This was *the* comprehensive overview of the unveiling event I've been looking for, as well as great industry info on what the Scout Motors company has done so far. You are excellent at videos like this! Do you have any thoughts on how the rear motor (from a dual motor setup) will work with a solid rear axle? As far as I know that hasn't been done before.

We greatly appreciate your kind words. This was one of the more tedious productions we've attempted recently and it means a lot to know that the effort has paid off for you. We hope you'll share the link to it online so others can find it. As for the rear axle, we have not been made privy to those technical details yet. We hope this video will be seen by Scout and that it will help us to gain their respect in the form of greater access to technical developments as they get closer to market. It would be a privilege to produce a first look at the factory when they start production. -Producer Tim Another EV truck factory tour (which was actually somewhat impromptu) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWbXop-OmJekmtE

Electric with a gas generator is the only thing that really makes sense in the US market, and Scout keeping a heritage interior with real buttons instead of all touchscreens is a winner and why I put a deposit down. Can't wait to hear more about it in the coming years.

Scouts and 1st generation Broncos are two of my all-time favorite vehicles. I love what the relaunched Scout has done. My only concern is timing. They really need to get these vehicles on the road ahead of 2027! At around $50K with incentives, I'd definitely buy one. I've been involved with Edison Motors in building the world's first extended range EV semi-truck (heavy-duty vocational truck, not over-the-road like Tesla Semi, etc.). Edison's platform consists of a pure electric drivetrain with e-axles powered by batteries that are charged on the go via a 9L diesel turning a generator. This is similar to Scout's Harvester range extender. It makes all the sense in the world when public DC fast charging infrastructure isn't convenient, such as when going off-road. I read in response that this was one of your more challenging videos to produce. You did a wonderful job. Keep up the great work.

First, kudos for one of the best coverage of an EV automotive product launch I've seen. I think losing Deiss hurt this effort, but that it's turned out the best it could in spite of that. More legacy companies should be spinning off these efforts fast as they can. But instead, most are paring back...losing battles with UAW, dealers, suppliers and oil corporations. Then the EU and US put tariffs on the Chinese who are a decade ahead which only makes them lose more in the end. Scout is a beacon of hope for a path forward for these dying gas automakers.

Thanks for being detailed, and as far as those true scout enthusiasts, I don’t see how you wouldn’t want one. To own a scout again but with the option of different drivetrains, it’s what scout owners love about it. And to get one that you don’t have to rebuild from the ground up because of rust lol. I really appreciated the in-depth look at the history behind new Scout's corporate structure, the insights on key employees, and the perspective on a potential public offering. Much deeper than most of the videos that I have seen. I also appreciated the coverage of the economic development commitment from the state of SC and VW as well as the details of the deal structure. On a personal note, as a former Scout II owner from my teens and college days, it’s exciting to see the brand return in a way that honors its roots. The extender to reach 500 miles is an answer for today’s range limitations. The RAM REV will debut in a few months, so the concept of on-board generator to extend range will be old hat by 2027. The Silverado EV can exceed 450 miles and R1T 420 miles….today. Battery cost will be lower and range farther in two years. The sweet spot will be 500+ miles on battery alone.
@MissGoElectricIndustry

We covered the RAM when it showed last year. We also worked with BMW Iperformance on the US launch of the i3 with the same technology almost a decade ago. Would a hyper efficient low displacement gasoline generator be less expensive to build and operate compared to diesel? Would gasoline offer more refueling opportunities for buyers around the globe? -Producer Tim
@GregariousAntithesis
@GregariousAntithesis 15 күн бұрын
@ would a diesel generator require less environmentally unfriendly batteries and extend the range substantially. People are building hybrids backwards to many batteries. Do locomotives use batteries? No they use diesel engines to power huge generators that power the huge electric motors on the drive wheels. They are an example of rational hybrids not this insane amount of environmentally horrid and cost prohibitive expensive batteries. Hence why i said you should look into what Edison motors are doing with electric hybrids on semi tractors and pickup truck conversion kits. Supposedly Toyota is also working on something similar. You should be working to reduce the number of batteries which is exactly the opposite of what most hybrid manufacturers have done.
@MissGoElectricIndustry
@MissGoElectricIndustry 15 күн бұрын
My question was not related to battery size. I asked about the advantages of your preference for diesel VS the engineers decision to utilize gasoline. Our stance on this channel is that batteries are recyclable. They enable a circular domestic economy. They can be produced using abundant materials sourced and assembled in the USA. We prefer purely electric propulsion to any which integrates a combustion engine. That said, the energy density of today's batteries is not yet sufficient to replace combustion engines in every category of transportation. Automobiles with combustion engines are more complex. Thusly they are less reliable with shorter lifespans and higher operational costs. Gasoline and diesel dependence weakens the US geopolitically. Oil rigs, pipelines, and tankers leak and spill monthly, causing widespread environmental destruction. Gasoline is at least 10x more likely to cause incineration fatalities compared to automotive batteries. Combustion engines exhaust is a primary cause of cancer and asthma along for those who live or work near roadways. Fuel refinement is wasteful. It's transportation is wasteful. A very small percentage of the energy in a gallon of gasoline is covered to kinetic energy at the wheel. Even electric propulsion powered by the *minority* of our electrical grid which is fossil fuel driven is superior in every category listed above compared to combustion alternatives. -Producer Tim

Rivian recently invited us into their Plymouth, Michigan facility to have a close look at R2, R3X, and the zonal architecture hardware they've developed. During that meeting they assured us that Georgia is still the plan for Rivian R2 production when the factory Normal, IL is maxed out. We don't think the R3 platform will be a great candidate for body on frame manufacturing at the Scout facility...but we've been wrong before. We'll see if your suspicions are on point. We do think Rivian probably contribute more than only the zonal architecture and behind-the-scenes software. That user interface seemed very much like a re-skin of Rivian's GUI even though it is not IP which is publicly within the purview of the upcoming joint venture with VW. @@MissGoElectricIndustry I saw it, thanks! It’s hard to take that reference seriously; it’s part of “Stage 3”, and the sketch shows only a potentially smaller vehicle under a cover 😂. Call me skeptical, but with the current vehicle lineup not slated for production until 2027, I have my doubts about when we actually see a smaller vehicle. I can’t help thinking the market for a smaller vehicle is much larger, and under served. I’m sure they did the math and decided there are bigger margins (or smaller losses) on large units. While I’d like a more rugged option, I’ll probably just settle for a small Volvo or Kia by then 🤷‍♂️. Thanks for the excellent event coverage! Cheers.

Looks like VW and South Carolina have bet Big $ on this. They have shown a neat design, and thrown in a little PR bait with the gas generator*. Though 2027 may be a bit late, since the rest of the world is not waiting for them to start. After deliveries commence in a couple of years it will be interesting to see if they did a better job matching customers desires than the Ford F150 Lightning, which has now in paused production due to swelling inventory on dealers' lots due to poor sales. If, and when, Ford ever gets its dreamy "Blue Oval City" running, it could easily make a strong competitor with an electric Bronco or Maverick. In any case, good luck to VW, they'll need it. By the 2027, though, they could be building vehicles for their new wholly owned subsidiary, acquired for defaulting on loan payments, Rivian. 🤣 *which is a much more realistic and credible solution than plastering some solar cells on a Tricycle car 🙄.

Wow, is this the first EV to bring back the old analog needle speedometer? It looks so retro. There’s no need for a nuisance start/stop button so remove it in production units. Adding a gas engine range extender is the wrong approach. The proper way to add range is more batteries like Silverado. The primary reason for buying an EV is to avoid engines that pollute, require service, and visits to a gas station. I know this channel dislikes fossil fuel transportation.
@MissGoElectricIndustry
@MissGoElectricIndustry 27 күн бұрын
There is no *need* for most buttons, as evidenced by the minimalist design of the Tesla Model Y interior. That said, the audience cheered for buttons at this event. That indicates demand. If a feature generates more revenue than it costs, most executives would say the part is worth offering. The Model Y will probably remain the best selling car in the USA for a very long time and it will probably have the best profit margins. There must be EVs of every permutation in order to supplant internal combustion transportation. We are not fans of a gasoline engine, but we have conducted literally hundreds of thousands of test drives with car buyers in our work supporting EV auto makers. 500 miles is a magic range number for most drivers to consider an EV "worry free". Lucid has shown us that very free buyers are willing to pay $100k for that much range. We think a price of $55k and a range of 500 miles will increase the addressable market well beyond Scout's production capabilities. For now, the only way to meet the range and price target with an electric perfect is by harnessing a lower cost and higher density energy storage solution like gasoline to charge the batteries. By 2027 we think there will be a few companies offering batteries which will get closer to competing on range and cost. By 2030, we presume the manufacturing and operational costs associated with combustion range extenders will no longer be attractive for most applications. You are entirely misinformed on every claim. Corrections: 1) gasoline and combustion vehicles are more heavily subsidized than electric vehicles 2) gasoline powered automobiles are 30x more likely to catch fire and 60x more likely to incinerate occupants 3) electricity is 100x more readily available than gasoline in the United States. An EV can charge on as any outlet from any building or light post. Getting stranded is far more likely in a gasoline powered vehicle. 4) all EV batteries are warrantied by law for at least eight years and 100,000 miles. In 16 states they are warrantied for 10 years and 150,000 miles by law. Today's EV batteries will have a service life of 20-40 years before they are recycled. Today's EVs will go 300,000-400,000 miles before being decommissioned. That is twice the service life of a typical combustion posted passenger vehicle. 5)The cost of a replacement battery for a 10 year old out-of-warranty Nissan LEAF EV is about $5,000...not $30,000 as you've claimed.
