Thanks for the awesome review man, we had a bunch of marines who had these packs on the boat i was attached to a little while ago. They say they love this pack, just to be sure that i was making a good purchase I wanted to see what the youtube community thought. Let me just say that your review was by far one of the best I have seen on the pack, most informative and I would just like to again say thanks man.

Excellent review, I just purchased the Army Molle 2 in Woodland and I love it, but I didn't even consider this system and I should have. Now because of you, Lol I will need this system ASAP. Thanks!

That hydration pouch is, in fact, a Camelbak unit. I have two of them -- one in ACU, and one in Coyote -- and the only difference between the ones I have and that one is the brand label on the outside. Great system -- great review!

If you can find just the FILBE main pack, the old ALICE frame works just fine. That's how I set mine up, it works great and it's on the cheap.

What's best for putting the camelbak on is sticking it in the starboard side of the pack in the side pouch of the main pack and securing it with the straps. Then, clip the tube to your sternum strap and you can drink while walking.

I found the DEI 1606 AC (Alice Compatible) frame for $21.00. I put on my Large OD ALICE ruck and MOLLE Woodland belt and straps. It works great! Much more comfortable than the ALICE frame especially for those who need a longer torso length frame to get the belt on their waist and not in their lumbar.

Hey Scout Prepper, big fan of the videos. Would you recommend this pack for Philmont, considering you have been on the trip?
@ScoutPrepper9 жыл бұрын
Comrade Storey Well I'm glad you like the videos. I definitely hiked Philmont back in the day. This pack is definitely durable enough for the trek, but it is a little on the heavy side. You can find lighter packs for the money that the FILBE cost. You won't save a ton of weight, but every pound counts when you are on the trail for 2 weeks. So I guess to answer the question "yes" but it is a little heavy.

Great review. Thank you. Question: how does this interface with a battle belt?
@stoopidkat10 жыл бұрын
Oops. I said "interface" when I meant, "integrate."
@ScoutPrepper10 жыл бұрын
stoopidkat You could use a battle belt, but it could and probably would interfere with the main pack's hip belt. Or, I guess you could put some of the belt gear on the actual pack but then you wouldn't have it if you took the pack off. That's actually an interesting idea, so I will start playing with it and see if I can work out a battle belt system with the FILBE.

How much does just the FILBE main rucksack weigh? My ILBE weights nearly 10lbs for just the pack. And I find that's the main problem with mil-surp: HEAVY.
@ScoutPrepper10 жыл бұрын
From what I can tell, the main pack weighs 5lbs without the extra pouches attached. Military gear is always a little heavy, but it is normally VERY durable.

These packs do not come in multicam. The Assault pack doesn't fit to the front of the pack. It fits on top to the lid of the pack. Multicam packs? See the Army not USMC.....
@wildfire5357510 жыл бұрын
Kelty was the main "design" contractor the USMC used, the pack is based off of the coyote pack by kelty "that's way you like it". The USMC holds all rights to the pack, by the way your missing two bags "corpsmen pack, utility pouch". Why Kelty? after all the testing of civilian pack models by USMC kelty was the best at weight management, configuration and durability. Then came the molly and other pouches. Keep in mind USMC research & invent this stuff because they aren't happy then everybody else wants it. Semper fi
@ScoutPrepper10 жыл бұрын
wildfire53575 OK good info. I knew that Kelty, Mystery Ranch, and Eagle had all worked on the design but didn't know that Kelty was the main contractor. I have the corpsman pack it is just it's own video. I also have the utility pouch and I thought it was in the video but maybe not. It's on the corpsman pack right now as a matter or fact. Thanks for the info.
@ho99style9 жыл бұрын
wildfire53575 kelty aint got shit to do with this design. It was designed by eagle ind., and they brought in Mystery ranch to advise on a few things. I wouldn't be surprised if the contracting changed some, but Eagle Ind was the "MAIN" designer.
@wildfire535759 жыл бұрын
You may be right, point taken. That said it was announced USMC contracts with Kelty in many news firms along with a military publication. The pack is based totally on the [redcloud 5000 st] that was dis-continued and the coyote model took its place. Eagle is a military contractor; Its a Kelty design purchases for military use, with Mystery ranch enhancements. Not that strange for this to happen Eagle is just "administration". The Main foundation "pack" kelty, other attachments mystery ranch. I have a red cloud in my closet its identical minis the molly. The coyote is the same in size but missing features of the red cloud that made it popular. Its kind of funny really I believe one of the founders or designer for mystery ranch worked for kelty, there is a tie there some place. I read it in a review of a mystery ranch pack "can't remember with one".

In my opinion, ILBE was far more sophisticated pack system(except the crappy assault pack) than FILBE. USMC moved on to FILBE cause they were on short budget, didnt wanna spend $600 for each ILBE.. To me, ILBE has been the most comfortable heavy loading pack I've ever used. everybody has different preference I should say..only thing I hated about ILBE was the assault pack which has horribly uncomfortable shoulder straps.. Overall FILBE is more superior than ILBE, the water resistant-heavy duty nylon material, zippers with urethane coating, duraflex buckles...especially the hydration carrier(which is Camelbak Ambush) and the assault pack look far more upgraded than ILBE. But just on the main packs, the internal framed ILBE is much more comfortable than the FILBE main pack with the external frame..u can load your gears tall and slim in the ILBE main pack.. most outdoor packs are designed after that philosophy-tall and slim top loading like building a tower. FILBE main pack is too wide and bulky. And its got shorter frame which is not helpful in the long run.. External frame packs are cheaper and easier for mass production so the corp liked it..
