said because the manufacturer recommended it and she didn’t want to pay 1200$ for a 30$ part lol. I walked her through the process after she pulled out the fuel pump! Apart from that, the car is perfect. Paint is perfect, as it has alway been garaged and sits in a underground car park at work. Every single thing on the car works perfectly. Engine runs perfectly (is serviced every 12 months, or 15 000km) I still have a original tyre on the right hand rear, which is still perfectly road legal (although when i got the fronts changed a week ago, they recommeneded replacing this tyre in near future, due to the age of it). (About 6km/day...i live 5mins from my workplace) i still can not fault the car. Still has its original rear tyre from the factory, as i said above. Still has legal tread, but is due for replacement, purely due to the age. I will get done soon. So the original tyre without being rotated from the rear, has lasted 52 000km. Paint is also perfect, from being garaged, and being parked in a underground car park at work. They are not bad cars. I feel maybe the american ones are worse?

My daughter had a 2012 Hydundai Elantra that had to have it's motor replaced at 43,000. Also had to have work done to the steering system that has a 2 dollar part that requires lots of dash and steering parts to be removed from car to replace when the car was 5 years old. I felt that hyundai is getting close to having a good car but needs to FOCUS on the drive train and critical systems design and systems integration.

I drive 2020 Elantra preferred with sun & safety model (Canada). I bought it in October 2020 so its been 3 years. Until now, i faced three issues. First was that steering made rubbing noise (at 60k kms) while turning. Second was engine ticking noise started at around 70k kms due to which the agency installed new engine. So, both issues were fixed by the agency. The concern was why it happened even after i did all the oil changes and services on proper time and your video gave me clarification. The last issue was the front speakers blown even I dont play loud music or heavy bass. I am currently at 85k kms and its running ok.

The only issue I had was for years the AC not being cold when the car isn't moving at high speed, then eventually it just stopped being cold completely. Left it as is, didn't bother getting it fix. Hello, I currently own a Hyundai Creta 2018 (ix25) model and have it here in Mexico City. Has the 4 cylinder 1.6L petrol engine, 6-speed manual transmision. 62k Kms. very good vehicle and reliable because of the transmissión, NO GDI, TURBO NOR 3-5 cylinder-odd numbered. Has worked fine and gives around 15 km/L. I only put it with 0-30W full synthetic oil every 12-15k Kms intervals. Even I took it for 20k with the same oil (got dirty), but will not risk to that point. Hyundai poured in 1 L to transmission when it has a 9 litre capacity, and had to change it. I guess they want your tranny to get ruined prematurely with the obsolesecence regime. Also cylinder #1 had an uneven wear of the spark plug compared to the other 3 and had to change the cores. Now it it working fine.

In 2009 I bought a Hyundai Accent 2001 model (Greece) and I was the third owner. The car was poorly maintained by the previous owners so I had to put a lot of money to repair it. However, once its repairs was done, the car still runs smoothly without any problems. Of course, regular maintenance from my side is necessary but compared to many other car brands, Hyundai is the cheapest to maintain and once maintained properly, no unexpected problems will arise. If you're looking for crappy cars, how about checking the EU brands, especially the Italian ones.

Daily use with heavy loads and had no major issues except for those parts that needed to be changed due to age (alternator, radiator, and basic consumables like tires, brakes, fluids). My sister also owns a 2016 Accent for 3 years now and have 0 issues so far. Preventive maintenance is key for a car to last long. I also think the engine problems associated with the brand are isolated in the US because I've seen many Hyundai/Kia cars here in our country with no issues even with high mileage.

Uber driver around here. Since I arrived to this country in 2015, I have had Kia Rio 2014, Kia Optima 2016, now Hyundai Sonata 2020, and they are not perfect cars, but they are easy to fix for me without being a mechanic and the original parts can be found wherever you want on the internet 50-70% less than the dealership. These Koreans lie when they say that these cars need regular gasoline, you have to put premium gasoline in them otherwise the engine knocking start. What no one tells you if you don't read the manual is that you have to change the transmission fluid at 60k otherwise you want it to get damaged and lose the 100k/10 year warranty. It burns engine oil but I'm not worried because it always reaches the lower limit when it's time to change the oil after 4000 miles. I put 150k to 200k on all of these cars in 2-3 years before leaving it to a family member to drive until the end of their days. So far the problems I have had the most have been in the 2020 Sonata, with the EGR I have changed it twice in 3 and a half years, a damaged injector that is all it now has 150k miles and drives like new, but I do every maintenance when it's his turn without skimping, I do it myself with original parts and the clients when they get into the car they ask me if it's new because it drives like new without noises or vibrations or rattles nothing at all, in fact a client offered to buy it but I said that my wife already wants it for herself. For the price of $30,000 in 2020 I got, panoramic sunroof, leather seats, digital cluster, Bose 12 speaker, navigation, heated seat, all the safety pack, see what you can buy in the Toyota with $30,000, the most expensive Corolla ( and it's smaller with a CVT) it doesn't have a leather seat or even half of the things they give me for this car and it costs $28,000. Nothing in life is perfect but you have to take care of them and give them a lot of love so that they last much longer.

I can't say this video is wrong. But nor can I say that it's right. What once was true is not always true. And what this video proposes is true of all vehicles. I've also had to have the brakes done twice, because if you don't use them enough they seem to seize up. In comparison I had 280 000 km on my previous 2016 Tacoma and didn't have to change brakes until 205k. I now have a Rav4 Hybrid. Only Toyota's from now on. We'll see how long the ioniq lasts. Great video as always. I had a brand new 2000 Hyundai tiburon. I traded in a super reliable Nissan hard body pickup that I purchased new and drove for 3 years without any problems ever. The dealer had to jump start the Hyundai because it had been sitting too long. I was 26 and apparently stupid so I believed him. The lemonlaw states you have to have the same problem 3 times to have the dealer buy it back from you. In the 1.5 years I had it it broke down twice on the road and had to be towed. The 1st time I was doing 40mph and the car was losing speed and I had to keep downshifting. I came to a red light and while sitting there I could see the engine shaking. I was no longer able to go any faster than 2nd gear and pulled over. The mechanic told me "I've never seen this happen so quickly before. " The leather steering wheel was cracking and peeling, the dash would warp in the Arizona heat. No other vehicle new or old, that i have anywhere including Arizona has ever had this issue. The factory car alarm had to be re sodered and later replaced. At 80mph the screw holding the drivers visor clip fell out. And the worst problem with the car was the power rack and pinion would loosen as you drove it. The owners manual stated it required adjustment every 7000 miles. I never dared drive it that long between service visits because the steering got really scary! I traded out of it for a brand new Chevy s10 v6 pickup and didn't even care that I was upside down on a loan. If you are financing a brand new vehicle it should be dependable. I should have kept the Nissan pickup. I will NEVER buy a Kia, Hyundai, genesis or anything else made by them. My 2010 ford escape that I got with 137,000 miles (now 186,000 miles) has been so much more dependable then the Hyundai.

I also notice that mine doesn't burn oil like others do. At every oil change I measure the used and it's only slightly lower, put in 4.75L and about 4.6 comes out and that's most likely because of the oil filter and the engine. Sometimes eco mode will bug out if used with sport putting it in a sort of limp mode but hasn't happened since I had my car tuned.

Hyundai in the United States only ran from behind on the reliable rails that Japanese cars built hard. Most Americans who are not interested in cars can't distinguish between Japanese cars and Korean cars. That's what Korea is aiming for. South Korea just dismantled and imitated Japanese cars that have been selected materials for many years and developed by raising the level of processing technology. The fundamental ride comfort and the structural durability of the machine are the same as Japanese cars, so it will be better than American and European cars. However, engine making, painting technology, and material selection can not be seen by imitating, so there is a big difference from Japanese cars. Even if it is synthetic resin or plastic, if it has 20 years of durability in Japan, Korean cars will be 10 years. The safety standards are completely different.

Here in Australia, we have owned 4 Hyundais. No problems. Still running a 20 year old Getz and a (now) 1 year old Venue from new. Previously an IX35 Tucson and an Excel. All the Hyundais here are built in Korea. I wonder if some of the US built models have mainly had problems. 😀

2015 i30 1.8l MPI engine(sold as Elantra stateside) no issues- service them regularly and you'll be fine one thing I do differently is change oil every 6000km- oil is cheap engines arent. Koreans build them better- Australian Hyundais are Korean built

Hyundai's are regarded well here in the UK too, but think mine was built in India but still built well.

Every person I know who has owned a Hyundai says they bought it because of the longer warranty & cheaper price compared to other popular brands....South Korea has become a very rich country due to it's manufacturing & exporting of Hyundai/KIA/Daewoo cars

I have an 08 elantra with manual transmission. Only standard maintenance has been needed (and a couple recalls fixed but they never caused any issues). Still runs great, and doesn't burn oil.

Is great information, I personally think Hyundai is just a cheaper choice for people who doesn’t drive that much and they constantly check their cars, I personally have a 2019 Elantra, and all I had changed is stuff that goes bad over time like the thermostat and the brakes, other than that the car is great, I love the mpg I get about 36 driving normally. If you don’t want to worry about keeping an eye on your vehicle just get a Toyota, I had one myself and those are a whole different thing.

Have a 2012 Hyundai Sonota GLS. The engine blew up at 84K, but since the recall, the metal shavings in cylinders caused misfires, so they put a new engine in. My motor is still loud to this day even though it is basically new with only 50K miles.

I owned a couple of Elantras back in the day and had pretty good experiences with them. I look at a "good" Hyundai/Kia as a 10-year/100k miles vehicle. That is, if you take care of it you should get that much use out of it without major problems. After that, their bargain sticker price starts to show through and they start getting long in the tooth. There are exceptions, but that's a good general rule. Now, the newer ones? I wouldn't personally buy one. Especially any Hyundai with that bleeping _Theta II_ engine. There are too many better cars you can buy for not all that much more money that will last 200k+ miles if you take care of it.

Only 100k miles? Id say atleast to 150k with no problems should be the standard. I've had plenty of mazdas and Toyotas get to 200k no problem. I even have a 2017 cx9 with the turbo engine, and its been flawless with basic maintenance and going on 240k miles still strong.

One of my friends has a 2018 Sonata - engine seized at 68K miles. Lifetime warranty due to a lawsuit but still was in the shop for close a month and no word back on rental reimbursement. Ridiculous. Oh and it is uninsurable in several states due to high risk of being stolen.

Right on, Scotty! I owned a Veracruz right after they came out around 2014, and found it to be cheaply made, and there was no way that car was going to last half as long as a Toyota. I got rid of it after a few years, and learned my lesson about Korean cars.

I see. But, did you have any issues with the car? My girlfriend has a Kona. Granted she doesn't drive a lot with it. Still. Not a single issue as far as I know. It will always be something going wrong with all carsl models. I don't think Hyundai is the worst. Maybe Toyota is the best though 😊

@@ofusowre7620 I notice it by the cars around me, I never get to see the same Hyundai/Kia car models after a couple of years. Toyota Hilux, Fortuners, Innovas and Landcruisers that are like 2008-2015 are still around. I always see new Hyundai/Kia models this day, not a rusted one so far.

We own the elusive 2018 Kona. No problems to report. 60k miles so far. Although it does burn oil already. Our Accent's engine blew up at 97k miles and no dealer help afterwards.

I have had 5 Hyundai's. My first was a 2005 Elantra, next a 2008 Sonata, then a 2012 Accent, then a 2019 Tuscon, and now a 2023 Venue. These are by far the best cars I've owned.

This video is on point with Hyundai along with Kia. I had a 2014 Kia Optima with the 2.4 GDI engine I had purchased with 60,000 on it. Had the car for 12 months and the engine blew with 86,000 miles. I was extremely lucky that the engine was replaced with a 120,000-mile warranty under the recall. Kia issued another recall for the knock sensor update. Now Kia offers a lifetime warranty on the engine. We still have the car. However, value has depreciated due to the Kia Boy challenge on how easy is it to steal a Hyundai/Kia vehicles.
